Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
Robert Hall replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
I remember riding school buses 35 years ago that were diesel...loud, slow, stinky...didn't have A/C either, so had to ride w/ windows open in the S Florida heat. -
Yes, software engineering/IT remains a strong field...plenty going on in NE Ohio, and with everyone looking for 100% remote currently, my 3 1/2 years of full time remote experience works in my favor. 'Office Space' felt like a documentary to me..it reminded me a lot of corporate IT in the 90s. A more recent one was the show 'Silicon Valley' which was a brilliant satire of startup company culture.

...and got a very attractive offer from the small local company this afternoon that I'm mulling over...

Continuing the old Ohio photos themes, here are some pics from Put-in-Bay, a neat little town I like on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. They are known for vintage car races, from the 40s to today.

Steubenville, Ohio (I lived there 1971-1981) Below: Port Washington, Ohio (grew up about a mile outside of town, my family has had property there since 1968). Old pic of the railroad and Ohio & Erie Canal. Port Washington elementary school--- I went there 1977-1984, my sister went there 1968-1971 when my Dad was the district superintendent. Torn down around 2000 replaced w/ a new school.

I believe that recommendation is for the scenario where you are in an untrusted car with randos (like an Uber ride, taxi ride, ride in the back of a police car, etc) or you are in your own car with randos or other resource units not in your immediate household.

^ heh-heh...'fin tech'= 'financial technology'...banking & financial related technologies.

Not much going down here in NE Ohio..cloudy and 23F today, had the coldest night of the year so far w/ about 19F last night (nothing like the polar vortex lows 2 years ago at this time). Supposed to get snow flurries today and some later this week...been a pretty mild January. On my job search, got about 2 weeks left on my current gig...been through 2nd interviews at two places, had a couple 1st interviews...in talking w/ recruiters late on Friday it sounds like offers may be coming Mon-Tues on a couple of them.. decisions, decisions..both companies in the fin tech space, one a contract w/ a big Western New York company (100% remote) with a traditional software development environment, the other an FTE position with a small local company that is growing and has pretty cutting-edge technology...

It's Friday...time to relax and look forward to the weekend..

Yes...that's why I've driven GCs for over 20 years...really nice on road as a daily in any weather, and capable off road when I want to get away... the 4Runner was really the only other SUV I looked at closely back in '00 when I bought my first GC.

Yes, it's really the form factor that has taken the auto market by storm--two box tall wagon-ish hatchbacks...regardless of whether it's a FWD/AWD car underneath, or a dedicated SUV platform or BOF truck based...

Re: Gamma...Lancia had a Gamma, and even a Megagamma. Lancia liked the Greek letter names--they also had a Beta and Delta...no Alpha (probably to avoid confusion w/ Alfa Romeo).

Always liked that song, remember when it came out when I was in college. Kind of a one hit wonder band. Where have the last 30 years gone?

Most recent shows watched are were an HBO documentary 'Murder on Middle Beach'...interesting story of a young man that made a documentary about his mother who was murdered (unsolved) about 10 years ago, she was involved in a ponzi scheme, had just gone through a messy divorce.. Another show was HBO's 'The Undoing'--pretty good drama w/ Hugh Grant, Nicole Kidman and Donald Sutherland... Currently on season 2 of 'Bloodline', a drama from a few years ago about a family in the Florida Keys with a lot of dark past secrets w/ Kyle Chandler, Sam Shepherd and Sissy Spacek..a bit soapy at times...but I like it for the authentic locations--was actually filmed in the Upper Keys in and around Islamorada w/ some trips to Miami and the surrounding area..fun because I recognize locales from when I lived down there..interesting place.

Here is another GM Omega--the Opel Lotus Omega (badged as Vauxhall Lotus Carlton in the UK). A later generation of Opel Omega came to the US as the Cadillac Catera...

Drove by that about 15 years ago. Amusing structure.

Yeah, in thinking about extremes of weather and propensity to calamity in other places I've lived, NE Ohio and Great Lakes region seems pretty safe...

Fresh food and a beach sounds nice really right now with sleet coming down. Part of me wants to live in the Florida Keys again...but then I think about hurricanes and tropical storms.

DRIVEN: 2020 Cadillac XT6 AWD Sport, MSRP about 63,500
Robert Hall replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
Meh, Nothing special--remember, this is an AWD/transverse engine generic platform underneath... for a 3 row luxury CUV/SUV, I wouldn't take one over the or a Merc GLE, BMW X5, Lincoln Aviator or the new Grand Cherokee L...
