Polestar 2 Unveiled Ahead of Geneva: Comments
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Geneva International Motor Show
Outside looks ok...interior is too dark and gloomy. I'm sure the interior is fine as far as materials and fit and finish, I really like the current Volvo interior designs. But I prefer their interiors with color and wood rather than the coalmine look...- 25 replies

Peugeot Selected As Brand for PSA's Return to U.S.

I could see them bringing the next generation of their crossovers, if crossovers are still a big deal in the US in 5+ years. They have several now. -
U.S. News & World Report, Best V8 SUVs on the Market
Robert Hall replied to G. David Felt's topic in Industry News
Kind of incomplete as far as trims and variations, though..they only list the JGC SRT, but not the Trackhawk or regular trims w/ the V8 option (which is a different engine tune than the SRT or Trackhawk). They don't list the regular Yukon but oddly only the Denali. -
Interesting list. I've seen the electronic keyless home locks, but there are too many failure scenarios w/ them. No reason to get rid of a physical key for me. I do watch some YouTube short videos or news clips on my phone or tablet, but for watching a tv show, movie, etc I like my HDTVs... Sadly, I see manual transmissions going away in the US market, still likely to be common outside the US. I will have another manual car eventually, I like them for a fun car. For the daily grind, prefer an automatic. As long as people drive themselves, I see a need for auto insurance. I quit using desktop PCs over a decade ago for home use, laptops only since 2008, but I know companies still like them for offices. Working from home, I like the flexibility to work/surf from my home office, or on the sofa, patio, kitchen, etc. Haven't regularly worn a watch in at least a decade (no point w/ a cellphone), though I still have watches..I do wear them as jewelry once in a while. I can't see myself using a smart watch anytime soon. Still have remote controls for my TV and home theater equipment--and they get lost in the sofa---no interest in voice control. Still have DVDs/Blu Rays, though I have mostly streamed content the last few years... I do use energy efficient light bulbs, may try some smart bulbs for home automation eventually.

DRIVEN: 2019 Chevrolet Blazer LT AWD 3.6
Robert Hall replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
It’s funny, with all the talk about CUV pricing and market position etc in this thread, I’m seeing ads for CUV lease deals in my FB timeline. XT5 about the same/month as a CR-V, but CX-5 about $15/mo more...LR Disco Sport $100/mo more....Subie Forester and Ascent are only $9/month apart. -

The Blazer XL would make sense for the US also, give Chevy something equivalent to the Acadia and XT6, fill the gap between the Blazer and Traverse and target the Explorer. -

I wouldn’t compare the ATS to a Fusion. A proper RWD sports sedan vs a FWD family sedan. Apples and oranges. Different niches. And Cadillac dealers are usually separate from Chevy dealers in the US, don’t know of many that are on the same site. -

Meh... Yes....so much unrelenting mediocrity. Have they really improved since then with the volume stuff? I know the quality and reliability is better, but the product just seems so uninspired.. -

True..they've improved since the infinite mediocrity of the 80s-90s X-bodies, A-bodies, J-bodies.....truly generic appliances. Disposable, forgettable cars with no character, just cheap plastics and trivial brand differences. These CUVs have distinct styling, but they are just as forgettable as past GM generics..just fodder for recycling in 10-15 years, nothing memorable. Sad that GM doesn't aspire to do better. -

Different badging, different dealers (usually). I'd assume the interior plastics are better than the Chevy, GMC or Buick and they have more interior color choices? -

GM just can't help themselves... new GM is like old GM still in that if we have a platform available, every dealer gets a variation... esp. something that is currently hot like midsize crossovers. C1XX is the J-body or W-body etc of today.. same meat, different toppings. I'd assume the '64 A-bodies had the same chassis...same wheelbase. What point would it have been to have different chassis for each brand? I know GM had a lot of duplication back then like different V8s at each brand, but I would have thought they would strive for some commonality for economies of scale in manufacturing, esp. with the dirty bits. I would think the '65 B-body chassis would have been similar across the brands also other than wheelbase variations...likewise for the C-bodies. Anyway, back to present day..the one vehicle w/ different trims view is intriguing...what is a GM brand/division these days, beyond styling and trim? Just a marketing organization mostly.. -

Maybe more reliable...the Korean products tend to be more simpler and more reliable than the infinitely complex Germans. -

Who knows...even in the ancient black & white world GM did have some body and platform sharing between divisions. -

The more things change with GM, the more they stay the same...every brand gets it's own versions. They went so crazy w/ GMT360, surprised Pontiac and Cadillac didn't get variations of that... -

??? Peugeot is a PSA brand, Renault is a Renault-Nissan brand. Unrelated. I don't think there has been any announcement about Renault returning to NA. -

I'm not sure what they can do to stand out in a crowded market. Citroen or DS would have been a better choice for emphasizing the 'Frenchness'...Citroen today, though, doesn't have the weird factor that was their strength in the past. Other than VW, there aren't any non-premium mainstream European brands in the US these days, so Peugeot could fit in that way, as an alternative to VW or the mainstream Korean and Japanese brands....but with what hook to make it stand out? -

Alas, the world is full of such uniformed, clueless people...and this is an enthusiast page, so we are aware of common platforms...I have no interest in what the general public think about anything... -

I don't know why Chevy would target Acura, though..that's what GMC or Buick is for. Chevy should be targeting Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Ford, Hyundai, etc...the entry level brands. -

The Blazer seems like a Murano competitor more than anything...they even copied the older Murano styling w/ the kicked up quarter window. -

I suppose so, but I can't really compare cars from long ago with these plastic generic FWD lease appliances. Different GM, different time and place. Ford doesn't have any filler brands anymore, though since they got rid of Mercury..so I'm not surprised they run the price up to Lincoln price points. -
