  1. Those were just plastic appiques, though, right? Not actual changes to the sheetmetal (other than the front fenders and hood, I believe all 3 had the same metal).
  2. The IRS is a big improvement, Ford/Lincoln did it 12 years ago on the Expy/Nav...GM was being lazy with the old school solid axle...going to an IRS should improve the ride and lower the rear floor for more cargo and 3rd row legroom...
  3. If GM was interested in making the Escalade a unique luxury vehicle, it should share no side body panels with Chevy and GMC and have it's own unique styling...but they are too cheap to invest the coin to do that. Oddly, they do give the XT* Cadillac CUVs unique bodies compared to related Chevy/Buick/GM models---the XT6 doesn't resemble the Traverse or Acadia. There is nothing really wrong w/ the Escalade as it turned out, but it's still obviously a Chevy/GMC SUV with a different nose and added bling.
  4. There is a slight resemblance, but I bet the panels are all different...
  5. $36k for a subcompact w/ a 3-cyl. That's pretty effed up...
  6. That seems to be the case... the front doesn't bother me as much as the bad C-pillar trim...but bad C-pillar trim is becoming a Cadillac thing, look at the CT5.
  7. The problem w/ trying to compare to European makers is that MB and BMW have single brands, so they don't have the kind of multibrand reality GM has with Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac. However, consider VWAG--similar to GM in that they have a multi brand structure. They do have multiple brands, and they do have several large SUVs---consider the Touareg, Cayenne, Q7, Bentayga and Urus---5 different brands, all share the same platform (MLBevo) and have similar dimensions, but are very differentiated in styling. GM doesn't have that much differentiation styling wise between Tahoe,/Suburban Yukon, and Escalade...
  8. Dream on. The side profile of the SWB Escalade is nearly identical to the Tahoe and Yukon. The ESV has different C-pillar trim, but is nearly identical to the Suburban and Yukon XL in profile.
  9. Not really, though. There is little resemblance in styling between the XT4, XT5, XT6 and Escalade beyond some front and rear details between some models.
  10. Invalid comparison. Each of those are examples of different models within the same brand. GM has multiple brands. A Cadillac shouldn’t look like a Chevy or GMC.
  11. The mid 2000s models had almost no differentiation along the sides, except for the plastic lower trim, running boards and wheels that I can see.. if you hide the front ends, they all look pretty much the same...
  12. I realize Cadillac wanted to differentiate the side profile from it's 'lesser brand' siblings, but this C-pillar trim is just weak sauce, something whipped up in 10 minutes with no thought, IMO.
  13. The Yukon XL does the C-pillar trim in much better way, just a bit of bright work, no fake window plastic crud. Likewise for the Suburban..tastefully executed trim.
  14. Yeah...I don't think that is a black metal painted pillar, I think it's black plastic crud like GM puts on so many cars and CUVs/SUVs (Cruze, XT4, CT5, etc). A solid bright trim piece on the pillar would look much better, IMO---either covering the whole pillar or just behind the door opening with the rest of the pillar in body colored metal. Either put a window in the C-pillar or not, fake black plastic crud is just tasteless and cheap looking.... It's noticeably bad on a light colored vehicle..just nasty.
  15. Gak...that's the first of the ESV's I've seen in profile...my previous C-pillar comments were about the SWB model. That C-pillar trim is really bad on the ESV---typical GM fake quarter window black plastic trim behind the door..ugh. Just pointless... The nose is so flat it looks like it has no bumper in profile...same issue with the new Tahoe and Yukon.
  16. Well, the Tesla's front end is bland and uninspired....can't really compare. And the best thing about the nose is you can't see it from the driver's seat.
  17. I've never been a 4 cyl fan, but the 1.4 turbo in the Trax continues to surprise me. Very quiet at idle, and pretty smooth at highway speeds. w/ the 6spd auto I cruised at 70-80 all day, enough power to pass slow trucks in the mountains of VA & WV.....
  18. Odd...I wonder how GM's 3 cyl as seen in the new TB and EncyGX compares to the various 4 cyls in other subcompact/compact GM models... I do wonder why GM would use a 3 cyl for models in the US when they already have many small 4cyls available, other than rampant cheapassery.
  19. Yeah, it does...and the thumb recesses at 10 and 12...definitely not bad...definitely worlds better than olden days of huge steering wheels w/ thin, hard rims..
  20. I was able to adjust the seat and everything to be reasonably comfortable in the Trax...first 1000+ mile trip I've done in a 4cyl vehicle in probably 30 years. The biggest annoyance was the relatively hard steering wheel, my hands got sore gripping it after a while..
  21. On the Florida to Ohio road trip this past weekend I would fill up at 1/2 tank. The Trax has a small gas tank and gets good mileage, so refilling at the half mark was a good time to stop and get out.. For February, I lucked out with good weather most of the trip, other than the 1st 200 miles in FL which was heavy rain Friday night...
  22. I read somewhere that automakers are moving to smaller light clusters instead of larger clusters that wrap over the top of the corners for pedestrian injury regs. (Plastic light clusters can crack on impact rather than bend like metal). Don’t know if that is at work here, but though it was an interesting point.
  23. To me the front looks way too similar to the XT6. Maybe too subtle. So the black out trim is called the Sport trim. On the FB critics are calling the white one w/ Sport trim the Stormtrooper helmet face. I think the C-pillar trim would look better without the black insert behind the door opening. Just a solid piece of bright trim (or black on the Sport) over the C-pillar would be cleaner, IMO. I know that the wagon form factor results in a lot of CUVs/SUVs looking similar in some aspects, but I see a lot of Equinox in the rear door upper and some Traverse...which is fine for the Tahoe. I would have thought the Escalade SWB could have had it's own rear door upper shape/window opening to match the LWB version. I guess too expensive... In the interior, I like the 'normal' shifter, leaving push button shift to GMC? Love how the screens are integrated.
  24. I'm sure I'll like the exterior once I see it in person. White w/ blacked out trim is always tacky, IMO. But in that brown/gold/whatever with the bright trim, it looks classy. Love the interior. Looks it would make a great daily driver and road trip vehicle.
  25. Maybe they staggered the release on the website by time zone to keep from crashing the servers if they had a lot of traffic... The C-pillar trim and rear door upper seems a bit busy. Too many slanted vertical cut lines.
