I know. I replied to your reply to his post. I'd say it's more personalization than full-blown customization, though---there isn't much of that going on today, not like all the custom cars 50-60 years ago w/ custom paint, custom body work, etc..not much of that anymore.

Yes, you don't see much of it with the usual lease appliances, but customization is alive and well with Jeeps and other 4x4s, pickups and SUVs. Loads of aftermarket and dealer stuff for Jeeps, esp. Wranglers.

I do like the slim front lighting trend, after years of excess cluster bloat.

They had to out do Ford's max starting price point.. So a similar body layout to the Hummer EV as far as the integral bed.

The bigger safety issue at this point w/ Tesla is the 'auto pilot' cruise control and people thinking they can take a nap while driving, etc..been many crashes and some fatalities to misuse of that feature.

Speaking of Colonnades, I see that Greenlight has come out w/ a 1/64th '73 Chevelle 2dr diecast. One version out is a gray one from the movie 'Drive' (great gritty crime movie, love the soundtrack). I'll have to get one to go with my other Greenlight Colonnades ('76-77 Pontiac Le Mans 4dr sedan and wagon).

I know you are looking for a paranoid conspiracy theory, but maybe there have been more pressing real world issues that have dominated the new cycles the last few years? Also, how many cases of actual fires have been attributed to this issue? Any fatalities or injuries? Googling 'Hyundai engine fires' have turned up plenty of mainstream press articles, not just from automotive news sources, so it has gotten coverage. Meaning for whatever reason, the Hyundai/Kia issues haven't got the media attention of the Pinto issues 40+ years ago. Also, the Pintos were exploding in accidents--very dramatic, while the Hyundai/Kia issue seems to be spontaneous fires.

Different time and place...the Pinto recalls were over 40 years ago...

The early Colonnades looked better from the rear than the later ones, I like the tight fit rear bumpers of the '73 Olds and Buick...they had the best rears. IMO.. Never liked the dual round headlight front ends--just looked like cheapassery considering the A-bodies always had quad headlights from '64-72 (except for the weak '71-72 Chevelle front). They would have looked better w/ quad headlights, IMO. But I do like the front ends of the Grand Am and Laguna, despite the dual headlights. My favorite of the late Colonnades are probably the '76-77 Cutlass Supreme and Cutlass S/442 (like the sloped front end) and '77 Pontiac Can Am...I like the horizontal quad rectangular lights these had more than the stacked rectangular quads some models had.

Dealers that pull those stunts should lose their franchise, have their inventories seized and returned to the manufacturers, and buildings bulldozed. Make them hurt.

Always liked the ‘Tubthumping’ song. And the Park Avenue Ultra. Never thought I’d see them mentioned in the same post.

Maybe it's more about fitting w/ their existing naming scheme. Encore, Envision, Enclave, Electra...it fits. Since GM is calling their EV technology 'Ultium', Buick could revive the 'Ultra' trim for the EVs.... Encore Ultra, Envision Ultra, Elclave Ultra..that could work. It's going to be interesting to see what is to come over the next few years, and how GM differentiates their new EV models across the brands.

Electra also fits with their 'e' naming scheme...I assume they will make EV-versions of the Encore, Envision and Enclave eventually... Different naming schemes for different brands...marketing stuff.. at least Cadillac is creating new names and identities rather than tacking on 'EV-series' with something like XT5-EV, CT5-EV which would have been obvious..(though it sounds like they may do something like that w/ an EV Escalade eventually?) And Chevy could use 'ChEVy' and 'ChEVrolet'

I just don't see people nostalgic for Grandpa's car from decades ago will drive sales of something new and very different. The name fits with EV without the nostalgia...'Electra' connotes 'electric', 'EV', etc...

Electra makes sense...it's one of those names that fits perfectly w/ an EV, like Bolt and Volt..so why not use it? Better than some alphanumeric nonsense like Buick X12L-e or something...

And it's white and black..unoriginal and so boring of a color choice. Doesn't have a bold grille like Chrysler is known for, could be anything...vaguely Volvo/Polestar in profile. Is it a sedan? a hatchback? maybe. Interior looks decent, though.

Update from last year..still watching most above from 18 months ago, also watching more of the Wichita Mafia channels—- Car Ninja 100 % Jake Elliott Alvis out of Chicago, Legit Street Cars. I’ve enjoyed the 6 series of episodes of Car Trek—Ed Bolian of VINwiki (best voice on You Tube), Tyler Hoover (Hoovie’s Garage) and Freddy ‘Tavarish’ Hernandez. Kind of a Top Gear/Grand Tour ripoff, better than the US Top Gear. Another one I watch occasionally is Life of Lind—guy on the Colorado prairie fixing up old RVs, buses and old trucks.

It’s funny that Buick has a much lower ATP than Chevy…it’s now GM’s bargain brand. Obviously because they don’t have the full size BOF SUVs and trucks. Crazy numbers.

With the demise of most of their car lines in the shift to CUVs/SUVs and trucks, I'd assume the ATP now is considerably higher than it was 5 years ago for both brands.

A search locally turned up a couple 2012-2014 Camry Hybrids around $10k with 130-165k miles, and one 2008 Hybrid with a little over 100k miles. The lowest mileage seems to be a 2005 w/ only 59k for $9999.
