  1. Impala coupe?
  2. I know what it is to be the one everybody picks on. I was viewed as slow and someone that was easy to pick on. Things are better now but people still seem to look at me like I am wierd or something. Though I do fight back now as an adult. You learn to become VERY witty after a life of being picked on. Dont give up.
  3. Glad to hear it wasnt something with my computer.
  4. Again I suggest divesting yourself of this car and getting the Mazda fixed. Sell the Cutlass to someone who has the capability to fix it. You will be better off.
  5. Ford 500 (now the Tauraus). I liked it when I sat in it. Old car. I always had a thing for the 1977-79 Thunderbird.
  6. I always wondered if there was such a thing as a backlit keyboard. I would own one if I could get it at the right price.
  7. Viper if I was you I would seriously think about taking one of these peoples offer and get it off your hands and into somebody that can do something with it. If I had the space and didnt have 2 old ones of my own it would be a cool thing. Sell it and fix the Mazda. I would usually side with keeping the American car but in your case it would be better to fix the Mazda.
  8. Cool beans. I may look at one of these when the lease is up on the Equinox. And just maybe the 4- cylinder one may be enough. Though the V6 does offer excellent performance.
  9. Well Knightfan you do what you have to to help family in need. When it is all done I will get it washed and cleaned up to perfection. On the plus side it handles snow and winter weather better than I remember either of the last 2 RWDs I had. Still like my AWD Equinox though with ABS. But it didnt seem to want to swing around if I braked too hard and it didnt have trouble getting moving in 6 inches of snow. Maybe the brand new tires had something to do with it. Rode with a friend the has a 2wd Chevrolet pickup. That I would NOT want to deal with in winter.
  10. Sorry to hear your plight. I am currently using my 1981 Bonneville in the snow because my sister needed my Equinox. I dont like doing it at all but it has taken it in stride. It actually drives VERY well in the bad weather we have had. I wonder if it is overheating or if it just doesnt need a new radiator and hoses. Had that happen to me a few times on my old cars. GM radiators arent the top of the line on these. As much as I love my RWD GM's there are no doubts they were trying to make them as cheap as they could. So some of the parts are pretty cheap. Again blackviper, good luck in what you do. It may be time to cut your losses and get rid of it. Fix the Mazda in your case. Thats just a little friendly advice from a fellow 1980's GM lover.
  11. Wont be getting it back that soon. Though I can use moms 2007 Aveo tomorrow for what needs to be done. I guess its too late to worry about it right now. I'll just clean it really well when I get the Equinox back.
  12. I am feeling kind of bad about what I had to do with my 1981 Bonneville. My sister called and said her Venture wouldnt start and said she REALLY one of my vehicles to use. Thought about it and I lent her the Equinox. This meant though that I had to pick either the Bonneville or the Caprice to drive knowing it was going to snow last night and that we are getting a major winter storm. So I picked the Bonneville and it is now full of salt. Had no choice, my sister needed a vehicle and I had to do it. I have had the Bonneville for 9 years and it NEVER saw salt until today. I guess I will just have to wash it really well when I do get the Equinox back from my sister.
  13. Like I said thats how they did it then. Though the glove box on the 1985 is lockable. If the Bonneville would have had one it would be in the same place. Though the ones on these cars can only work if the ignition is on. I am pretty used to it though it is true they do place them better on this day and age. Moms on the 2007 Aveo being on the door is good. Still have to get used to releasing the gas cap on hers though. That one still gets me every now and then though it could keep somebody from siphoning gas out of it.
  14. Yeah the 1985 Caprice has the trunk release inside the glovebox.
  15. I inhereted my love for the B-bodies from my late father. Though I dont really do a lot of my own work on them I still think I am an enthusiest. I get excited to drive either of my 2 when I can.
  16. Maybe for him that might be a better choice. Still I guess dont understand why he spent the money to buy the Cutlass when that same amount likely could have bought the distributer for the Mazda. Much though as I like the old ones, I like having a new one to fall back on if the s--t hits the fan or we get a really severe spell in the winter. The Equinox is so much easier to deal with when it is -10 and/or snowing and blowing.
  17. Too bad. With the money that you spent so far on the Cutlass you could have fixed the Mazda. While I am much more of a fan of the Oldsmobile than the Mazda I can see where you are coming from. A word to the wise based on experience with older GM cars. Usually they are reliable in the fact that they will not let you down or strand you on the side of the road. But never buy one of these expecting to just drive it and not have to spend money on the things like an alternator, water pump, etc. Thats the lay of the land. I guess I do it both ways with having 2 old GMs and one new one. My plus with the 2 old ones is that I knew the history when I aquired them both and I knew that problems they were noted for. the 200-4R transmission that is on the Bonneville and your Cutlass is a bad one. I had mine rebuilt with 103,000 on it because it started buzzing and making strange noises. The 700-R4 in the Caprice is better but mine was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago. It is now at 118,000 miles. The engines are perfect in both. Good luck blackviper in whatever you do.
  18. I might look at one of these when the lease on the Equinox is done in March of 2009. It looks really good. And I didnt think my grandmothers 1999 was bad at all.
  19. Rental car? Why not take one of the Monte Carlos?
  20. I have had good luck with DVD players. Still have my Pioneer 5 disk changer that I bought in October 2000. Got my Pioneer DVD recorder that has done me well.
  21. Might want to replace the wiring to the starter anyway. And the alternator one too for the minimal cost. I had one car where I could not figure out why it would not start sometimes. Replaced the battery, alternator, wires LOOKED good. The operative word here is LOOKED good. There was corrosion inside one where you couldnt see it. Once that was replaced, no more problems.
  22. Pass. Even the best engines die when they arent taken care of. The dirty interior and the misfiring engine point to the car NOT being taken care of.
  23. HVAC is a good place to start. Had that problem on 1979 Impala. Couldnt figure it out. Dad figured it out after about a half hour. I dont think this car has vcuum advance. In 1981 and after most GM cars had computer controlled advance. Both my old ones have this. Good luck with this. By the way, is your choke closing when you press the throttle to set the choke? Next time you start it, set the choke but before you start it make sure it is closing. If it doesnt close that will make it difficult to start. Happened to me once on a car.
  24. I know about that. Somebody did that with my 1981 Bonneville. This person actually offered $5000 for it. I however am REAL good at knowing when to ignore people and act like I dont care what they are saying. I tell them the truth. I got it from my Grandma and that it isnt for sale.
  25. All older GM cars (At least the 4 I have dealt with you fill the transmission through the dipstick tube. Not so illogical. Use a funnel and pour a little at a time and you will be fine. Which engine-transmission does this car have?
