Quick Drive: 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Limited
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Reviews
I'd think they would do a Journey replacement on this platform...and maybe a Chrysler-branded CUV also.- 15 replies

My first thought of what is under the tarp is a mid engined car with a high rear..the cab looks way forward. Or a convertible w/top down? Saw a really clean 82-85 Supra in black today. Haven’t seen one in forever, always liked the angular styling.

Rainy day, mostly gray skies but some sunshine this afternoon...pretty mild for the end of December. Took a drive over to Steubenville, Ohio where I lived as a kid in the '70s. In Steubenville spotted the distinctive shape of a boattail Riviera under a car cover in a backyard. Right down the street from that was a solid looking brown w/ tan top '74 Le Sabre 4dr ht parked on the street. Also cruised past my childhood home (in good condition, was on the market a couple years ago) and the house next door where an older Italian couple had lived in the '70s (had a black '73 Cadillac Sedan de Ville and gold '71 Olds 98 back then), now had a new gray Honda Civic Type R in the driveway..nice neighborhood of brick and stone houses. Saw two '19 Chevy Silverados driving around, one dark red and one dark blue. Saw a red 6th gen Camaro SS on a rollback, looked like it had it had a hard front end collision. Saw a very rusty '53-54 Chevy 2dr sedan in a yard along Ohio Rt 7 while passing through a rural area.

Drove down to Steubenville, Ohio today w/ my sister..visited some of our favorite restaurants from childhood there in the 70s (she went to high school and college there, I did kindergarten and elementary school there). Pizza from a small take-out joint and a 'meatball heel' sandwich from a hole-in-the wall Italian restaurant...as tasty as I remember it from 1977. On the way over there and back drove past the GM Lordstown plant twice..it's right beside I-80. Huge place. Did see a couple of the new Silverados out and about, one in dark red and one in dark blue, both 4drs. Driving along Ohio Rt 7 along the Ohio river drove through this tunnel that goes through a huge power plant in Stratton, Ohio. A couple pics of the bridges over the Ohio River at Steubenville..

I don't think I've ever seen the Jaguar XE...pretty obscure. Of the current compact luxury sedans, I do like the styling of the Alfa---I like the traditional vertical Alfa shield grille shape and the offside license plate. I like the looks of the Infiniti also. If were leasing one of these as a daily driver, I'm not sure which one I'd go for..have to test drive a few, they all have their competencies. The German 3 seem the most popular around here, especially Audis. I see lots of Audis.

Jeep News: Jeep Finds Itself With A Lot of Wranglers
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
I went to the build and price and maxed out an Unlimited 4x4 Moab w/ all the options..$57780.00. Wowza. I'd rather have a Grand Cherokee Summit w/ the V8 for a similar price.- 10 replies

Maybe they should adopt a more aerodynamic design instead of the blocky bloated look...

It's a bit more than 'difference of opinion'...the Kochs and other climate change denying right wing filth represent an existential threat to all of humanity. They are anti-future and anti-American.

Was at a bar at the top of the Hilton downtown after the symphony last night, came out and there was a brown Escalade and a black CT6 parked nose-to-tail. Alas, my Uber X driver's car was less impressive (Mitsubishi Outlander...previous drivers yesterday had a Dodge Journey and the crazy Asian guy had a previous gen Toyota Highlander---driving 60-65 mph weaving in and out of traffic on a 45mph limit boulevard..) . Took a few pics out of the windows of the bar--too cold to go out on the deck. Will have to go back in warmer weather..

It's really too bad they didn't go the path Ford seems to be going w/ the new Bronco for the Blazer...

Crazy pricing. A base Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 is $32.9k. V6 standard.

Of course he's a flight risk...I'm surprised Renault didn't send a corporate jet to remove him. Corrupt sleazeball. Probably has cash stashed in the many cities around the world where he has apartments..

I got weird results from those...Louisville, Ky, Charleston, SC and Memphis. Which is very odd, as I don't have a Southern accent. My parents were from Kentucky, my brother was born in Louisville. I really don't have an Upper Ohio Valley accent (I don't say warsh) or a Cleveland accent (I don't say 'ruff' for 'roof') either. Lived in NE Ohio, S Florida, SE Michigan, Colorado and Arizona. But I do say ‘soda’ and pronounce Aunt as ‘ant’...probably got that from my folks. Funny thing is, I've had coworkers when I lived in Colorado ask if I was from California because of my accent/lack of accent. (and my tendency to refer to freeways w/ 'the' like 'The 480').

Funny that they are saying how hard it for them to do an EV, considering their corporate siblings Audi and Porsche are just about there. Just take the eTron GT or Taycan, put on some squared bodywork, mesh grille, quilted seats and lots of wood, and instant Bentley EV. Seems inefficient that each brand within VWAG would be developing their own EV technology and platforms, seems like the dirty bits would be shared across the brands, as they do now with ICE platforms and powertrains.

GM News: Unifor Drops Some Print Ads on GM's Doorstep
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
Not particularly a fan of unions, but I loathe management scum, tend to side w/ workers than the MBA shit-for-brains running things. I prefer being an hourly independent consultant/hired gun.- 63 replies

Non-union plants? I don't know how much of a labor cost difference there is, but there must be some difference.- 63 replies

GM News: Unifor Drops Some Print Ads on GM's Doorstep
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
Good to see workers fight back..don't know if it will be effective or not. GM (and other manufacturers) would move all production to 3rd world cheap labor locations if they could get away with it, they have no interest in local manufacturing, they just want to churn out product as fast and cheaply as possible. They couldn't care less about the workers; only the profits for the shareholders and bonuses for incompetent, corrupt executives.- 63 replies

Heh-heh... I'm glad I'm not still in the IT sweat shop Wells Fargo was in Chandler, AZ 10 years ago when I was there. On a team of 25 people, one died of a heart attack at age 35 and 2 others (45 and 58) had heart attacks in a 6 month stretch. The last two had their laptops in the hospital so they could keep working while ill (though they were off their usual 65hr a week output). 3 years there was enough for me.

Only worked w/ one French Canadian. He was interesting...introduced me to poutine. I worked with quite a few Canadians from Regina, Saskatchewan in Denver...great bunch...they were a work hard, party hard crew... Took some time to get used to JAAA-va instead of 'JAH-va' and Zed instead of Z... along w/ Western Pizza, Kokanee beer, Canadian Mist, etc...
