Toyota News: Toyota Introduces Camry and Avalon with All-Wheel Drive
Robert Hall replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Toyota
For the 4dr Grands Prix, I liked the looks of the '97-03 generation...great roofline w/ slim pillars, none of the cheesy cladding. -
I generally don't like Ford truck styling since 1997, but this DDR Concepts Lightning is sweet...I like the cleaned up front end.
-
There is a weirdly modified Custom Cruiser of that era around here I see occasionally...black, with a padded top covering the back side windows, dark window tint, blue headlights, custom wheels and big tires, very loud exhaust, big hood scoop...

I had a fun Aunt, one of my Dad's sisters...never had kids, married 3 times. A really nice lady. She always drove Buicks..

^ 1965 was a very good year for GM styling across the board..

Toyota News: Toyota Introduces Camry and Avalon with All-Wheel Drive

Then they are screwed for their short-sightedness. Basically Ford, GM and FCA are giving the mainstream FWD sedan market in the US to the Japanese and Korean companies. Incompetence and short-term thinking because of the current CUV fad. Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia aren't getting out of the mainstream sedan market and will own it in NA. Then again, incompetence and short-term thinking is nothing new for the Detroit automakers.... -

I think that is the path they are on...Chevy is going to be all CUVs, SUVs and trucks with the Corvette and maybe a small hatchback or two (Sonic?). Buick will be all CUV, leaving only Cadillac w/ a few sedans. They've given up on mainstream sedans, just as Ford has. -
Pretty much the same size as the Renegade that it shares a platform with. And it's already been here for a few years, this is just an update.

It's not a crossover or luxury sedan, though, so GM isn't going to put any effort into it or update it...not enough profit in bread-and-butter sedans for GM anymore. -

I wonder if there will even be a next gen Malibu.. -
I like sleek, fastback shapes..if they have hatchbacks....not a fan of tiny mail slot trunk openings. If you can't fit a standard 12x12 box through the trunklid opening, then the usefulness of the trunk is limited... driving mostly hatchback SUVs and hatchback coupes most of my life has made me jaded about sedan trunks. About the only sedan I drove regularly that had a reasonably big trunk was the DTS..that was nice.

I haven't put mine up on Indeed, been mostly using Dice and Linkedin over the last decade+. But I get job postings emailed from Indeed.. Dealing w/ recruiters gets pretty tedious because so many have no comprehension of geography. Just because I live in Ohio doesn't mean I'm interested in gigs in Columbus or Cincinnati. And I still get Arizona job postings, though I haven't lived there in 2+ years...

As far as seafood, I love shrimp, jumbo shrimp, clams, oysters, mussels, scallops, tilapia, walleye (a Lake Erie speciality), lobster, salmon, cod, cobia... I love surf & turf and seafood pastas and soups like bouilebasse.. Maybe living in the Florida Keys as a teenager shaped my taste. I love sushi occasionally also Three of my absolute favorite restaurants are all seafood-centric places...The Moorings in Newport, R.I.; Poseidon in Del Mar, Ca; and Pier W here in Lakewood, Oh. Phoenix wasn't exactly known for seafood, but I liked Mastro's Ocean Club in Scottsdale.

That detail and the C-pillar quarter window shape kind of remind me of the MXZ.

I'm trying to avoid fried anything as much as I can. For fish close to home (literally less than 2 miles) I go to Bonefish Grill, albeit a chain but w/ pretty tasty food. There are several excellent local seafood places I frequent when I want something different...but so many have fried items.

I can't see that flying in NE Ohio..still a pretty strongly unionized region, albeit in much smaller numbers than it once was.- 21 replies

Haven't eaten at a Long John Silvers in maybe 15 years..pretty bad IIRC. A random eating experience I do miss, though...I miss having an IKEA nearby...I used to go to the one in Chandler, AZ periodically for lunch or breakfast.. tasty. Never been a Costco shopper, with Amazon I rarely need big box retailers.

That's a '74 Firebird Formula. My brother had a dark blue '74 Firebird Formula 400 back in the late 70s with a white and blue interior. Here's a '75...much the same, but they moved the turn signals to the grille and went to a wrap around rear window.

The shape is quite similar, similar to the Malibu also. All 6 window fastback midsize sedans w short rear decks. The differences are in the details. I kind of like what Hyundai and Kia have been doing lately on their new models w/ the lighting details and bright trim..the Sonata is very distinctive, and this car appears to be also..
-
Looks good...the Stinger would look good w/ a front end like that.
-
So? It's still marketing. Automakers choose model names that they think will work in a specific market or multiple markets and fit the product image.
-
That's the company name and brand name. Talking about model names here.
-
It is marketing. Wouldn’t make sense for Hyundai to name a CUV after a Korean mountain range and sell it in the US with that name...
-
Well, with some vehicles it's a marketing thing to evoke adventure or travel, Old West mythos is popular...Hyundai with Santa Fe, Sedona, Tucson, KIA with Telluride, etc... no different than Jeep with Renegade, Rubicon, Laredo, etc.
