I can't wait to get my hands on that 68 442 (though the front looks a little off), and the 50 Olds 88

Your Impala sounds alot like my 03 base 3400. I bought it based on the practicality/versitility it offered for the price. I liked the big trunk, fold down back seat, and yes the bench front seat. I specifically seeked out a colorful one, Superior Blue with the blue interior to be exact. Stands out in a world where most Impalas are neutral colors. Mine has a CD and cassette player, and the five-spoke aluminum wheels, which make it look a bit better 9don't know if yours has them?). I also added the body colored Impala badges from the LS to the front doors, and replaced the chrome one on the trunk with body colored which cleaned up the looks a bit. I was going to go full LS on the appearance, but I hate to admit I'm not real enthusiastic about it. I'm already looking forard to replacing it, so I think I'll bank the mod money and put it towards a replacement, which believe it or not is probably going to be a new Impala (just a higher optioned one). It's not a bad car, just feels soul less and doesn't excite me to drive. Only problem I've had was replacing the multi-function stalk when the headlights decided to stop working. The tranny seems to shift hard out of first sometimes, which doesn't fill me with confidence.

This probably should have gone in the "C&G Drives" forum... sorry, but I didn't see that one when I posted. Been ahile since I've posted. Also, I am home now, but I forgot I haven't installed Photoshop on my computer yet, so I can't edit the size and brightness on the pics to make them suitable for posting. They will still be coming, just later than sooner. I'm sure I'd get used to the gated shifter if I used it all the time. It didn't detract from the driving experience for sure.

JUST RETURNED FROM GM CANADA DEALER ONLY CAR SHOW
AM6_Cutlass replied to CadillacCTS's topic in Chevrolet
I can't wait to see the 08 Malibu. Sounds like it's going to be a winner. As for the GMT-900s, I really dislike the front clip of the Chevy, but the GMC looks decent. Would be odd if the GMC outsold the Chevy though. -
I drove a loaded Eighty-Eight Royale (90 model) when looking to buy my first car. had the digital dash (which is a horizontal bargraph, and not just the digital numerals like most) I'm pretty sure the voice reminder was discontinued by then. had a friend with a mid-eighties Chrysler New Yorker with the voice reminders. I found it a bit annoying myself, but a unique feature to have nowadays if nothing else.

milk or juice, whatever I have in the house. never coffee, can't stand the stuff, plus I promised myself as a kid I wouldn't ever become a slave to it like every adult I knew.

I almost fell off my chair when I clicked on that link. I actually found that car on ebay last night, and have been dreaming of it today. I think everybody should chip in and buy it for my birthday since i found it first, and my birthday came first . Just kidding... happy birthday.

Agreed, I like color. I really feel like my blue Impala sticks out in a sea of silver and beige cars.

I saw one on a Malibu quite a few months ago, and on a G6 sedan just a few days ago. I kinda like it, although it looks similar to a color Ford offered on the early Contours (and probably Mystiques). I still like the orange and crimson red on the G6. My sister is insisting on buying a silver one to replace her silver Sunfire.

Cool site, although my collection is larger, at least on the newer stuff. Very cool to see some of the really old stuff though.

