Industry News: "Auto Shows Are Dead" Says Volkswagen's Chairman
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
Went to the Cleveland show this year for the first time in 25 years, it was pretty good. Was packed w/ people the rainy Saturday I was there, they had the Jeep indoor obstacle course, most all the cars were unlocked and some had to get in line to sit inside. For a regional non-car premiering show, I thought it was pretty good..better than Phoenix, IMO. And as far as new cars premiering at shows, that's usually of only interest to the journos I would think..- 5 replies

Supposedly, First Energy rate here in the Cleveland burbs is about 5.25c/KWh. Summer, when the electric bill is higher from running the A/C a lot hasn't been that bad so far.... my highest was for July, $235...in comparison, in Phoenix running the A/C 24/7 in July for a house 1/2 the size was usually $450-600/month from June-Sept.

Seems like government policies from the current corrupt, unstable government led by the orange cretin would be more likely the cause of a new-future economic collapse.

20 seconds to do a google search turns up one recent source is speculation of a 2020 economic crash in a paper by an analyst..I'm sure there are others out there. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/energy/expert-makes-the-case-for-400-per-barrel-oil https://www.pkverlegerllc.com/assets/documents/180704200CrudePaper.pdf

It's funny, those humpy 49-51 Mercs have zero interest to me, always thought it was a generational thing. On the other hand, I do like Mercurys of the late 60s and early 70s..

Why would they have the Ford badge altered? Seems shady. I'll have to watch for the Caprices and see if they also have their badges modified. Maybe I should call my city councilman and demand the answer..

Was behind a local police Ford Explorer Interceptor in traffic, and noticed the blue oval badge had been changed to black w/a blue stripe across it. Odd

The rear end makes me think Honda more than Toyota...but the styling overall is definitely from the Prius & Marai 'dare to be weird' school of style. I guess it's their answer to the Velociter and Juke for a small 4dr hatch CUV-ish thingy. As far as an entry-level CUV, the HR-V, Kicks and others seem more practical. Rather than viewing it as a small CUV, one call also view it as a compact hatch, an alternative to the milquetoast Corolla hatchback. One gets more edgy style in this than the Corolla.

Not an in-person sighting, but amusing nonetheless....while streaming the French crime drama 'Witnesses' over the weekend, I noticed one of the lead detectives was driving a late 70s Cadillac Seville. Found this pic from the series on the Internet Movie Car Database. The car was dark blue w/ tinted windows and a brown interior, missing the side rubstrip trim on the front doors. This was a show set in 2014 in the northeast coastal area of France. The lead detective's VW Golf got totalled, and she drove a 70s Opel Rekord sedan in later episodes.

I haven't seen a Sportback on the road yet, but back in mid-May saw a brown TourX at a gas station...only new Regal I've seen out and about in NE Ohio.. I find the TourX quite striking in person.

Jeep News: Rumorpile: A Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk?!

If the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer ever does come out, I suspect it will have many trim levels, and a Trailhawk and Trackhawk would make sense..- 23 replies

Volvo News: To Avoid Tariffs, Volvo Sources XC60s For U.S. From Sweden
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Volvo
I wonder what percentage of foreign-branded vehicles sold in the US are built in the US...a lot of the high volume sedans are built here (Accord, Altima, Camry, Corolla etc). And BMW and M-B build most of their CUVs/SUVs here, as do others (Honda Pilot, etc). -
The weather forecast is much the same here. Been really nice this week, esp. the last couple of days. I've been doing a bit of grilling and working a few hours a day sitting on my back patio..

Jeep News: Rumorpile: A Grand Wagoneer Trackhawk?!
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
Right...I also noticed when this first made the rounds a 'Low D 3 row' -- a 3 row version of the next Cherokee, and a 3 row midsize listed (E-segment 3 row). Basically a 3 row GC...wonder if it will be branded as a GC and sort of be the Durango replacement.. Since Jeep has 0 3 rows now, I could see both of these here given how hot the CUV/SUV market is...- 23 replies

I assume their US entries would be CUVs like the DS7 and Cactus. The Cactus did have some Citroen weirdness, but less so w/ the latest version. For any French brand to succeed in the US, they would need to play up French aspects and the weirdness when compared to the generic Asian brands or Germans.

Toyota News: Upcoming Toyota Supra To Offer Turbo-Four and Six
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Toyota
Toyota used to make straight 6s, all 4 past generations of Supra had straight 6s. Alas, they have to make V6s for the transverse engine appliances. Different market niche than the Stinger. I suspect the Supra will be higher priced than the 370Z, probably closer to Corvette pricing..- 18 replies

Toyota News: Upcoming Toyota Supra To Offer Turbo-Four and Six

Hmm...interesting. A Toyota w/ a BMW 6. BMW 6s are good engines, but a Supra needs a Toyota straight 6, IMO.- 18 replies
