  1. The center IP stack is terrible. It looks like a single DIN stacked on a double DIN with Nav screen topping. The right side of the dash was stolen out of an XJ, the steering wheel was stolen out of your daughters Celica. About the only interesting thing about this dash is the instrument pods, but everyone is doing that tunnel effect now and in this case it doesn't even fit with the rest of this dash/car.
  2. You know, I read that this morning and thought nothing of it. It took me till 5pm today to get it.
  3. I think we need to now label this thread NSFW.
  4. From my personal experience, I love this service. I have two Civic hybrids parked outside the building I work in downtown. A minicooper, solara convertible and Tacoma are just 3 blocks walk. I use the Civics 4-8 times a month for about 2 hours each trip. I've taken the Mini out once, you may have read my review on that. From a car enthusiast's perspective this can also be a good thing. Even in Pittsburgh with our fairly craptastic public transit system, it is realistically possible to now live in the suburbs without owning a car. How that's a good thing for car enthusiasts is this. Now you don't need a daily driver in addition to your "baby" in the garage. Once loan/insurance/maintenance payments are freed up from the daily driver, that is more money that can be put towards your collectible. Also, if your collectible is having one of those weeks where it just doesn't want to run right, you're not stranded at home with no transportation. For me being a skier, I can take the bus over and grab a Subaru Impreza wagon and spin down to the slopes for an evening of night skiing. You have the choice of any kind of car to suit your needs. It also travels with you when you travel. I can go to DC or Boston or Philly and have a car if I need one on the spot. No more Enterprise rentals. Flexcar greatly underestimated the demand for such a service here in Pittsburgh. They started here almost reluctantly after the city offered them parking spaces and some long term usage contracts. Now, they are adding cars all over the city... 2-4 a week by my observations. Neither company uses many domestic vehicles, but the variety is such that I can't get too upset about it. I hope with this merger the car sharing system continues to grow nationwide.
  5. Linkity BOSTON - Zipcar is acquiring rival car-sharing service Flexcar in a bid to head off emerging competition from traditional rental car firms that have been adding outlets in urban neighborhoods.... Zipcar, based in Cambridge, Mass., offers 3,500 cars in more than 35 markets in the United States, Europe and Canada — most of them U.S. college campuses — and has more than 120,000 members. Washington D.C.-based Flexcar is smaller, with about 1,500 cars in 15 U.S. markets and 50,000 members. Zipcar has managed to turn profits in major cities where it's been operating a couple years or more. The costs of acquiring cars and parking spots as well as signing up members make new markets initially unprofitable.
  6. Thanks guys... and Knightfan... I hope not. :AH-HA_wink:
  7. See? We can agree sometimes. :AH-HA_wink:
  8. The bolded statement is the most important. Look at the responses just on C&G much less Autoblog or Edmunds to the Malibu, CTS, GMT-900 and Lambda reviews. Doesn't have Nav Doesn't out accelerate the 3-series Can't compete with the 5-series because it's priced less <wtf?> GM used pushrods They don't have a 6-speed yet Isn't a mid-sized SUV It's too heavy Isn't a minivan These new cars are some of the stars of GM's lineup and are at or biting the heals of the top in their respective classes.... yet all we hear is bitching about how tiny things that will NEVER effect sales are signs of "what is so wrong at GM" and have expectations set on them that aren't set on the competition.
  9. I do agree the Malibu is a great car. I also agree that the bitching about the previous Malibu and even the Aura has helped this car. What I was pointing out was that people bitching about there not being a NAV will have about as much difference on the sales and sucess of the car as people bitching about the iPod not having a user replaceable battery has for the iPod. I've said it before and I'll say it again, GM could come out with a fully function model of Christ himself and people would bitch that the water to wine function only dispenses Merlot.
  10. get the carb adjusted, seriously. You do know how to start an 80's carburrated car, right?
  11. A true GTO is your grandmother's tempest with a big engine and nicer upholstery.
  12. fixed
  13. It's easy to tell the faster/better car. It has the blue and white propeller thingy on the hood.
  14. OMG, the 3-series would soooo out handle God.
  15. I think both Saturn and Buick should have a lineup where every vehicle has a hybrid version. Saturn would cater to the lower end of the scale and Buick could cater to those who still like a bit of ostentatiousness. Besides, Buick has the perfect trim line name, Electra.
  16. If Apple has listened to the consumer, the iPod would have a user replaceable battery, music bought in iTunes wouldn't have DRM, and Leopard would run on a Dell, and the iPhone would be able to be used on any GSM network. Sometimes products sell well just because they are crowned "The Best" by the media.
  17. this thread has gone :gay: in just one page.
  18. From SMK From edmunds From SMK What he means to say is that an AWD CTS is heavier than a RWD 535i. An AWD 535ix is only 60lbs. lighter than the CTS. How is that not obese also? From SMK I don't know if these numbers are just made up or what. The 0-60s are wrong for both, the skidpad is wrong for both the CTS did better, the slalom is wrong for both, the weight balance is wrong on the CTS. From SMK: again, quite simply wrong
  19. You are correct. There was nothing personal, nothing offensive, and nothing controversial. However, continuously posting incorrect information has gotten people banned before. OMG! SMK has been SHELVED!
  20. I'd go as far as to say that the CTS is NOT Cadillac's entry level car. It's just Cadillac's least expensive car in an incomplete lineup.
  21. It's not dissent when someone consistently and persistently posts incorrect information and invalid comparisons. If I came on here ranting about how a Subaru Legacy couldn't out handle or out accelerate a Mini-Cooper S constantly and calling the Legacy junk for it, I'd get banned. Classing cars based on just price is stupid. stupid stupid stupid. The TSX, Lucerne, 300c, GS, ES, RL all fall into this price class as well. Do we *really* need a comparison between Lucerne and the 3-series just to prove that, yes Virginia, the smaller car will out handle the larger car, with threads upon threads about how GM needs to fix this or fix that so they could possibly outsell the 3-series with a Lucerne? It's flat out NOT dissent. It's trolling.
  22. Or we could take away the ban on pebble bed nuclear reactors put in place by the Carter Administration to reduce the chance of nuclear proliferation. The pebble bed reactors that Westinghouse is developing for China could be used here. The some nice things about pebble bed reactors is they have an inherent, natural, safety system so that if there is a catastrophic loss of coolant, the reactor goes into idle mode. This happens without any human interaction at all. Secondly, the nuclear fuel is recyclable. They don't use water as a coolant so there is no need to locate them near rivers. They use helium as a coolant which is about the most benign element there is. It doesn't pick up radioactivity like most other elements do... so if the coolant escapes, it's not a health hazard. Then we could replace all those dirty coal plants.
  23. because hydrogen is not a fuel source.
  24. Indeed, $10,000 does put the 5-er in a different price class... however it still has exactly the same equipment and size as the $10k cheaper yet equally appointed and capable CTS. Tell me, what about a $10,000 more expensive 5er with the same equipment makes it worth $10,000 more? Oh... right.... Definately worth 10k
  25. Didn't you know? Anything can be called a coupe now. Fly's Aurora was one of the first modern 4-door coupes
