Bingo..it has nothing to do with Baby Boomers, been around long before that. I like a tasteful use of chrome trim, instead of the current faddish black out treatments....too many white SUVs w/ black wheels and trim--when will that fad end? Likewise with carbon fiber visible on anything but a race car...carbon fiber is hideous looking, IMO. Along with the stupid matte finish wraps...another dumb fad of this era. I associate the black out and matte finish looks with Millennials, but i realize the appeal of it spans generations. I do like actual monochromatic (everything body color) trim treatments of the late 80s and 90s, but only in that context--wouldn't look good today, IMO. Just like fins and wide whitewalls--only appropriate in the late 50s-early 60s. Context-specific usage. Keep in mind 78 and 76 aren't Baby Boomers--they are of the generation before that. (Baby Boomers are 1946-1964).

Non-sequitor. There is no point in comparing a compact CUV with a Camaro or Mustang. Different niche, different buyers.

Yeah, I had to replace a whole mirror assembly on my Jeep when the lower surround of it was cracked. Was $380 to replace (incl. labor). Have to take off the interior door panel to unbolt it and disconnect the wires..

I got the extended warranty on my CPO Jeep for 7 years/100,000 miles. I don't plan to keep it past 100,000 miles so I figured it was worth it.

Compact and midsize mainstream BEV CUVs could go a ways towards mainstreaming BEVs. A subcompact like the Bolt is limited in appeal.

Suzuki builds a lot of Kei cars and tiny cheap cars in developing markets...maybe Toyota wants more of that...

Probably a handful off road fans in the UK care about solid axles, but I suspect 99.99% of potential buyers don't care.... it just doesn't matter...the Explorer has never been a serious off-roader, hasn't had a solid axle in a few generations, the Grand Cherokee lost it's solid front axle in '05 w/ the WK generation, etc.

Edit: That pic came from a website about the PIB races, but I suspect they grabbed a pic from a later Australian race—the Valiant appears RHD. And there is a 65 Mustang in there, and the last PIB race was 63. When I was out there yesterday, I saw several markers that indicated the route of the original races, and I remembered a Road & Track article I’d read about it years ago. A neat footnote in the history of racing in Ohio.

Found some pics of racing at Put-in-Bay in the early 1960s..they are having a vintage sports car race event next month, may go to that.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine buying a vehicle without actually seeing it in person or test driving it. When I bought my CPO JGC in 2017, I did a bunch of research online and checked the inventories of the various dealers around Phoenix and zeroed in on a specific vehicle that had the right equipment/mileage/price combo that I was looking for. Didn't seriously consider any other brands. Then I went to the dealer on a Friday afternoon and asked to see and test drive that specific vehicle. I was time bound in some sense in that I was in the midst of moving to Ohio and my old Jeep was dying, so I moved pretty quickly. A lot of people buy used cars on eBay and other sites and have them shipped to them, haven't tried that yet, not sure if I would.

I do kind of miss some aspects of the pre-internet era as far as cars in that new cars were released usually around the same time every year... and the magazines would always have their new car issues which were full of surprises..always looked forward to Car & Driver's annual 'Charting the Changes' issue. Today with new car announcements year round and online it's all pretty predicable and nothing is a surprise...

My local FCA dealer remodeled their waiting room in the last year..it's pretty decent now, adjacent to the showroom w/ a nice coffee machine and tvs. The previous one looked like it was left over from the 70s--was right next to the service bays and service counter and very loud w/ grubby carpeting. When I went in for an oil change, mirror replacement and other maintenance in June I camped out a few hours w/ my laptop and worked and it was fine.
