Item: 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4
Robert Hall replied to Robert Hall's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
Yeah, really haven't been leaving the house except for the occasional vet appointment or to get takeout. Still doing Doordash/Grubhub, Instacart for groceries, and Amazon Prime for everything else.... went and got my first vaccine shot last week, had to drive to a hospital in another suburb..seemed so odd to be driving in morning rush hour traffic.. -

Yeah, 4 years of WFH incl. a year of CV staying home has resulted in the miles accumulating slowly... went to the beach and put about 50 miles on it last Saturday, which was the most in a while... -

March 31st made 4 years since I bought this Jeep w/ 25k miles. April 1st was the first road trip I took, from Phoenix up to Prescott and back down through the mountains to Wickenburg then back to Phoenix. I took this pic somewhere south of Prescott. It's been trouble free for 4 years and an additional 25k miles. May the next 4 years be uneventful. -
^ that white GP looks like the rental I had in Oregon back in '05 when I got stuck for 7 hours to go 20 miles in an ice storm on I-5.

Spotted a solid red '70 Ford Torino GT convertible in a driveway, looked like it was being worked on.

I've found the C8 to look better in person than in photos. And especially looks good in dark colors, which show off the dozens of creases on the frunk lid and bodysides. Not a fan of white or the dayglo cartoon colors, really like the bronze w/ tan leather interior.

Short sleeve dress shirts w/ ties and shorts...very strange. Maybe a 70s Florida thing?

Power been off a few hours from a storm. Ugh

I’d really like to have an additional garage or small barn to have space for a project car and to tinker. Something quasi-rural but not really rural like my family farm.
-
My next will be a ranch. I hadn't lived with stairs since childhood, it's been painful at times going up and down 3 flights to do laundry. Albeit short flights.

Yes, 3 levels plus the basement. The right side is living room, kitchen, dining room, 4 steps up from the front hallway and TV room...the TV room is at the same level as the garage, w/ a sliding door leading to the back patio...I have office space in the corner of the TV room and in one of the bedrooms.

One of the auto fix up YouTube channels I like is Watch JRGo, he's recently done repairs on a barn-find Aztek, an GMC XUV (had to replace the sliding roof), among other vehicles..his latest acquisition is this neat 1977 Mack firetruck. Fun stuff...

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
Robert Hall replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
So 30 minutes a day is unrealistic for most heavy equipment probably, except maybe something like those giant earth movers or huge off-road dump trucks. -

30 minutes a day refueling each vehicle. Maybe driving hundreds (thousands?) of miles a day w/ a large tank and very slow pumps... ? -
Yes, great garden. I really haven't done much gardening, mostly been planting shrubbery in my back yard. My cookie-cutter 1967 split level---2000 sq ft (+ 750 sq ft finished basement), 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, 1/4 acre lot, undersized 2 car garage. Wish the garage was bigger, but all in all I've been happy with it the last 4 years I've been here.

Lexus already has 3 row SUVs---the GX and LX, so I guess they didn't think they needed a 3 row CUV.
-
Clear valve covers or cam covers, oil pans etc coupled w/ cameras would be useful for using a screen on the dash to keep watch on the engine.

different gear ratios for low speed off-roading? Depends on the reality context, diesels can be quite loud and unpleasant if one is a pedestrian and has to hear them passing on streets. In the past I've found myself walking in cities and heard diesels. And certainly driving w/ the windows down and getting passed by some yahoo in a diesel monster truck or a semi accelerating the noise is quite unpleasant. Noise pollution... -

The turbo in a J80 like that would be a 4.2 inline 6 diesel.

For Zep, I love ‘When the Levee Breaks’ and ‘In the Evening’. Love the opening of Levee....

February finds on the open road (cars you've seen this month)

Ford's 'modular' family was named as such because in theory components could be interchanged between V6 and V8 engines of different displacements. Long running family of engines, in SOHC and DOHC versions. The first reunion was fun...small turn out, maybe 20 people out of a class of 64. Flew in from Colorado Springs. The 2nd reunion had a bigger turnout, had an '08 Mustang convertible rental then. Flew in from Arizona. Was really hot and humid in Miami in July, but the breezes offset the humidity in Marathon. Not sure why, but we didn't have a 30th reunion in 2018.
