I get what you're saying, hyperV6. It's been 21/2 years since I've last purchased, which is habit for me since I was into leasing for so long (hey, I'm not as bad as ocnblu!!). The Envoy has been a great buy since it only needs basic maintenance performed (the GMCPO bumper-to-bumper warranty took care of many warranty issues before it expired), but it is a 6 year old vehicle and I'd like something new. If GMC would have shown the all-new 2014 Sierra, and if I fell in love with it, maybe that would help quell my desires for something new at this time. While I have not been a HUGE fan of the Canyon, I won't say it has never been not liked by me (I miss my '01 Sonoma Highrider, and was suppose to get an '04 Canyon but the wife made me get a car instead ['04 Malibu]). Seeing as how production of these trucks has ended, and dealers have what they'll have until the '15 Canyons arrive, I've been noticing them more and the one I found happens to be a SLT model with the 5.3L V8 and the upgraded 18" chrome rims which just make this truck shine (I'm not a big fan of the black exterior color, but washed and waxed it does look sinister). Time will tell....

Surprisingly, I was enamored with the Pontiac Trans Sport in the early '90s, and many of my friend's parents had one, if not the equally badged-engineered Olds Silhouette or Chevy Lumina APV (I'm very surprised that Buick never offered one ). However, Trans Sport's don't make good convertibles: Being a dyed-in-the-wool GMC guy, I voted for the GMC Safari as that was truly a better vehicle than any of the U-body vans.

I have the '50s and '60s versions, along with that wonderful '57-only issue. I do know they have the '70s out now for a couple of years... just waiting for the '80s to come out I attended a local NAPA-sponsored car show in the next town at the beginning of this month. One of the trophy winners was a restored 1957 Chevrolet 150 or 210 four-door sedan in all black with the inline 6-cylinder engine with the most basic of features. I'll download the pictures off my camera and post it here. They're out there, but rarely will you see them at the larger, well-known shows (I see basic models mostly at these small town-type of shows).

I just LOVE those new-for-2012 18" upgraded chrome rims. Those, in addition to the 5.3L V8 engine and a being an SLT model, have definitely piqued my interest in the black one I posted the link too. I may just tease myself and see what a lease plan would be on this pickup sometime this week.

Oh, I totally agree about the new, upcoming Canyon (I wonder if it is still a 2015 model expected in 2014?). If I were to bite on a '12 Canyon like the one I posted above, it would be for a lease vs. purchase deal. This way I could easily move into the new Canyon when it debuts

Something just looks better with the way the red one sits is on the road compared to the "squeezed" look of the silver one.

Styling is always subjective!! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I think my wife is attracted to the Buick Encore because it reminds her of two vehicles she wanted back when she bought her Pontiac G6 (2008) - the new-for-2009 Pontiac Vibe GT and the Saturn VUE. As long as she doesn't tell me she has to have a Toyota, I'm fine with the Encore. Her other two desires are the CTS Sedan and the LaCrosse.

There is more than just cosmetic changes - the shell of the Acadia was changed to the former Saturn Outlook, I'm sure electrical issues the '07-'12's had were addressed with an updated/upgraded system, the dash in the Acadia is new (not sure about the Enclave, as I'm not as interested in that), and there are new features that the Gen1's don't have. This isn't just a grille and wheel swap here. As for the Canyon, I'm expecting it to look very different from the Colorado. While many are hoping that the Colorado gets a different "face" for the North American markets, I feel that the different face will be the Canyon. I'm expecting the Canyon/Colorado to be like the Terrain/Equinox - two different flavors for different buyers.

The truck people I know that are aware of this engine, mostly non-GM/GMC people, mostly assume that two V6 engines were bolted together instead of being cast as all one block. Otherwise, I feel most are not aware of this engine. -

All new 1500 (half-ton) pickups suffer from the lower bumper/airdam setting today: 2013 RAM 1500: Ford F-150 (2011 shown): GM trucks suffer the worst though with the ground clearance on the front bumper. It is due primarily to aerodynamics and secondary to crash standards - but balthazar is right that today's cars are taller. I'm hoping the 2014 GM full-size trucks have found a way to be more aerodynamic and offer more ground clearance with the front bumper/airdam set-up (approach angle suffers otherwise). Though I do know that GM advises you remove the airdam when offroading on the current trucks.

Thanks for the info, Dodgefan. I did confirm with the shop owner that the U&L gaskets were going to be replaced. He said the same thing as you - a real shop would have performed a pressure test on the system first before hooking up a pressure washing machine for a fluid wash. He said it likely was cracked before that (which would explain the coolant loss) but that the process didn't help the situation. I gave the go-ahead for the work to be done and the owner said once they get the intake manifold off they'll double check to make sure that is the cause. In hindsight, he should have used this shop for the coolant flush, as they were the ones who did work on my '96 Cadillac FWB and I was happy with their work. He was in a rush to get to work and stopped by the quick lube place as it was on his way. Good thing for grandmom's

My step-son took his '98 Buick Regal LS with the 3.8L Series II V6 to the local Oil Change/Car Wash place because his low coolant light kept coming on. They flushed his engine with the pressure machine, put in new coolant, and replaced his "rusty" fuel filter. He left the place and the car was shaking like it wanted to stall out - the Service Engine Soon light was flashing, he said. I told him to meet me at the local Advance Auto Parts store so they could do a free OBDII code read. He got code P0300 - random multiple misfire (they said it would need to go to a mechanic). Tried to restart the car and it wouldn't crank over. Pushed it into a parking spot and left it to see if if would restart after cooling down for a while. 2-3 hours later return and it wouldn't crank over. Called roadside assistance and had it towed to the local repair shop. Got a call from the shop owner today. Diagnosed the problem as engine cylinders being "hydrolocked" with engine coolant. Asked if we ever had the intake manifold replaced; told him we've owned the car a year. He said the 3.8L V6 Series II engines are known for cracked IM's since they're a plastic design. Likely the pressure from the recent engine flush cracked it enough to leak coolant into the cylinders. Says that a new intake will be needed and suggested replacing the old looking spark plugs and wires (tune-up) since we don't know when it last had one (and the fact the plugs have been soaked in antifreeze). Cost... $975. Step-son is calling grandmom to see if she can cover the bill until he makes enough to pay her back (otherwise I'll have to use the "truck fund" money to cover the repair until a couple of his paychecks come in). Would I be correct in assuming that the upper & lower intake manifold gaskets are being replaced too? I will verify with the shop owner when I call him back (after we find out if grandmom is helping), but thougth I'd ask here first about this whole issue.

I found this picture from the '78 GMC Sierra brochure that shows the electric blue with either a light blue or white inset color for the two-toning that really makes this truck stand out: Where would I find the Parts Service Label with all of the RPO codes listed on it? The glovebox seems the likely place... -

Thanks for all of the discussion on this GMC (and the tailgate issue). No time to post this weekend, but like bobo stated I did find out that this was the trim used on the High Sierra models versus the Sierra Classic that used the full-width aluminum trim. ocnblu, thanks for posting the various brochures, the '77 Chevy one shows the color combo I'm envisioning this truck in Unfortunately, no time to see this truck this weekend and it's the opposite direction I work in (but closer to my home). If the truck doesn't sell this week, I will try to get out there next weekend. I'm very interested in seeing how much work this thing needs overall. Any areas I should pay particular attention to? Being a restored 15 years ago truck, I'm curious if there's anything hidden in the bodywork I won't be able to see. And I need it to come with the 454 V8 if this deal is to go through
