  1. Only trouble is doesnt the 1985 Caddie still have the troublesome 4100? I would pause about that. Other than that it looks good. Now if it was a 1986 with the Olds motor then sign me up.
  2. I am the same way now. Much as I like driving the B-bodies I wouldnt want to deal with them as my only drivers. Too much of a chance of it needing something especially in the middle of winter. Although the two old ones start pretty well in the winter cold I wouldnt want to place bets on it when its -20 and they have been sitting in an open parking lot for 8-10 hours. Plus I am going to say it again that while it is not impossible to get around with RWD(Easier than I thought in the case of the Bonneville) I still prefer my AWD Equinox or a FWD car. I also like some of the features on the new cars that the old ones dont have. Power windows are a VERY nice thing. Power locks are another. Better rust resistance is a huge advantage to the new versus old argument. Good luck to you Sixty-eight in your search for a car. Too bad I still didnt have the 1984 Buick Park Avenue that Dad and I worked on and sold when the niece decided she didnt want it. That thing ran like brand new. Too bad you sold the Caddie.
  3. This was certainly a year of cheers and jeers for me. People are likely tired of hearing this but here goes anyway. Cheers for my Dad and I spending time at the Chicago Auto Show in 2007. He was very impressed with the new Malibu and even was looking at the new Aveo as a replacement for my sisters tired 1995 Cavalier with 200,000 miles on it. Dad and I always enjoyed spending that time together. Cheers for getting a brand new house. August 15th we moved in and couldnt be happier with it. Havent had to call them back to fix anything. Cheers for my aqquiring a nearly showroom 1985 Chevrolet Caprice with 117,000 miles. Needs the A/C worked on and HIGH on the climate control doesnt work. Other than that it is nearly flawless with only a couple of little nicks. The inside other than a few marks on the climate control is like brand new. Jeers though for how I aqquired it. My Dad died June 7th after knowing he had liver-lung cancer for 1 week. He just didnt feel good and that was what they all found. He got to see the basement of the new house before he died. Why we got a new house brings us to another jeer. The City started negotiations to buy our old house in July 6th of 2006 because we lived on VERY busy corner where semis need to make the turn to go to the paper mill. They are redoing the road on 2008 and are making it 4 feet wider and maing a right turn lane right about where the house sat. We had just put new siding on it and a new bow window in the living room. New kitchen and bathroom floors and a lot of things. The house dated back to 1901. We looked at a few houses but didnt like what we saw. So we looked at a few new ones and found what we liked. Money wasnt a problem though the city gave us the bare minimun and didnt pay us for the 2nd mortgage taken out for the siding and window. Found a lot in March and work started in late April. Moved out of the old one August 21-24. I wont even get into the movers. Gave it up on August 31st but I told them I wanted to see it get torn down so I could have pictures. Before it got torn down though the 2 neighbors have nearly identical houses so we gave them the oppertunity to take stuff that would benefit them. The new siding, gave a friend the bow window in exchange for building the new shed at the new house. the other took the furnace and A/C and the front and back doors. Water heater, garage and shed. So I get a call from a friend on December 19th that our house is fully torn down. The city never told me they were going to do it. But I did get pictures of the rubble before they loaded it in the dumpster. Sorry this was way too long. It tells my year. I am looking forward to finishing the garage in the new one and getting a furnace in the garage. Also getting the yard done and a little finish work on the shed. and getiing the A/C on the 1985 fixed. And the fan switch. Getting the headlinder done on the Bonneville and if that A/C doesnt work.
  4. Happy new year to everybody. A lot happened this year for me good and bad. Hopefully 2008 is better. I am looking forward to doing more with my new house and getting the lawn and that stuff in. And of course doing more with the B-bodies.

I got a lego van though after being built as a 1986 model and being handled it needs a bit or restoration. Dont you hate it when you feel like you dont belong anywhere? Happens to me a lot. And I second that I hope 2008 is a far better year than 2007 was. Yes I got my new house with my Mom but I feel like I paid a huge price for it. Ans seeing the old one in a pile has brought out a lot of emotions that I didnt think existed.
  6. Thats the dumbest thing I ever heard of. Whoop-de-do. The Toyota won at something thats not important. Lets load the bed with a few thousands of pounds and see who does better. Or try towing about 10,000 pounds. Then we will wee who is the king.
  7. Seems like Chrysler is always having some problem or another. As long as I can remember. If it wasnt the poor bodies and interiors of the 1970's to nearly being bankrupt to the transmission problems to all the other things it has went through. GM may not be perfect but I will give them my money before Chrysler.
  8. True that. Had a 1979 Impala that was like your '87. It never failed to work no matter what. I did get lucky though. The Bonneville was more problematic but I found the carburetor was the cause. Once I got that taken care of it worked a lot better. I wonder though why the steering on that car gets so stiff when it gets cold? None of the other B-bodies including the Caprice do that.
