I've only liked the xB out of the entire Scion lineup over the years (not a fan of the mini-Astro inspired xA though). Can't say much for the rest of te Scion lineup (the tC was too much of a girly car to me, though I know plenty young guys bought that car). The FRS is a better entry, but I find the iQ to be a joke. My step-son is a fan of the brand, but surprisingly my wife isn't.

Well, don't bother asking them about wheels. I got a 4th grade response to my request for a quote: "WHEELS ARE ONLY THING WE DONT DO". It seems as if you got a response from the same person I talked to in October at the show Sorry they weren't of any help.

If its not visible, POR15 it... then scuff it and topcoat it. It'll never think of rusting again. Since a few of you guys are looking at refinishing some wheels, I'm curious if anyone knows someplace in the northeast where one can get OEM alloy wheels rechromed. The '99 Bonne's wheels look fine and have good rubber, but the chrome job GM did on the Bonne "Torque Stars" is abysimal on the bead, inside and back of the wheels. The chrome flakes, the aluminum becomes chalky, then the wheels leak because you cannot seal the ever-cracking chrome. I've unmounted the tires, stripped off the bad chrome and repainted the insides, but it doesn't stop the chrome from flaking further... I bought a second cheap set of identical wheels, but they also need to be stripped and rechromed. Anyway, simply looking only for plating or chroming is not finding me anybody even slightly close to NJ/NY... and I'm sure there are companies out there. I'm also curious what the price range may be. I'm not interested in switching to aftermarket wheels... I really like the Pontiac factory wheels, and always have... the only aftermarket wheels I'd be remotely interested in putting on the Bonneville are the TorqueThrust-M wheels... but they are for late model Mustangs... and the bolt pattern is off by about 1mm... close enough that people use Mustang wheels on W/H-bodies, but not close enough for me to drop a grand on wheels that might not fit right enough for my peace of mind. I have two business cards from chrome platers, though both are located in PA: *Paul's Chrome Plating, Inc., Evansville, PA www.paulschrome.com - He's at both the GM Nat's at Carlisle in June and the AACA Fall Show in Hershey. He has been a staple at these shows for years and displays some of his work. My issue is that he's close to Pittsburgh, so what I want chromed would have to be shipped to & from. *N.E.L Metal Restorations, Philadelphia, PA www.precisionchrome.com - If my memory serves me right, I saw this company in October at the AACA Fall Show (Hershey). I liked the stuff they had on display, though the guy I spoke to was a bit of a jerk, Being very close to Philly was what drew me in. I plan to eventually get a GMC hood ornament ('55-'57) chromed. I've wanted to use Paul's but since I found N.E.L.'s business and being close to Philly I may check them out. I need to get together with balthazar for a sand blasting session first though

Awesome Caddy! My step-son would be jealous - he wants a DTS of this vintage. -

I'll check into that, thanks for the information Horse!! I may also consider driving it too, and making it a 3-day trip (Friday to drive out, Saturday at the show, Sunday to drive home). It's just under 10 hours and approximately 550 miles, according to Google Maps. -
It sold Friday afternoon, salesman called to let me know. Oh well, on to the next search...

Well, went out last night for some items and decided to buy a bottle of RainX. Went home, cleaned the windows really good, and applied the RainX as directed both by the bottle and instructions posted here. Right now the glass (front & rear windshields, sunroof, door glass) all are smooth as, well glass We'll see how well RainX works as rain is predicted in my area Saturday night through to Monday or Tuesday.

It appears you've seen a MOUNT CONSTRUCTION vehicle. They're based in southern NJ (Berlin) and can be found everywhere in and around the NJ-PA area. All of their vehicles are painted that light metallic bright blue: I've seen some pretty interesting vehicles painted in their blue color!

So is my wife, dfelt. The whole commuting together ritual is getting to be a pain in the arse, seeing as how she sometimes (say 3x's a week) needs to stay beyond 5:00 PM and we need to be home by 6:00 PM for our children (well, at least one of us). My work schedule & department are more flexible with coming and going, where her department is more rigid in start & end times. We've been compromising for the past year & a half, and days we can't compromise we take separate vehicles (I hate putting all that mileage on my Envoy, and the gas it consumes). Either we lease a small commuter car, like the Spark, so I can take the G6 (which already has a lot of miles from her commuting with it the past four years), or we look at a decent but older used car (I've found two '97 Chevy Lumina sedans that have under 90k in mileage that seem pretty affordable as an added commuter car). The wife would really like the Spark, though we could benefit from the added vehicle now and not "summer".
-
Does anyone know the on-sale date of the Chevy Spark? My wife really loves this car, and we're considering a cheap lease vehicle for work commuting (I tried to get her interested in the Sonic hatchback at the NYIAS to no avail). The Chevy spokespersons told us that they'll be available in summer, but had no concrete date. Are they being built yet?

