  1. Good to see the 6 doing better this month. I really think it is a good looking car and can't wait to see how it does with the diesel if Mazda ever manages to get it launched.
  2. Has Subaru improved their quality? From my experience with my 2005 Saab 92X Aero (nee Subaru WRX) I used to own, the quality wasn't anything to brag about. I would venture to say it was one of the lower quality modern cars I've ever owned. Probably should have got the Legacy GT I was looking at instead. I really liked the look of their 2005 - 2007 MY vehicles but since then the styling has been a pretty steady downhill slide IMHO.
  3. I've driven several Darts and in all honesty, I like them better than the Cruze I just bought. Even the 1.4T that for whatever reason is "unloved." Maybe it is because I am used to turbo 4's with even worse turbo lag. lol Anyway, I picked the Cruze over a Dart for one reason: the diesel engine. If it weren't for that, I would be in a Dart. I don't get the lack of love for the Dart and (this is not directed at you specifically) I wonder how many people that criticize it have ever even sat in one, let alone drove it. I think it is a pretty nice car. Different strokes for different folks I guess. The Cherokee sales numbers really are amazing! I wonder if it can keep up the pace for the whole year.
  4. I believe Chrysler's CVT is a JATCO unit, same as Nissan. I don't believe they assemble it in one of their plants, but I'm not 100% sure
  5. I thought I'd throw another follow up on here and see if you are still happy with your purchase now that you presumably have a few more miles on the. What do you think? Would you recommend them to others?
  6. Tank #5 --> 522.3 miles on 13.985 gallons = 37.35 MPG Same 80/20 split as in the past but with better weather and worse traffic.
  7. Call me crazy but I see this less as the Dart styling on the Charger than I set it as the next logical styling evolution from the 2008 Magnum. That was the one and done refresh year. To me it is refreshed Magnum styling on the Charger.
  8. As a MY12 Charger R/T owner (same color as the one in the pics, no less), my first impression of this was not wowed, not horrified. I get that they are trying for a family resemblance. I don't get why everybody wants to suddenly see the Dart in everything, though. Suddenly every Chrysler car looks exactly like a Dart? This, the 200, I just don't get it. Does this have Dart appearance cues in the front end? Yes. But if nothing else I think that front end looks more like the Journey or the Durango than the Dart. Just my opinion, though. Having said that, it does grow on me a little every time I see it. I'm beginning to like it more and more. I'm curious to see how it will look in the SXT trim and also curious why they only released pictures of an R/T. Will the SXT still have a black painted front bumper mid-section or will it be body color? I also think this might look much better in the darker colors such as black and grey ala Corvette.
  9. Are they trying to put the Lexus spindle grille on the Toyotas? That is kind of what it looks like to me. Just a less obnoxious version of it.
  10. I'm not sure I'd call it awful but it almost seems like a waste of trim pieces because that trim is so close in color to the door panels and instrument panel. Perhaps it will show better in person than in pictures, though. Some details just don't show well in pictures no matter how good of a photographer you have. I love beige/tan interiors but this color seems better suited to a sports car than to an SUV. My kids would have that interior trashed in no time. It is way too light of a color for a family with younger kids. Also, I'm not sure about the pinched glass above the wheelwells.
  11. An AWD diesel wagon with a manual trans would be pretty damn cool. I am a wagon lover. My dream car is a Cadillac CTS-V wagon. What is the water fix you are referring to? I'm too lazy to do a google search.
  12. Tank #4 is now in the books. The warmer weather is helping. I went 508.4 miles on 13.563 gallons for an average of 37.5 MPG. A little more highway miles this tank but more stop and go during the city miles as well thanks to I-96 being shut down for the next 6 months. I'd say 75/25 split this tank. VIC said 32.4 MPH average. The VIC has also proven to be conservative with it's fuel economy estimates as so far it has been 1.5 - 2 MPG lower than I've actually calculated for the tank except tank 3 which was almost right on the money. Now that I have some miles on the car and am a little more aggressive with throttle application, the transmission is starting to show signs of the strange behavior that I have read about in magazines. It gives a surging feel under light throttle applications in the higher gears that I think may be torque converter lockup and they just don't do a good job of managing the torque of the diesel. It also got so confused on one occasion that had I not been cautious with my lane change it might have gotten me rear ended. Traffic in front of me started to slow down and I put the pedal to the floor to jump into the next lane over. It seems like it happened right as the trans was about to upshift and it didn't know what to do so the car literally did nothing. It just sort of fell on its face like I had just taken my foot off the gas, not just put it to the floor. Had I gone ahead and switched lanes I may have gotten crunched. I have had a similar issue in other recent vehicles I've owned so I chalk it up to the modern electronically controlled transmission. My Charger has even backfired through the intake a couple of times in similar situations but I chalk that up to the MDS deactivating at the same time as everything else going on. That one unfortunate incident aside, the rest of the transmission stuff has been just unusual feeling behavior, not anything dangerous to me or the transmission. All in all I am still very happy with my purchase. I forgot to mention - diesel fuel is the same price as mid grade gas in my area right now! Only because gas prices went up, though. I still paid $4.02/gallon.