Recently I had the oppurtunity to drive two of GM's entries in the dying field of full size front-wheel drive luxury sedans, the Lucerne and the DTS. The Lucerne came to me as a 2006 CXL (mid level trim) from Avis for a trip to the beach. I found it odd that they were renting out the CXL since we rented a LeSabre from Avis last year, and it was a Custom (best seller package). The CXL has the leather seats (and the rental had the optional split bench), which really had a strong odor. They added to the standard equipment further with the Harmon Kardon speakers, power sunroof and rear backup sensors. The exterior styling was clean, if not a little too plain. The interior is where the Lucerne really shines. The general look and feel was very upscale, and much improved over the LeSabre it replaces. I had plenty of time behind the wheel of the Lucerne, as well as time riding as a passenger both in the front and back. First, from behind the wheel, you are faced with a nice set of guages (which I was excited light up aqua-blue at night), and the HVAC panel lights up like a Christmas tree at night. The plood is a bit too shiny and distasteful on the dash, but then again I'm not a big fan of wood in cars anyway. Power from the 3800 is ample and quiet. It never strained, even through the mountians filled with passengers and luggage. The passenger cabin was quiet, but I guess I expected it to be even quieter after all the hype. Where the driving experience really let me down, was the suspension. The car was very floaty and bouncy over bumps (loaded and unloaded), and at all speeds. It was noticable as a driver and passenger, and really jerked around on low speed cornering and parking. Interior space was plentiful. Rear legroom was awesome, and there was even enough headroom for me (I'm 6'-2") in the back with the sunroof. The other letdown was the cargo arrangements. For some reason they are using the old fashioned luggage crushing hinges on the trunk. My Impala, and my grandfather's Century have the hydrolic arms that don't encroach in the trunk. I also found the size of the trunk to be a bit small considering the overall exterior size of the car. Also dissapointing they don't offer a folding back seat, just the little hole behind the center armrest. The next car was the 2007 DTS, which came to me unplanned. It was for a friend's wedding just a few weeks ago, and after Enterprise wouldn't accept his debit card as payment, he called me and asked if I would put it on my GM card as a last resort (don't worry, he paid me back in cash that day). Due to insurance reasons, this made me the driver (I was originally scheduled to be driven). The first thing I noticed was that Enterprise decided not to opt for the optional front bench seat. This left the console with a gated shifter. This was actually the first time I had driven a car with a gated shifter, and I hated it. I was neutral on it before, but unlike a regular console or even column shifter you really can't slam it in gear or drop it in gear. It was like a maze, and seemed awkward, but enough with that. This car didn't have the sunroof or back-up sensors the Buick did and as far as I could tell had no optional equipment. That was fine, since I was very impressed (my first time behind the wheel in a Caddy). The car was also an odd color combination. Silver outside, with a brown and tan two-tone interior. maybe it's just me, but silver and brown just don't mesh. Also, the leather seemed softer and nicer (less glossy and vinylesque) and didn't have a strong leather odor. The Northstar has serious power (lit up the tires a few times ), and the duals have an awesome sound. I really fell in love with driving this car, it just felt and sounded so cool, and my buddy said I really looked at home behind the wheel with my shades ). The interior was equally quiet to the Lucerne, the ride was smooth and less bouncy than the Buick though. All the lighting, even the back-up and interior is LED, and the speedometer has a little digital readout below the analog. Would be nice if the analog could be shut off completely to use just the digital (I love digital guages). I don't know what it was , but driving the DTS was much more fun, and I felt more special in it. I just didn't want to stop driving this car, I think it might be the most fun vehicle I've ever driven... more than the 01 Trans AM. May help that the DTS was my cost-as-no-object dream car going into it, but the Lucerne was high on my consideration for replacement to my Impala. The DTS had the same hinges in the trunk as the Lucernce, but were behind a wall of trunk carpet, so they wouldn't crush luggage but still reduced trunk space. The only real dissapointment of the DTS was fact that the trunk flew all the way open when released. It's nice to have a trunk popped, but not open when loading for a trip, or in the rain (neither of which was an issue, just a thought in my head) Pictures are at home still in my digital camera, will post when I get the chance.

I know the one over by Century III in West Mifflin does. I just drove by the one in Monroeville two days ago and forgot to check

We just got E85 here in Pittsburgh at the Sheetz stations. It's running at about 2.69/gallon where regular 87 octane gas is about 2.99/gal. if I had a car that was compatable, i would give it a try. If the price difference grows it may become a criteria for my next car to run on it. I had to stop my friend from putting it in his 3800 Impala LS. He told me the thought it was just a lower octane gas .

