  1. No, I'd call it a modern evolution of a classic subcompact..
  2. I would do it...sounds better than 'Junior'...
  3. I still prefer the interior and exterior design of the 2nd gen to the 3rd gen. I've sat in several 3rd gen GCs and think the design and materials of the 2nd are nicer..but I'm biased since I drive my '00 nearly every day..
  4. The Commander is going away, good riddance..it's ugly, and not big enough inside for a 7-seater..leave the 7-seaters to the Durango and Aspen.
  5. Unfortunately, the CTS is a 4dr (this was a coupe comparison). Still, I'm looking forward to seeing the inevitable G35, 3-series sedan, CTS, IS350, and new C-class comparisons...
  6. I'm glad Jeep is sticking with it's proven uniframe architecture... I've always liked how GCs drive..they are quite capable offroad yet drive like a car, with none of the obesity or clunkiness of a truck.. I think the market for truck-based BOF SUVs smaller than full size is going to pretty much die out.. the next Explorer is also supposedly going to be unibody. Makes sense, most people don't do a lot of hauling with midsize and smaller SUVs, and the unibody ones drive much nicer than the truck-based ones... Remember, an SUV (except for Jeeps, Land Rovers, Hummers, etc, which have that offroad 4x4 history) is fundamentally a wagon with more ground clearance...so the crossover/car based approach makes more sense than a truck-based approach for the vast majority of consumers...
  7. True... 'symmetrical' and 'asymmetrical' are probably the wrong words here...but some dashes are virtually identical on the left and right side, except that the left has the wheel and IP and the right has a glove box and airbag with the center stack in the middle...i.e. designed for LHD and RHD, while other designs (like past BMWs) are distinctly different from one side to the other..
  8. Yes, I assume Gen 4 be still be 'uniframe' (unitized body w/ welded on frame) construction as Gens 1-3. I'm assuming the Chrysler and Dodge versions will have a longer wheelbase for a 3rd row of seats... I just hope the GC doesn't get any larger..I've always liked it's relatively compact size..
  9. This is probably straight from nongoingtohappen.com. Some scam job run by a smooth talker...will never happen..
  10. I like asymmetry... symmetrical dashes have been way overdone in the last decade, IMHO...my favorite BMW interiors (E36,E39,E46) have all been asymmetrical...
  11. Heh-heh...spoken or sung German always sounds angry to me, like Klingon. There are some Germans in my office (the company I'm contracting at now has a Frankfort office, and several of the people from there work here in Denver) and they always sound angry to me. Though nothing like a loud Romanian...my last company had this guy who was Romanian, talked loud all the time with a thick accent..and would be on the phone w/ his wife all the time talking loudly in Romanian (he had the Sex & The City theme as his cell ring tone, which was hilarious--he was a 50-something frumpy guy that always wore the same cardigan, thick rimmed glasses, etc), always seemed like he was yelling. The wierd thing is, at my new place, over in the next cube aisle from me is a guy that strangely sounds the same..has an unpronounceable eastern European name..
  12. I guess no more 'German heritage' ads with Dr Z, eh?
  13. I have friends in Baltimore..been there once for a conference..seemed like a pretty nice area. I like living in the west, but think I'd like to try the east coast at some point, for a change of scenery, career options, etc.
  14. The Smarts sold here by Zap cars retailed for $25k...I doubt if the ones imported by DC will really be $12k.
  15. I'd rather have the S-class..I'd rather have a 4500lb commuter car than a sub-2000lb commuter car..
  16. Yeah, I don't mind the humidity (lived in Ohio, Illinois, Michigan and the Florida Keys). Sometimes I speculate on what other parts of the country I would be happy in..just kind of 'what if' scenarios (I've thought of moving to Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, San Diego, San Jose, etc.) I like the Denver/Boulder area---lots of tech jobs, lots of highly educated professionals... I'm a liberal and an atheist, therefore have a fairly low tolerance of red state/heavily religious areas (Colorado Springs 50 miles away from me seems like it is straight out of the Bible Belt)... and the mild climate (dry, lots of sunshine) is a plus.. Maryland seems more like part of the NE to me than the south, since it borders PA and DE... Critieria for me as far as a good place to live include having a major airport (hub for at least 2 airlines, international service) within a 30 minute drive, lots of the basic amenities within 15 minutes (Target, Best Buy, Borders, Starbucks, Chipotle, a good bagel place, major grocery chains, etc), a technical bookstore, computer stores (Frys Electronics, Microcenter, or local equivalent), plenty of software companies and IT shops (with six figure jobs--I have that in Denver), diverse dining options (plenty of Indian, Thai, Chinese, etc restaurants), good local microbrews, a thriving downtown nearby, BMW dealers, Jeep dealers, i.e. basically suburbia in a major metro area is where I'm at home. Having fun places to drive nearby (mountains, hilly areas) is a plus, as is the ocean.
  17. I could never live there...Va is part of the Bible Belt and the South, can't do either.. Maryland, though, could work (there a ton of tech jobs in the DC metro area).. don't know if I could adjust to the climate, though..
  18. Strange that Subaru is so behind... of course, the previous WRX was painfully ugly, the new one still is also, now with a hatchback version...
  19. As the article says "Youth love hybrids," ...maybe they can come up with a Prius Junior model for the kiddies...
  20. Hilarious..the tc is a just a cheap econobox..nothing special.
  21. The hobby has been dying out for the last two decades or so.. I know virtually no one my age IRL that builds models besides myself..it's mostly older (40s, 50s, 60s) men. I've been building since childhood in the late '70s, probably have about 1500 unbuilt 1:24/1:25 scale kits, and 300 that I've built. Kids today just aren't into a sedentary, tactile hobby like building models..they have way more sports, video games, etc...
  22. The mid-engined Corvette idea has been talked about since the early '70s..the idea of a Corvette brand (like Porsche or Ferrari, w/ multiple models) has been talked about since the late '80s.. . nothing new here.
  23. Pretty harsh law.. I'm used to the 75mph limits here, even then, in heavy traffic, it's 80 or more in dry, clear weather...(4 lane freeway, clogged with commuters up and down the Front Range).. in the metro areas, it's 55 or 65 (6- or 8- lanes), though at rush hour it's more like 20..
  24. I would assume so...and the Miata/MX-5 has been through 3 generations over 17 years...
  25. Smarts have been sold in some areas in the US for a couple of years now, imported by ZapCars (which has since moved on to importing tiny Chinese electric cars since DC is now going to be officially bringing the Smart).
