  1. Cool...very clean for it's age...my Dad drove a shortbed fleetside '81 with the 6cyl (green w/ white bumpers) when he was working for Habitat for Humanity after he retired.
  2. What's wrong with the tires? Goodyear Eagle F1s.
  3. Sweet...I was leaning towards a Mustang convertible, but I may have to hold out for one of these (if it will be out prior to June 28, 2010). One of these w/ a V8 and manual would be a great winter car for me to cruise around the 'Dale in... I love the profile view w/ the top up...looks chunky, solid, w/ the long hood and great RWD proportions....none of that FWD nonsense where the door is almost into the wheelwell..
  4. Yes, it's hard not think Daewoo=$h!e, lower than even Hyundai or Kia. Hopefully, they have been raising their game under GM ownership.
  5. By the time this comes out, I wonder how competitive it will be with the segment leaders, i.e. NG Civic, NG Focus, Rabbit/Jetta, etc...
  6. So Saturn will probably have it's Astra version. I wonder if their will be a Pontiac G5 and it will be badge engineered from the Chevy or more differentiated than the current model.
  7. I got the impression this is the next Astra also? (Or on a shared platform with it?)
  8. As the article says, "It’s being developed by GM’s South Korean unit, with considerable input from North America and Europe." So it's reasonable to assume over the next few years there will probably be Daewoo, Chevrolet, (and Pontiac ?) badged versions of this model. And the next Astra on this platform will be in Opel, Vauxhall, Holden and Saturn flavors, I presume. And maybe a SAAB 9-1. And probably a Buick Excelle for China. And add a big chrome grille for a HUMMER H4 version (J/K).
  9. If I had the time and space, I'd love to tackle my late father's rusty, bondoed '67 Cougar that's been parked in my family's Ohio barn..hasn't been driven or started for about 25 years. Sitting under a car cover w/ 4 flat tires.
  10. If gas goes up really high (say $7 - $10 a gallon), I'll get something more efficient (something like a Mini? Diesel Jetta? I'd like to see a diesel A3...) . Keep the oldies for the occasional summer drive, keep the Jeep for winter, and have a late model performance car for the occasional weekend drive. For now, my Jeep gets averages about 20 mpg...
  11. So this new car is what was referred to a week or two ago as the new GM high mileage compact? I wonder if they will keep the Cobalt name.
  12. Saw an exceptionally clean and shiny silver blue '82 LeSabre 4dr tonight..haven't seen one like that in ages.
  13. Good that the digital gauges are going..they looked like the kind of silliness GM had in the '90s...
  14. The next gen Titan is going to be a badge-engineered Dodge Ram, according to recent reports.
  15. I happened to look up and watch the traffic out my office window just as a sharp white '75/76 Coupe de Ville breezed by on the 101, between a Prius and a 2nd gen Scion XB...
  16. I see the '90s ones, but pretty much anything from the '80s is a pretty rare sight. At least in my area, it was rare to see cars older than 10-15 years with any frequency.
  17. Yes, and incidentially, I think the Jetta will be the only C-segment wagon (estate) sold in the US this year... (not counting the strange tall wagons like the HHR, Vibe,Matrix, or Rondo)
  18. Yes, in 1980, IIRC as the Rover 3500...had four round headlights for the NA market. I haven't seen one since about 1981.
  19. What is a D3, by the way? I always thought the early '90s Camry also copied the look of the 1st gen Taurus. As far as mainstream Japanese family sedans go, I've always preferred the Accord...even in their most vanilla products, Honda has always had a measure of good driving experience in the mix...
  20. '70s Japanese cars were severe rusters as well....I remember as a kid in Ohio, our neighbor's college-age daughter got a new '76 Accord coupe as her first new car...the last I saw of the car was around '83 or so, and it was horribly rusted out--doors, quarters, front fenders, hood, hatch...still running w/ 250k+ miles, but the body was shot. Then again, in the '70s in the Rust Belt, EVERYTHING rusted out...some very quickly.
  21. My point exactly.... in cars, as in work and life, why accept 'average'? Strive for excellence.
  22. An interior update would help...overall, I like the design of the regular G6, esp. the coupe....if the rear bumper could be recontoured on the sedan to look less thick, and some new tailights...
  23. I'm happy in suburbia, and will probably buy a house in a gated neighborhood sooner or later (my condo in Denver is in a gated complex). But when I want to get away from it all (and enjoy the old cars that are there), I still have the family farm--150 acres in Appalachia, about an 1hr from Pittsburgh, that I visit occasionally.
  24. I want an SRT8 in white. I hope they are still around in '10. I'd love to have one for my 40th birthday as a weekend toy. I've lusted after Challengers since seeing 'Vanishing Point' as a kid around 1980. Though I'd probably be happier w/ a CTS for a daily driver.
  25. Yes, even mediocre can sell....a lot of buyers couldn't tell the difference or didn't care as long as they were cheap enough.
