  1. I cant really complain about my Equinox. Parents like theirs also. Though they havent been perfect. They have had some of the 1st year bugs that sometimes come with a brand new vehicles. But they were handled nicely and I know if I got a replacement that it wouldnt have some of that stuff. We love the room and the features it has.
  2. It seems like they are slowly killing the Monte Carlo bit by bit. Cheapening it little by little. Kind of like the death by a thousand cuts. Its really a shame because it could really be something with the new additions and if they had never taken anything away. I have never seen a car die like this.
  3. I heard that it is gone for 2008. Heck, they cheapened it some mor for 2007 with getting rid of the middle engine. The one I would get if I was getting one. I know too that everyone likes to think about the "good old days" but the truth is that the good old days werent always so good. Chicagoland is right. A lot of the old ones werent as great as people make them out to be. I liked my 2000 in the time I had it and one of the things I liked about it was how well it handled snow. The new SS with the 5.3 liter V8 will run circles around any old one that isnt modified. The best figure I see for the famed 1980's SS is 0-60 in the mid 8's. Heck, the 3.9 liter Monte Carlo can likely match that let alone the 5.3 liter V8 at what? about 5.5-6.0? We like to remember the old days but we need to be realistic.
  4. I am split between an HHR or another Equinox in 2009 when my lease comes up.
  5. Fall is just starting here though it is cooling off a bit sooner than normal. Usually the cooloff starts in early October but it has started now.
  6. Sounds like a cool thing. I would maybe think about one if I was in the market. Maybe in early 2009 when my lease runs out on the Equinox. I will be looking at either another Equinox or a HHR. Depends on a few factors. Gas prices being a large factor.
  7. My Bonneville is pretty wide by todays cars standards. Dont know how wide but wider than my Equinox by quite a lot.
  8. The shifts in the '81 Bonneville can sometimes be a bit rough but I was told its normal. The rebuild helped but it still does it. I have to agree though that there isnt really a need for more than 6 speeds. Any more and you might as well go to a CVT.
  9. Dare I say the GM looks more upscale. LCD is kind of old school.
  10. Sunday we are having a cookout. Other than that nothing exciting which is ok. Maybe go through the '81 clean it, check everything, I think I need to tighten a radiator hose too.
  11. We will try to get what we can.
  12. I also live in a nice older house. Have lived here since 1978. Just found out on July 5th that the state is buying the house and tearing it down to make way for a right turn lane(I live on a busy corner and trucks have a very hard time with it). We have practiclly rebuilt it, put a nice 3-car garage and a 12 by 12 feet shed. All the house was needing was some new windows. Otherwise it is practiclly like new. Our hope now is to get something new since finding anything used with the things we have is nearly inpossible. Only bad thing is the lot is not the greatest. We live on a hill and cutting it is a pain.
  13. I use Opera for 99 percent of my internet surfing. A lot fewer problems with that than IE.
  14. My sister had a 1979 2-door S/E/. It did have the slant six. I thought it was a fairly classy car with the half vinyl rood and the opera windows.
  15. Jeez, where to start. 1969-70 Bel-Air. 1971-76 Impala or Caprice. 1977-79 Impala. 1980-84 Caprice. 1985-90 Caprice. 1994-96 Caprice. 1980-84 Citation.(3 door hatch with V6.) 1978-80 Monte Carlo. 1978-80 Malibu. 1978 Camaro Z-28. 1968-74 Nova(4-door). I had to be different. 2006 Monte Carlo. 3.9 liter V6 would be fine. 2005-2006 Equinox.( I love mine). 2006 HHR. 1976-79 Dodge Aspen. 1980-84 Buick Park Avenue. 1987 Buick Grand National. 1979 Buick Riviera. 1989-92 Cadillac Brugham. 1981 Bonneville( Maybe I am a little biased). 2004-2006 GTO. There are more and if and when there is time I will add them.
  16. I am much the same person I was as a kid. I only have a very few friends. I spend most of my free time just hanging out in my room just like I did as a kid. I dont get too involved with my co-workers. Just on a professional level. I dont like being around a lot of people. It makes me nervous when there are too many people close to me. I am better now though than I used to be now that I have my thyroid medicine. You wouldnt believe how hypothyroidism can affect your life.
  17. Definatly check the trunk light. I had that problem on my Bonneville. Couldnt figure out the fact that if I drove it every day it worked fine but leave it sit for a week then it was stone dead. I replaced the battery, rebuilt the alternator and a few other things. All it needed was a $12 trunk light switch.
  18. Amen. This is a very hard lesson to learn. Luckily, with my surgeries, I've learned it a few times ... heh ... sadly, I haven't completely learned the lesson in some cases . And, capriceman, received it, thank ya . I sent you a PM back ... didn't have time for a long response, as I need to get to bed sooner rather than later tonight due to the upcoming road trip. 178277[/snapback]
  19. I have to sometime get my 4 wisdoms pulled. They all came up straight though which hopefully will make it a bit easier. Has a filling come loose though and expose the nerve. That is a pain like no other. Laying down was impossible since that only made the pain worse. Tried whiskey on it and that helped somewhat so I could sleep a bit better. One of the only times I was happy to go to the dentist. And I like my dentist. Great person but nobody likes getting their teeth messed with. When it comes time for the wisdom tooth removal they are putting me to sleep. I dont even want to know what they are doing.
  20. Cort I know all too well what you are talking about. I am a very introverted person for all my life not getting involved in anything or doing very much with people. It is sometimes hard being a single person in a world where as Cort said, where it is designed for couples. Single people dont seem to count or matter most of the time in this world. When you go out with friends at our age they usually have their girlfriends or wives with them leaving you to be the oddball. I agree too that the Monte Carlos are one of the great cars ever made and Cort deserves great credit in keeping his that way he does. A keeper of the flame. I am a lot better now though with my thyroid medication. I at least can communicate with people and have a bit of intrest in them. Though there is still a ways to go. I too have some friends that I was close to that I now wonder what they are doing. One I thought was my life partner but turned out in the end we just didnt have it. Now she is happy and has 2 kids. I think about that sometimes. With women if I didnt have bad luck I wouldnt have any luck at all.
  21. Italian food, Gm products of all kinds. More specificlly though the 1977-90 B-bodies. Women(Just wish they would pay attention to me for once in my life. I hate always being ignored). Doritos,Nacho cheese. Used to live on Pepsi but cant anymore with having borderline diabetes. Oh well I have gotten quite used to filtered water since I really dont like diet soda. Also there is something about Culvers double cheeseburgers that is just soo good. Broasted chicken from the Darboy Club or Romys Nightengale or Marys Family Restauraunt is another of my guilty pleasures.
  22. Sucks having to try to find parts for an old car. I cant even find a parking brake release cable for the 1981 Bonneville. Went to pull it to release the brake and ended up with it in my hand.
  23. For most people there isnt really a difference. I am in the camp that FWD is better in snow than RWD. Though I am sure with todays advances it could possibly be made to address the snow issue. But you still have the inefficiency in the RWD setup not to mention the space it takes up. Dont get me wrong, I like the Bonneville better than anything else in the world in most ways, but I can also admit its inadequesies one of which is it is not as nice in snow as my 200 Monte Carlo or my Equinox. And yes it has a large trunk but the RWD stuff means the spare cant be hidden under the floor like it can in a FWD one. And thats very important to most people.
  24. I actually get good comments about the Bonneville because of its condition. When the one or 2 people say something about the fuel economy I say that may be true but will your car make it 265 years and still be running like new?