  13. Tank number 3 is now done. 486.3 miles on 13.58 gallons (at $3.96/gallon) for mileage of 35.8 MPG. Split was still probably around 80/20. It has over a thousand miles on it so I have been a little heavier on the throttle.
  14. The big uptick in MKZ sales is a big surprise. Was there big incentives on them last month or is it just catching on? Fusion sales are on par with Camry numbers but I wonder how much of that is fleet? I know I see a ton of them in the metro Detroit area but its easy to get fooled by what you see around here as it often doesn't translate to the rest of the country.
  15. Wow! I have to say I am really surprised by both the Avendger and Dart sales being down together. I really thought that the Avenger dying combined with the Dart picking up the 2.4L (which addressed the primary perceived shortcomings since it also gets the torque converter auto trans) would have resulted in a big uptick in Dart sales. I've driven several of them on test drives and would have to say on the whole that it is a better than the Cruze I just bought. To me that says a lot since I obviously also like my Cruze or I wouldn't have bought it. Had it not been for the diesel engine combined with the deal I got, I was actually leaning toward a Dart GT for my next car.
  16. So now that you have had a few days to drive on them (I think you said you were picking them up last Friday), what is your impression of them?
  17. GM absolutely needs to advertise this thing! I don't know why they have not done a better job. It's almost old GM like in that they release a new product but don't bother to tell anybody about it. I guess they just hope the car mags will do the trick for them. The problem is, its not really an enthusiasts car and enthusiasts tend to be the ones that read the car magazines. It seems like every person I tell that I bought a Cruze diesel always replies "Oh, I didn't know there was a diesel Cruze." As far as value goes, I've assumed all along that for the 2 - 3 years I will own the car, I will not save enough money on fuel to justify the purchase. Since diesels typically have better residual values, I am hoping I get more of my money back when it comes time to sell. Of course, if they don't ever let people know they make it, there may not be many people looking for a used one in a few years.
  18. While I always caution that opinions may vary, in this particular case I think you made a safe decision and will be happy with your purchase. Since I am the one that enthusiastically recommended them, I hope that to be the case so you don't come looking for me later! Since they are unidirectional, it goes without saying to rotate often and make sure you keep it in proper alignment so you don't get any odd wear that would normally be mitigated by swapping side to side.
  19. I have a little over 1000 miles on my Cruze diesel now. My initial test drives of a different car plus the exact one I bought fell in line with what I had read about the transmission shifting being odd. The strange thing is, once I actually picked my car up and started driving it, it has exhibited little of that past odd behavior. I'm not sure if they have a new transmission calibration that was flashed in it between when I test drove it and when picked it up or what changed. I also wonder if it doesn't have adaptive shift logic and having so many different drivers in the press cars causes problems. All in all, the transmission isn't really something I would complain about. I have put two tanks of diesel in mine so far with both averaging right around 35 mph calculated. This is actually better than the vehicle information center in the cluster stated. Also, at least 75% of my driving has been on surface streets so I'm pretty happy with the mileage so far (especially considering my heavy right foot) and it should only get better as it breaks in and the weather warms up. Mine clatters quite a bit on a cold start but once it warms up it is much quieter. As stated in the review, even on the cold start, not much of it makes it into the cabin. Once it is warm, you wouldn't know it is a diesel sitting in the cabin.
  20. Tank number 2 is now complete. It went 490.9 miles on 14.059 gallons for an average of 34.9 MPG. According to the VIC that was at an average speed of 32.9 MPH. That should be a 75/25 - 80/20 split city/hihgway. Not too bad! I have to say I'm really impressed with this car overall. I'm still hopeful that once the weather warms up and the car breaks in a little it will get high 30's for my commute but even if it stays where its at now, I can't complain. I'm less impressed with the MyLink than I was before. It seems like the voice recognition has regressed. I can say "Call Mom mobile' and it will give me multiple options like "Call Mom mobile" and then something completely random that doesn't even sound the same like "Call Voicemail." As a follow up to my earlier comment on MyLink, if I have someone in my phone book as "David Smith" and I say "Call David mobile," even though that is the only David in my phone book it will tell my to try again using a name from my phone book. UConnect recognizes I only have on David on my phone and goes ahead and calls him. Strangely, MyLink does not do this when you have multiple entries for the same first name. In that situation, if you say "Call John mobile" it will bring up a list of all the Johns you have stored on your phone and ask you which you want to call.
  21. Unfortunately you can't see them that well in this picture because everything was still wet but the Altimax HP's looked good on it and they performed very well.
  22. The shifter in question only comes with the 8 speed transmission so the Hemi equipped cars like my MY12 R/T still have the old shift lever.
  23. Here you go. Ignore the dirt. I they currently have about 5K miles on them and basically show no where at all.
  24. One more thing on the Tiger Paws. They have a pretty deep, aggressive looking tread pattern on them. I don't think you really pick up on it in the pictures. The look suits our tall wagon (ahem...SUV) just fine but you may not like the way they look on a car, regardless of how they perform. I'm not sure how picky you are about the looks. They aren't horrible and look like off road mudders or anything but still, the look might not be for everyone. I can take a pic of them on our Flex and post it up if you like.
