  1. Looks good..strong family resembalance to the IS. Doesn't seem to have the usual awkward FWD front proportions either...
  2. Looks like all-new metal. Dodge should do an SRT5 version of theirs..
  3. Build it, and customers will buy.
  4. Yes..the appeal is all about the total package...handling, steering feel, braking.. at least that's the appeal of my old E36 M3 to me.. acceleration is ok, but I'm not into drag racing. Anyhoo, the new ES looks like it will be a nice entry-lux daily driver type of car.. not exactly my cup of tea, but quite good at what it does...if I were going for a FWD daily driver, though, my preference would be a TL with the 6-speed manual (sportier but still well-equipped).
  5. Yes, KFC got rid of the 'Kentucky Fried Chicken' name years ago....because they do more than fried chicken. I work in a world full of TLAs (three-letter-acronyms) so I use them everyday (JMS, JSP, RMI, SLA, SOA, EJB, EBF, JGC, EDI, and many four- and five-letter ones..)
  6. 'My bad'. I don't know it's origin..but it's annoying.
  7. To use another analogy, GM is kind of like the underachieving student content to limp along with Bs and Cs---being average when they are capable of better, and complaining about the other kids who are consistently getting As. GM has built waaaay too many C (and even D) grade cars..they are certainly capable of building A grade cars, but seem not to want to go the extra mile often enough to build them...
  8. I saw a black one parked on the street in a town up in the mountains Saturday.. they really stand out in dark colors...looked great. I disagree with Car & Driver's view that it looks like a '90s Camry...if it resembles any other car, it's the 2006 Passat somewhat, as far as the C-pillar and tail treatment go.
  9. Yes, there is definitely a double standard... too many people on here have drunk the GM Kool-Aid and can't rationally, objectively view other brands.
  10. The truth will set you free.... don't be hatin'...it's a lousy way to go through life. I have to laugh how people rag on Lexus for being a premium Toyota---well, isn't Cadillac a premium GM? Touche.
  11. A G6 SportCombi would be nice... It's strange that the only midsize wagon GM offers in the US is in a brand not known for midsize wagons (Saab). (I don't count the Maxx as it is more of a 5dr hatch than a wagon).
  12. Yes, it's great that GM has world-class performance cars, luxury cars, and full-size SUVs, but where they come up short is the volume market...I'm afraid FWD sedans with average interiors, pushrod V6s and 4spd automatics just aren't competitive beyond the rental car lots... it's not 1996 anymore.
  13. Add to that the Lexus has a 6-spd automatic compared to Buick's 4-spd...
  14. Since a hybrid Camry is coming, can a hybrid ES be far behind...one more advertising talking point...
  15. Yes...61% of total output going to retail seems pretty low considering GM's production volumes.
  16. That description could fit a lot of places... the first description here of my city is pretty good (a bit boosterish, though..sounds like it was written by the chamber of commerce) ..the 3rd is lame. My current 'hood is described here, and the suburb I'm thinking of buying a house in is described here (in less than glowing terms, LOL)...
  17. I don't know...her facial expression looks either sad or bored..doesn't seem excited. What I'm wondering are where are the mullets ??
  18. Speaking of badges, I think Buick should have kept the colors instead of gone to monochrome on the tri-shield emblem. Anyone remember when Pontiac V crests weren't red?
  19. Ford did the block lettering thing for years..up until around 1982. Been there, done that.
  20. I don't think it looks remotely dated...it's a Ford tradition.
  21. Ewwww...$h! like that is enough for me to become vegetabletarian. Hmm...I had BBQ ribs tonight for dinner..tasty. I just have to keep telling myself that beef, pork and chicken are vegetables.
  22. I like they 'Beyond Precision' part...something about 'Not Beyond Your Reach' has a negative vibe to me..
  23. There was a Simpsons episode or two in the early '90s that referenced it... it's something to do with '80s B-movie actors Corey Feldman and Corey Someoneelse.
  24. Looks don't matter in this instance: 'saab-sourcing' ABSOLUTELY will be noticed by the media, and it's reporting would be a distinct detriment. No swedish-engineered Cadillacs- there's no advantage to it whatsoever. I don't see 'Saab-sourcing' as a detriment..it's all GM however you look at it. As far as the media, they don't seem to make a big deal out of the Lexus ES being based on a Toyota... or the Infiniti G35 sharing a platform and engine with the Nissan Z...etc etc etc.
  25. Exactly... a common set of styling cues across a range of models..standard practice in luxury business.... Cadillac does it... M-B does it... BMW does it, with more variation than they used to, though. It's interesting how Lexus is following the M-B pattern fairly closely--the small sedan and big sedan have a strong similiarity (new IS, new LS; C-class, previous S-class) with the middle sedan varying more from the theme (GS and E-class). (I'm not counting the ES). The mistake Cadillac made is that the CTS and STS look too much alike and are too close in size, IMHO... I keep mistaking STSes for CTSes from a distance.
