Paid $3.45/gal for regular today, only had a $66 fill up...my lowest in a while. Back in June when I was driving to the farm 4-5 times a week, it was $90-100 every 2-3 days..

Had a nice getaway today to Kelley's Island in Lake Erie, took the ferry over and went around to a couple wineries, had a good lunch, sat on the beach for a while...overcast but only 76, nice weather for August. Saw a clean blue '67 Chevelle convertible on the island, along w/ a silver late model Jag F-Type R convertible that was also beside me on the ferry...don't see those very often. On the freeway on the way out there saw a bright yellow C8 coupe and a very clean black 80s-90s Jeep Cherokee 4dr (XJ)...always liked the boxy compact Cherokee, nice to see one so clean. At a gas station, saw this custom '51 Mercury--chatted briefly w/ the driver who appeared to be in his early 20s.

Yeah, got those here also...Giant Eagle w/ Get Go..I have two of those about a mile each from my house...I've shopped at them occasionally for groceries but never bought gas. I now mostly use Whole Foods via Amazon and Heinen's (local chain) via Instacart..

Last year out in the middle of nowhere I stopped at a small gas station that had the slowest pump I’d ever encountered. Took a looong time to pump 20 gallons…

I like the lights..looks like a nice upgrade. I wouldn't mind having an early '80s Eldo convertible for Lake Erie beach trips in the summer..

Saw a blue Rivian R1T last night up close when leaving a concert..was driving out of the lot..very sharp up close, I like the lighting front and rear.

Went to a concert last night of the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center amphitheater...2nd row seats, I love classical music and esp. in a semi-outdoors setting.. I love Blossom--beautiful venue in a hilly, wooded setting only 25 min from home.. Beethoven's 4th and 5th symphonies. Going to see Vivaldi at the end of the month at the same place. It's fun going to the orchestra outside--can dress casually--shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, instead of dressed up like I usually do when going to Severance Hall in downtown Cleveland.

Who knows, it looks like the render came from Stellantis (says Source: Jeep). Not some rando on the internet as is common w/ future vehicles. And the rendering matches these photos of an actual vehicle testing in Europe. https://cleantechnica.com/2022/08/06/all-new-electric-jeep-caught-undisguised-in-europe/

My guess is Compass-sized? It looks similar to the current Compass...

Saw a minty dark red late 80s Firebird w/ t-tops..wasn't a Formula or Trans Am, but a clean base trim. Also saw a sharp bright red w/ black top early 90s Olds Cutlass Supreme convertible.

^ I saw a truck recently that had the Mexican and Italian flag decals on the back window...and they looked the same except for the logo in the white part of the Mexican.
-
^ I think that is Ireland's flag? If the order of the colors were reversed, it would be Ivory Coast.

I think a lot of the BS EV's have added on is where the 'more complex' comes in...like the doorhandles on Teslas or Mach-es, the 'self-driving', etc... an EV doesn't need that stuff to be usable. And the 'refueling' is definitely perceived as more complex and time consuming--the struggle to find a working charging station, the apps for using the charging station, the time it takes to charge, having to carefully plan trip routes around the availability of working charging stations, etc vs the ubiquity, speed and simplicity of refueling at gas stations...

I wonder if the new Ranger will offer a hybrid or EV version..it's due out in the next year or so? I assume it will offer the same powertrains as the Bronco. -
Neat..but covers about a dozen vents..

Just saw an article claiming Stellantis is planning a new generation of lighter ICE Chargers and Challengers on a new platform for 2024-5ish... can't recall where, I think it was a credible source.. Edit: it was Motor Trend..read it this morning...no timeline mentioned. Hope it happens. Can't be all CUVs and SUVs, need some largish coupes and sedans too... https://www.motortrend.com/news/next-gen-dodge-charger-challenger-hellcat-v8/

Good looking truck...nice interior. The underbody camera is a neat feature. -
^Re: family car factoid: '49 Ford--a dark blue '49 Ford fordor was my parents' first new car (21 years before I was born)...I have an old B&W photo of it I will scan and post eventually. They traded it on a '52 Ford 3 years later. When they got married in '48, my Dad was driving his Dad's '40 Packard. coupe.

A buddy in college had a red '90 Maxima SE w/ a manual...was a sweet car. Years later, a buddy in Colorado had a gray '01 Maxima SE w/ a manual...it was his daily for 15 years until a hailstorm totaled it. He replaced it with a CPO '13 Audi A6 that has been nothing but trouble since then..

I like the Bonneville profile, but that interior is over the top overwrought.

I always liked the Brady Bunch house.
-
Never seen LITB, before my time...about the only old sitcom I recall watching in reruns as a kid was the Brady Bunch, which was in color and closer in time to me.. my older brother was named Wally. He probably watched LITB as a kid in the 50s-60s.

My Jeep has push button start and an accessory mode. I occasionally use accessory so my phone w/ charge, but usually if I'm parked for a while and in it (esp. this time of year) I leave the engine running so the A/C runs.. Yeah, I was using them w/ my brother's vehicles, and then put them in my '69 and '87 Mustangs so they can be started and moved around at their current storage. Once they are restored/ready to register, I'll get better batteries. The shop I'm working with put new batteries of some sort in my brother's cars and motorcycles before the auction (except for the paperweights).
