A couple random observations whilst watching a good British police drama (Line of Duty) this past week.... the Brits do seem to love their estates (wagons)...the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia wagons have sharp, striking shapes.. And the trope about M-B taxis even pops up in a TV drama...one character (a lawyer) was driving a black late model Mercedes E-class sedan while spying on his wife, and there is a line about a random person walking up to it thinking it's a 'minicab' (British for private taxi/black car service).

Another beautiful summer weekend. Cool and sunny. Another trip to the islands, went to Put-in-Bay (South Bass Island) yesterday. Lake Erie was choppy on the ferry crossing, lots of spray on the deck. Saw this neat Eldorado convertible w/ a rumble seat. Also saw a white and gray Rolls Royce Wraith coupe on the freeway..what a beast. I've read have a Sunday old car cruise around the island every Sunday during the summer...will have to come back on a Sunday and check out the cruise and the car museum also. Had lunch at The Keys---a Florida Keys-themed bar...pretty good Mojito and Cuban sandwich. Not sure how it started, but Put-in-Bay markets itself as the Key West of Ohio...lots of bars and a couple wineries. Fun place...pics of the War of 1812 Perrys Monument, a marker outside The Keys that is reminiscent of the one in Key West, and a pic from the ferry heading back to the mainland yesterday afternoon...I could spend all summer in the islands.

The Bolt seems like it would make a decent city car...but it's really tiny, goofy looking and pricey. Maybe a restyle w/ squared off mini-Silverado front end styling would help...

Lincoln News: Pair of EVs Spells Death For Continental
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lincoln
They are sharp cars, one of those cars that looks much better in person than in photos...I made a run to Ace Hardware this morning and drove past a house where an older guy was out mowing his lawn, had his garage door open...a new burgundy Continental was sitting in the garage next to a late 80s Town Car in a similar color. -
A very strange looking homemade crew cab Chebby Another odd crew cab.. I like this one... How about a Jeep FC crew cab?

Actually, in some markets families do use MPVs/minivans instead of CUVs. Some of the M-B promotional videos show families (albeit likely German ones) using the EQV...many different use cases are possible for such a vehicle. I could see a spacious electric minivan as an alternative to M-B's other family vehicles like the GLE or GLS.
-
I'm sure it would be a blast to drive...I love performance wagons.
-
Audi's Avant wagons have been sleek since the mid 80s...this is just the current one.
-
It's not a CUV..it's a proper station wagon...the performance wagon version of the A6 sedan.
-
That was just a funny looking wagon, though. Not a proper tall roof minivan w/ sliding doors.
-
I am surprised they haven't marketed a Vito or Metris family luxury minivan in the US before...I'm sure there are people that would buy one for the badge alone...
-
Yeah, seems like an odd spot for it. There is no standard for where chargers sit relative to vehicles, unlike gas pumps which an ICE vehicle pulls up beside...vehicles can be beside, in front of, or behind a charger...as long as the power hose is long enough to reach, the port can be most anywhere... this van appears to be related to the Metris, so an electric delivery van for Amazon, etc would make a lot of sense in parts of the US.

Audi News: Audi Offering Seven Day Rental with New Purchases
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Audi
Yes..but it's probably operated as a distinct business entity and they buy or lease cars from Audi NA, Audi NA probably doesn't give them cars... -
Audi News: Audi Offering Seven Day Rental with New Purchases
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Audi
The rental company probably got a volume discount on ordering all the same color en masse...and silver has been Audi's signature hue for decades... -
Droopy headliners was a GM thing in the late 70s and throughout the 80s IIRC. I've never had a vehicle w/ that issue.
-
That's like a 15yr old worn out car, though. Not worth fixing.

Another weekend in the islands. Saw this sharp 55 Chevy Bel Air convertible on Kelleys Island. Also saw a sharp yellow Jeep Commando and a couple out to pasture 59-60 Ford pickups. Saw a few tiny Suzuki Kei vans and crew cab pickups. Beautiful evening sitting here waiting to drive on the ferry. It’s refueling from an 80s Ford tanker truck in the old Sohio paint scheme. Beautiful place. Driving out of Marblehead yesterday evening after the ferry ride saw a dark blue Bentley Mulsanne and a dark red Lambo Aventador SV...seemed out of place in a small Ohio lakeside town.

It's there to fill the gap between the bumper and body. That's probably a modern aftermarket Continental kit. Good day for old GM sightings... saw a clean white early Fiero GT, a clean white mid 80s Cutlass Supreme 2dr (white 1/4 top and red interior), a clean bronze early 80s Camaro Berlinetta, a clean black '67 Camaro, a clean yellow '75 Olds 88 convertible top down, tan interior...a couple out enjoying the beautiful Friday afternoon weather...

That would definitely be the way the German 3 approach the market...

Chevrolet News:Officially Official: Corvette Starts at $59,995
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
It will be interesting to see how the performance compares to cars like the Ferrari 488. In Z51 spec the estimated 0-60 time sounds in the same range, but over $200k less... It's in the 718 Boxster/Cayman price range, but potentially playing at a higher level... -

LoL....I've worn New Balance since high school, and am XXL... but I don't go to Old Country Buffet and don't plan on buying a Vette anytime soon... -
Interesting how the trim below the decklid/above the rear bumper differs between the 60S and the 75..