  9. Thats why I dont like now to trust an older one as a daily driver in the winter months here. Sundays storm we got proved that to me. I was glad to have the Equinox that day. Moms Aveo would have been the 2nd choice to deal with that. And as for thr Charger, I just have trouble trusting Chryslers quality after a few peoples issues with them. Especially the 2.7 liter engine. And when you buy someone elses older car for winter you are taking a huge gamble that they took care of it and that it will work in severe conditions. The best of luck to you Cort in whatever you decide. I know you will do it the smart way.
  10. I dont have a cancel button on any of my cruise controls and dont miss it. I manage just fine with a tap on the brake.
  11. You are right about that Knightfan. People keep trying to get me to get rid of the Bonneville now that I have the Caprice. But I dont want to do that right now. I would like to try and keep it if possible. It doesnt need much. Mainly cosmetics and fixing the couple of water leaks it has. Yes I have 3 vehicles. The Equinox is good for the winter though so I can keep the other 2 in good shape. Finally did get the Bonneville cleaned up after having to use it in the first snowstorm. Again MERRY CHRISTMAS to each and every one of you.
  12. Marry Christmas. I hope next year is a lot better than this year. Dad dying suddenly this summer just when they are really getting into building our new house. Our old house that Mom and Dad worked so hard on for 28 years just being torn down a few days ago. But I guess I have to look positive. The new house is WONDERFUL. I will not have to deal with that big hill anymore as far as cutting it. And with me not bieing uch of a home maintenence person a new house is a lot better for me than one that dated back to 1901.
  13. Would you really be comfortable with a Chrysler product? Not I. I have passed up some good deals too because I either didnt have the space or need. Could have gotten a 1985 Olds Delta 88 a few years ago with only 29,000 miles. For a good price. I am at the point with the 2 old ones where I will just keep them rather than trade and not know what they need. I know what the Bonneville and Caprice need. And for my new one I guess I am one of those that doesnt mind FWD or AWD for my daily driver. I am thinking what to do when the Equinox lease expires in March 2009. I could lease another, but I may be looking to cut back a bit on expenses. So I may look at other options. I actually do like my my moms Aveo a lot better than I thought I would. It worked pretty well in the najor storm I drove it through. But it doesnt have very much under the hood and the drivers armrests were not designed for road tripping. I may look at the new Malibu either to purchase or lease. It looks promising. Or maybe purchasing a 2 year old Impala may be a good choice since I liked my Mom and Dads 2002. And by then I could get a 2006 or 2007 which is much improved. But I would never touch a Chrysler product. I think I would look at a Ford before a Chrysler product. And I would never look at an import. I guess I learned something from my dad.
  14. Just got done witn mine. Gift cards and a convection oven later. I also helped get a quarter of beef and a half of a hog for my sister. And build-a-bears for the 4 kids.
  15. Great!!!. The both of them I have do need a few things. A/C on the Caprice works when it wants to. High doesnt work on the climate control and the trunk key lock doesnt like to cooperate. Bonneville has a few water leaks that need to be taken care of. And the headliner has a few bubbles.
  16. I like my old Rio that works with windows media files. I wonder if you could get a disk from Apple if you contacted them?
  17. Get the carburetor rebuilt or replaced. Get the replacement adjusted properly and it will make a new car out of your Olds. Is it mostly fixed now? I know there were other things with it.
  18. Cool. I was having a bit of trouble logging into this site but I got it. Look for them.
  19. I can E-Mail them to you. I dont have the whechamocallit that you guys do to upload them. I also have pictures of the 1984 Buick Park Avenue that my Dad and I fixed for my niece then she decided she didnt want it. It doesnt look quite as perfect as the other 2 but it still looked and drove VERY well for a car with 260,000 miles and seeing every Wisconsin winter.
  20. My birthday wasnt all that much either. Dad gone its a little different. Maybe a little weird.
  21. Those are some nice pictures. Of course my favorite car in the whole bunch is the 1979 Caddillac. VERY nice.
  22. I do like my Equinox the best in snow and bad weather. But I agree. If you are careful and have good sensible tires on a B-body in my case or your Cutlass you will get around just fine. You just have to remember to be careful going around corners.
  23. We were lucky. We got about an inch. But we were on the north end of this thing. This is by Appleton Wisconsin
  24. I first ran across this now. I like ALL of your Monte Carlos but I always had a big liking for the body of the 1978-80. I got better pictures of the 2 cars recently. Sometimes its hard to believe I now have full responsibility for Dads 1985. But I love it to death when I drive it.
  25. I dont bother with oil changes on any of mine either. They are cheap enough at my dealer that I almost couldnt do it myself. Good luck to your shop project.
