  1. True enough...going from something that is rental car material (Alero) to something that is the best in it's class (3-series) is a huge jump. My mother is 75 and bought herself a Lincoln Navigator for her birthday... though I'm a BMW fan and owner, I didn't try steering her into one.. I see nothing wrong with an older person buying a modern sports sedan, though...why should older folks only drive stereotypical fogey cars like DTSes, Town Cars or Buicks? They can enjoy the good stuff also... Speaking of her son's generation which is my generation (Gen X, mid to late 30s)----I can count on one hand the number of people I know in my age range and demographic that actually like domestic cars or own them....pretty much all of my peers drive Hondas, Toyotas, Acuras, BMWs, Audis, Lexuses and would never consider domestic... sad, but true. About the only domestics that I know people owning are SUVs and a few Mustangs.
  2. That's an old photo of a VE Commodore prototype out testing..probably from last year..the information is old in the article--it says 'Of course, Holden will have its own editions as well, to replace the big Commodore and Statesman sedans' which is dated, since the VE is already out..
  3. I really like the Trailhawk...not sure about the Nassau...I like the front, but...
  4. I'm assuming the LaCrosse will move to Epsilon when the Dubyas finally go to the great junkyard in the sky...
  5. Yes... I can relate...I didn't have an Olds myself, but friends did in high school..back in the big '80s, one of my best friends had a hand-me-down '81 Delta 88 4dr with a diesel and the red velour interior..sunroof., tape deck..I remember many times riding around with 6 or more high school students crammed in it...listening to the Cure, Dead Kennedys, the Clash, Van Halen, Def Leppard...tearing around Marathon, Florida, out to the beach, down to Key West, up to Miami a few times to hang out at Cutler Ridge mall.....another friend had a pale blue '77 88, and another had a gold (with brown velour interior) '83 Cutlass Supreme, another a silver w/ silver leather interior Caddy Fleetwood Brougham with Olds diesel engine. My girlfriend drove her dad's '85 Caprice wagon, another girl I hung out with drove an '83 Parissiene. All with whitewall tires and wire wheel covers, IIRC.. Those cars were as much a part of my high school culture and the times as were Mustang 5.0s, Camaro IROC-Zs, and Trans AM GTAs.. Good times...long ago and far away, when I still had hair and weighed 150 lbs..
  6. I assume the plate will be right in the center...attached to the spar below the second grille. Also remember GM will have 4 Epsilons by '09 or so to compete against the Accord and Camry..rather than just the Malibu, it's will be Malibu, G6, Aura, and Buick Epsilon against the world...
  7. It's 2.15 for 85 here in Denver...I figure it will be back to 2.75 or more by summer..
  8. Makes sense....you have two classes of hybrid buyers--those that are openly green and would buy a Prius or Insight, and those that are closeted who would buy a Camry, Civic, Escape hybrid. A Lexus edition Prius with a full-lux interior would be good.
  9. A coworker of mine has driven through plenty of Colorado snow storms in his Prius... no reason it wouldn't be as drivable as any other compact.
  10. Most Americans don't/can't drive a manual transmission, that's why so few are offered.
  11. Exactly..that's why I won't keep a modern car past 100k miles. 8-9 years is more than long enough for me to keep a car..(my old cars are pretty simple by comparison and are only driven a few thousand miles a year). With my next new car purchase, I'll probably go to a 4-5 year trade cycle.
  12. A turbo diesel option for 30+ mpg would be nice.
  13. They don't need to put the 'K' in kwality again, but the Omni/Horizon instead...a modern version of the Omni/Horizon is what Dodge needs in a subcompact, IMHO...
  14. With this car getting the 3.6 as the only available V6, I wonder if the G6 will be the same way by '08 (dump the 3.5 and 3.9).
  15. Yes, people forget this is not a market segment that sells on styling..it sells on value, features, reliability, quality, word of mouth..styling is the least of the concerns of Camry/Accord buyers...
  16. One would think so...I'm surprised they haven't done a Corolla or Yaris hybrid yet. Or a truck hybrid.
  17. Looks good overall...clean and contemporary.... a big improvement over the current model, and the first Chevy sedan in ages that doesn't scream 'rental car', IMHO.. I like the way the wood trim in done inside.
  18. Works for me...I'm a technophile---I love gadgets, esp. useful ones...working in the tech industry, I'm always interested in products and technologies that push things forward..... I'm not interested in staying in the past.
  19. Yawn..just an old truck..does nothing for me.
  20. It has very little in common with the Corvette...just some dirty bits underneath.
  21. 'Rogue' would be better as a Jeep name...surprised Chrysler didn't trademark it, since it is an old AMC name (from the Rambler Rogue ht in the '60s).
  22. The Escalade is just a tarted up Tahoe.. it's hardly a flagship. If Cadillac has a flagship, it's the XLR.
  23. It's hideous..did Toyota hire former Pontiac (Aztek) designers? Ugh...
  24. The cars are one of things I've really enjoyed about watching the 'Rockford Files' box sets.. all those '70s cars. It was my favorite show as a kid, my dad and I used to watch it together in the late '70s.
  25. Ford was the first president I can remember seeing on TV as a kid...I've been to the Ford Library at the U of Michigan, he was an alumnus of my school.. seems like he was a decent guy, and he spent a lot of time and owned a home here in my adopted state of Colorado.