It could have been me, or it could have been the product. Like with your experience, light rain water usually sheeted off the windshield, but heavier rain required the use of the wipers and I got a smear effect that made it harder to see out of the window. I wasn't happy and gave away the bottle of RainEx to someone. I would be willing to give it a try again, if that's the only thing out there to help prevent bugs from accumulating & hardening on the windshield as the summer months approach (the downside to living in the more rural parts of southern NJ).

Thanks for the vote of confidence in this 'Burban and the information, dfelt!!

Thanks wildmanjoe and SAmadei for your input/advice. The fact that these leaks are not causing you to say run away at this time, I will investigate the truck further. I was planning to go early Saturday morning to see it for myself, but something came up delaying that until late morning or sometime in the afternoon. I will email the salesperson to see if I can get more details on the meaning of the rear seal. As for where it will be parked, this huge thing will be parked out on the street (especially with the leaks). The '96 Caddy Fleetwood Brougham occupied the driveway briefly in '09 and leaked power steering fluid and some rust water from the battery tray - did not make the wife happy staining the driveway! I live in a townhouse community and across from my unit is open space, so I won't be disturbing anyone else by parking it there.

Thanks for all of the input and advice. Because of the odd/unseasonable warm weather, bugs have become a recent problem. Took the car for a ride into Flemington/New Hope areas Saturday and the windshield was covered (while the rest of the car, outside of the front bumper, remained clean of dead bugs). I wasn't sure if I could use the same wax I used on the body (Meguiar's NXT wax) on the glass or if that is not recommended. I definitely need to put the summer additive in the washer resevoir, as there's a good amount of winter formula wash still left over (no snow = not much use this winter). I will definitely look into RjION's method, and will get some Invisbile Glass product that Dodgefan recommended too. black-knight - I definitely recommend the clay bar kit prior to waxing. I washed and waxed the G6 in July 2010 and the results are not as great as the wash/clay bar/wash/wax I just did recently. The wife is totally amazed at how shiny and smooth the car feels. I plan to do the same to the Envoy next month.
-
So last Friday I washed, clay barred, and waxed my wife's G6. Everything is smooth as glass, well except the windshields. I used RainEx many, many years ago and didn't like the results (windshield was streaky when it rained and the wipers were on). Any suggestions for protecting the glass?

Well, the '96 isn't mine just yet, and the one I posted was for referencing the lift I could do with it Yours is very nice. 1994 was an interesting year for me with Yukons, Tahoes and Suburbans (both). I spent a lot of seat time in them at car shows, I test drove a diesel gold-colored Tahoe Silverado at Reedman Auto World in Langhorne, PA (that was fun!), and day-dreamed a lot about owning a Suburban (I was 19 & in college at the time, so it was not only uneconomically feasible, but just little old me to drive such a big truck). If the leaks mentioned above are not red flags to purchasing this Suburban by anyone here, and the rest of the truck when I see it in person Saturday is in decent condition, I just may be fulfilling a very old wish
-
If purchased, maybe down the road a mild lift kit would be added, along with some more aggressive tires, making this more of a toy than anything else. Here's what I have in mind:

I found on Craigslist the following 1996 GMC Suburban SLT 4WD for sale at an attractive price ($1,195): http://southjersey.craigslist.org/ctd/2942513897.html I have been in contact with the dealership and verified that the price is correct and asked what they meant by needing "tlc". The price is correct and here is the reply about the TLC: "The car has 3 leaks: 1 transmission 2 Rear seal and 3 oil filter housing, The car runs good it just needs a little work." Like my desire for a 2-door Yukon, the GMC Suburban of the same vintage is equally desired by me. This would not be a daily driver, actually I don't know what I'd really use it for other than around town errands/fire police duty, but the price seems to be too good to pass - unless someone here feels the issues (leaks) are leading to much bigger problems (I don't want to buy a money pit). Input? More pictures can be found here: http://www.bmwofturnersville.com/detail-1996-gmc-suburban-sl-used-8409034.html

The guy I work with that I've posted a picture of his red '71 Caddy has brought his '61 Caddy convertible to work today. A crappy cell phone camera shot from his third floor office, for your enjoyment *UPDATE* I snapped a close-up shot when I left work yesterday:
