Yeah, remember that's a FWD/AWD transverse engine platform...I think GM's days of doing FWD V8 cars is in the past...

First Impressions: 2020 Toyota Corolla: Comments
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in LA Auto Show
I know a guy in Denver that is a multi-millionaire that drives a '94 Corolla he bought new, has a lot of miles on it. Also has a '98 Tacoma for winter use. He's not really a car fan, but tight w/ money. -

Speaking of appliances, I really like my new GE washer and dryer. Was an early Xmas present a couple weeks ago. -

Yes, like the Prius. Just practical, functional, reliable transportation for the 98% of the driving population.. -
That perplexed me also...maybe he was only 5' 7" then and had a growth spurt after? Or replaced the driver's seat with a thin foam pad flat on the floor? Or had a sunroof and drove with his head through it?

Rivian R1S SUV Promises To Go Anywhere On Electricity: Comments
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
The front design is growing on me, not sure about the vertical lighting elements. I do like how restrained and clean it is overall, compared to the overwrought front ends with giant grilles that are typically seen on large trucks and SUVs.- 34 replies

Yeah, with GM pretty much any small car they have had since the 70s has been unrelentingly mediocre...the Vega, the '80s-90s J-cars, etc.. the Cruze may have been decent, but it didn't seem to catch on in the market.

Or the '62 Chevy II Nova. It was rushed to market since the Corvair wasn't cutting it, is what I've read. The Corvair was an expensive failure for GM.

Mercedes- Benz Unveils the AMG GT and GT Pro for 2020: Comments
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in LA Auto Show
I really like the blue cabrio...sharp interior. Looks like a great car for a relaxed winding road road trip.. -
You would think the longer wheelbase would result in more rear leg room, but I don't think they have published those numbers yet. The reason it has the longer wheelbase is it's a reskinned Acadia. Same wheelbase. The exterior dimensions are identical to the Acadia, so I suspect the legroom inside is similar.

What makes it so odd is the Blazer has a 5 inch longer wheelbase and is 10 inches longer overall than the Equinox but seemingly negligible increase in interior space. They are following the Camaro formula---big and wildly styled outside, small inside.

Aviator seems like it targets where an XT6 or XT7 would be. They already have the MKC (Corsair) and MKX (Nautilus) to target the XT4 and XT5.

The lighting and upper grille shape remind me a bit of the Charger. And the dash layout and shape remind me of the 300 only smaller. Or maybe I'm seeing things.

It would be pretty cool to see a production Camaro with a drivetrain option like this, tuned for real world use.

2020 Lincoln Aviator Returns After A 13-Year Absence: Comments
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
Different people, different tastes. It's good for the mfgrs to offer choices of trim. I like a subtle use of chrome. I don't like monochromatic--that's a tired '80s-90s thing to me. And I really don't like blacked out trim, except maybe on sports cars. And esp. white SUVs w/ black wheels..so overdone.?- 19 replies

Not sure, can't seem to find the numbers. But they are following the Camaro formula---big on the outside, tiny inside.

Rivian has been around 9 years it sounds like. It seems EV startup companies have long product gestation periods prior to actual production. -
Jaguar News: Rumorpile: F-Type Could Offer An Electric Powertrain
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Jaguar
Edit--about 6 1/2 years. The Model S started shipping in June 2012. Or 10 years going back to the Roadster.
