  1. Not a clue Knightfan. Of course you wouldnt guess mine either. The RWD midsizers are nice too.
  2. Where should I start? Mom yelling up the stairs because she wants something. Thunder at about 4 in the morning. Police sirens. Worst though was the morning Dad was so sick and Mom needed me to help him and get him to the hospital 3 days before he died.
  3. There used to be a lot of these around here. Now that I think about it , I cant remember the last time I saw one.
  4. I will keep my 1985. I know what it is and what it needs which is very little.
  5. Once they changed the Caprice for 1991 jmy dad wouldnt buy one either. Thats why he kept the 1985 in the shape its in now. I didnt mind the 1991-96 one so much after they redid the rear end for 1993. As you all can tell I am a fan of the 1977-90 B-bodies. That 1985 Diesel sounds like a cool deal for the right person. I would rather have what I have in mine. The 305 V8 with the 4-barrel carburetor. With the exception of a few scratches on the climate control panel where somebody had long fingernails mine is in nearly the same shape this one is. Well...... Mine has 117,000 miles but still it is in nearly the same shape.
  6. Walk the trails here. Drive the 1985 Caprice and 1981 Bonneville
  7. I think my Dad would want me to continue to do that. Just like keeping his 1985 Caprice. And his model cars and lava lights. Got to keep the memories of your loved ones alive.
  8. I know too much about funerals. After my Dads on June 11th I am not in the mood to deal with it either. At 60 years old he wastoo young to go. And the suddenness of it is a hard thing to deal with. Not to mention his and Moms new house is being built because the state is tearing ours down. But enough about that. I realixe that sooner or later my 86 year old Grandma will leave this earth and I will have that to deal with. I was pretty good with my dad but I still wonder if there was more that could have been done or said? He and I enjoyed the Chicago Auto Show the last 3 years we went. I valued that time VERY much and even moreso now. I will still go for my interest and to keep the tradition going but it wont be the same. Take time out to tell someone you love them. One never knows when they wont be here to tell. I found that out June 7th when Dad died at home.
  9. That happened to me 10 years ago in my 1979 Impala. A Ford F-150 decided to rear end me. My drivers seat looked like yours does. Lucky though the way that car was made I still drove it home. The frame after the left rear door was bent and there was a little kink in the leaft rear wheel well. It came within $12 of being totalled. I would bet yours is totalled. Go to the doctor ASAP!!!!! Make sure about your health. Insurance will pay the doctor bill. I had a bit of a sore neck but otherwise was fine. Did I mention I was standing still and the guy hit me doing about 30 miles an hour?
  10. How did you like the Cobalt? I know I have to get the Caprice to the shop. Seems the A/C has decided to not want to work. Or once in the while it works when it wants to. If dad were alive that would be done already. I will see tommorrow about getting it in. It does have R-134 so it shouldnt be too bad.
  11. I am going through that myself with some things in my life.
  12. Sometimes I feel that way about the 81 Bonneville and may sometimes about the 1985 Caprice but I wont give up on them just yet. Yes these arent 60s cars but they have their share of things that can go wrong. Luckily the transmissions on both are fairly new and the engines on both are in real good shape.
  13. My 4th of July wasnt bad. I celebrated at my sisters house with my family with the usual brats, hamburgers, potato salad, etc. It was pretty warm though but still fun. On a somber note it is the first 4th of July without my dad after dying from very quick cancer. So part of it was to celebrate his life and the things he loved about the 4th. Barbequing in his Holland grill which is now my sisters because Mom and I dont need that big grill, fireworks, and just good conversation. It was very strange without him as he did a lot of the stuff. But we made it.
  14. Pretty normal though getting used to my dad not being here is very hard. So sometimes I think about him quite a bit. Being as I live with my parents this is even harder since I have seen him nearly every day of my life. I guess I should be greatful that for having cancer he didnt suffer long. Ok, enough about that.
  15. I hold back quite a lot. People seem to have lots of opinions about how people should act in certain situations. With my dads death I have people telling me to be strong and take care of buisness. Then some say to let it out and express my feelings. Most times I just keep pretty quiet about how I feel about this.
  16. When I went to drive Mom and Dads 1985 Caprice I ended up having to jump it with the Bonneville to get it going. It didnt seem as weird as I thought driving it for the first time since Dad died June 7th. Mom may drive it around town a little bit but I will likely drive it for the most part. I couldnt sell it with how much it meant to my Dad and even myself. We will keep it and I will try my damndest to take care of it the way Dad did though that is a VERY high standard to live up to. I think it may need a new battery and Dad was thinking about an antifreeze flush before he got sick so I may see about that. Other than that it is in nearly perfect shape with 117,000 miles. Cort I believe know what it looks like from some pictures.
  17. This is the first Fathers Day without my dad. He died June 7th after a short bout with liver cancer. Its going to seem funny to not have him here. Enough about that. Have a good Fathers Day dads.
  18. I have driven a few of the Chevy trucks with the 5.3 and a 2500 long wheelbase van with the 6.0 liter. That van in spite of how heavy it was MOVED. The 5.3 is ok but the 6.0 liter in that van moved it to another dimension. So the choice comes dow to how much performance do you need?
  19. Thanks ZL-1. I guess wht makes this so hard it that it was so unexpected and that he wasnt really that old to have this happen to him. He knew though what was going on and that he was going to die. He excepted it and said he was ready to go be with God. Still he was too young and had too much to look forward to to have this happen now. Sorry Knightfan for hijacking your thread. But it kind of fit.
  20. Thank you all. He was 60 years old.
  21. Thank you all. It really means a lot to me. This death was totally unexpected. There were 2 large masses on his liver and some nodules on his lungs and one on his intestine. He thought the lump was from falling and cracking a rib and that it just didnt heal properly. I guess I should be thankful he didnt suffer too much before he died, only really for about 3 weeks. I am going to do everything I can to keep the Caprice. I guess the cancer he had is so fast spreading that most of the time it doesnt get caught until it is too late. And from what I was told liver cancer is very rare here in the U.S. Just when my Mom and Dad are in the process of building their new house this has to happen. I know the Lord has a reason for everything and there is a reason for everything to happen but why doesnt that make me feel better right now? I wont have anyone to go to the Chicago Auto Show with either. My dad lived for that.
  22. I know I have to get the ambition to go and drive my Dads 1985 Caprice one of these days. He died 2 days ago and my Mom doesnt drive though she is thinking about getting into it just a little bit. I think I will cry the first time I drive it because my Dad liked that car more than anything else in his life. Though he liked his Equinox too that is on lease. We have to see if we can turn that in. It will be kind of painful but it has to be done.
  23. Oh you want the ones I did own too. Well 1981 Caprice 2-door 229 V6. 1979 Impala 305 V8. 2000 Monte Carlo LS 3400 V6. Current ones just to keep the story straight. 2005 Equinox 3400 V6 1981 Bonneville 307 V8. Should I count the 1976-77 Bolens lwnmower with the Tecumseh engine? Ok Lets not. For the car total we are at 34 cylinders. I dont buy and sell that much. I keep my vehicles for a long time, Unless they are leased like the Equinox is.
  24. Mine 1981 Bonneville. Olds 307 V8 2005 Equinox. 3400 V6 making for a grand total of 14.
  25. Mine was a brand new 1992 Plymouth Acclaim