I hate Wal-Mart. It's always crowded, there are always lines (20 items does not constitute an express line!), and most of the people look and act like they drink tainted water. I try to avoid whenever possible (especially on Welfare and SSI days), but some things are cheap enough that I will go on occasion. I usually buy limeade, juice, crackers and a big box of fudge rounds, motor oil when I need it and an occasional Johnny Lightning car.

I can fumble with them. My first job was at a Chinese restaurant, and they taught me how to eat with them, but I have not practiced since. I guess the bottom line is that I could if I had to, but I'm lazy and usually too hungry to be bothered.

I have to admit extending courtesy to domestic drivers more often than import drivers, with the exceptions that I don't go out of my way to let truck/van/suv drivers out in front of me because I can't see around them. Also tend to snub anyone not using a turn signal (oops, didn't know which way you were trying to go;)) or on a cell phone. Brings to mind something that happened to me last summer in a construction zone. I was in the proper lane at the merge point, but I generally believe that if everyone takes a turn traffic will go alot smoother, so I saw a Lesabre signaling and flashed him to merge in fron of me, but there was a guy in a Subaru behind him that thought he was gonna squeeze in too. I pulled up to the bumper of the Lesabre and he kept persisting on getting in until he finally ran out of space in his lane and hit a construction barrel!

I get about 21-23 mpg with my Impala 3400, with virtually no highway driving. I was a little dissapointed with that. . I pretty much drive it like a grandma, and haven't even turned on the a/c yet. I wonder what kind of difference a 6-speed auto would make.
-
I somehow doubt it...but, then again the Camaro wasn't suppose to be here. :AH-HA_wink: Dear GM: Put a front bench in this Chevelle/Monte Carlo, and you will find one in my garage. I'm itching to get rid of the Impala already.

Absolutely Hideous. I was expecting better considering how good the Tahoe looks. Kinda lego like in the headlights, and the chrome center bumper is too Titan inspired. At least the Avalanche looks much better than this

Nothing quite like the feeling of letting out a good fart. It's just too bad not everybody can appreciate them.

Yea, I agree with that. I only buy what I really like. I mostly buy Johnny Lightnings because of the detail. I do have the O4 and Profile concepts, and Matchbox has started putting out some real cars again. They seem to do more modern cars, and not just sport/muscle cars. I like seeing average sedans and wagons. I just wish I would have bought the Matchbox Charger when I saw it now that I know Johnny Lightning cancelled thiers. My g/f says I have too many cars, but she's at fault for reigniting my passion in them in the first place. She bought me the Johnny Lightning Super 70s set with the 77 Cutlass Supreme for Christmas a couple years ago.

The Aura needs better wheels and piano black
AM6_Cutlass replied to Northstar's topic in Heritage Marques
The Aura is a car I've been monitoring closely, since the concept became the first Saturn ever that I fell in love with, and was on track to be a replacement to the Alero. I'm dissapointed in a few things with the production version: -no exciting colors inside or out. Bright red, or how about a cool silvery green or blue? Nope, just the neutrals. The Silvermist Alero was a compromise, because my girlfriend got cornered into buying a new car fast when her old one was totalled, and she regrets it now. -no good wheels. The mushroom cap/Chrysler Sebring wheels all the GM shots feature SUCK. The other two choices are slightly nicer, but nothing really stands out or fits the car. I was hoping for something like a honeycomb wheel (similar to the showcar), or even something similar to the chrome six-spokes from the Alero GLS. Also, dissapointed 17"s are standard. 16"s should be standard on the base car, as replacement cost is an issue with me for a look that is not all that different. -lastly, foglights should be optional on the base car Overall, it looks like a great car, just lacking in some details. -
Yea, instead of offering a full blue interior, just get rid of it and offer dookie brown instead ...BRILLIANT!. Seriously, though I wasn't a big fan of the "tuxedo" interior. Not enough blue, looked like a mistake, and the color they paired it with was waaaay to light. I still would really like to see a full blue interior, maybe for 2008? Along with a six-speed auto (I want it for the fuel economy), and a fold flat rear seat.
