  1. Isn't that the truth!?! I know more people who use their garage as an additional storage unit than for parking their cars. I guess they save on paying those ever growing storage places for a rental unit! My neighborhood is a townhouse community where everyone has a two-car garage and driveway lengths depend on the size of the land your unit was built on. I can fit both of our vehicles in the garage, and two cars in the driveway, with possibly two more smaller vehicles behind them if the first two aren't land yachts Half of my 2100 sq ft basement is finished with the remaining half for storage. I use half of the garage for the kids' summer toys June-October, and November-May both vehicles get parked inside (step-son's car is parked on the street or in the driveway if we know one of the two garaged vehicles won't be used).
  2. 6ABC news this afternoon is reporting upwards of 250,000 cars - 16,000 of which are new manufacturer's cars - to be claimed by Sandy. Their report went on to mention the demand for automotive purchases (new and pre-owned) will increase once the insurance companies start making payouts.
  3. Now that's a great idea! I have a ton of automotive-related ornaments, but don't nearly put them all on the family Christmas tree. I think a skinny tree for the foyer would be a great place for these ornaments. American Greetings... where did you find it? We use to have these types of stores but they all closed up (Hallmark is the only one remaining as a stand-alone card store that I can thinks of).
  4. My fire station was suppose to order gray t-shirts ith a moustash on the back for us to wear throughout November, but I haven't heard anymore about it.
  5. I've had a beard since November '04
  6. Hallmark? Did you get it?
  7. Nice!! Lucky
  8. What's with the blue tape?
  9. So, there was a thread similiar to this that I can't find (I'm sure someone will post a link though when THEY find it! ). Originally, I replied that we were going to pay off the G6 in mid-2014 (if not earlier) and then the Envoy in early 2016, at which time I'd look to get me a new GMC Sierra pickup. The the wife fell in love with the Buick Encore and wants to consider leasing one when they hit the market (meaning one of the two current vehicles has to go). Logic says dump the Envoy - it will be 7 years old and still has 3 years left on the loan - and keep the G6 since it's almost paid off (and likely not a good trade-in value). Though I don't want to be without a truck (okay, I know it's a SUV, but appease me here!), going that route means I could get a new Sierra a year earlier than planned before, maybe two years earlier if we pay off the G6. Of course I'd still like a pickup truck as an additional vehicle until I can get the new one But this is where I am at this point in time with our automotive planning. Anyone else thinking about their next automotive purchase? Near or far away, it doesn't matter!

  12. Silly you, got that picture from the Internet
  13. Well now you have a homework assignment, young man. This weekend you must: 1. Buy new batteries 2. Visit the GMC dealership 3. Take pictures of the Sierra, assuming it is still there 4. Post the pictures here This is a pass/fail grade, so make the teacher happy It's alright, I did your homework for you 2013 GMC Sierra in Mineral Green Metallic: It's nice to see a dark green make a return to the full-size GM pickups Too bad this is a special package color only.

  15. Plenty of co-workers at my job here in NJ have family and friends, amongst themselves, that suffered from property loss due to Hurricane Sandy. Many lost cars parked at their houses in the NJ shore towns, and others lost their cars to flooding in their towns (mostly northern portions of the state close to NYC). My one co-worker's grandparents lost their two cars parked at their lagoon house off the bay that leads to the ocean - they were at their Florida house at the time. My boss lost his vintage VW Beetle convertible (older, non-restored car) that he leaves at his parent's shore house on Long Beach Island (LBI) for summer usage. I'm sure those without comprehensive coverage, especially on older, less used vehicles, will not be compensated unless the Federal Government (FEMA) steps in. I agree with you ocnblu, too many cars will be heading to scrap/junk yards over the next couple of weeks.

  17. 1993 called, they want their paint scheme back. No, it's the In Living Color special edition, even comes with the Wayan's signature on the dash
  18. Thanks for the input, dfelt You know, this is my automotive ADD kicking in. The Envoy is approaching 32 months of ownership (March '10 - November '12); previously, I was on a 30 month rotation with my 36 month leases, so I'd already be in something "new" at this time if the leasing programs didn't go away in 2009. Unlike others who are fortunate enough to be able to buy new, at this point in time financially I have to look at pre-owned (it is expected that after 2014 our financial debt load will be gone, so if I could hold out 2015 could be the year for a new purchase again). I think I'm going to forget about the '08 Yukon, as nice as it appears, and same with the white '06 Sierra Denali. For the time being, I'll still ponder the black '06 Sierra Denali Of course come December 13th when the new 2014 full-size GM pickups are shown could help do the trick of being more patient.
  19. On the current GMT-900 Sierra, I like the chrome mirror caps and door handles, in addition to the bodyside molding with the chrome strip (as shown on the All-Terrain above). Other than that, any more chrome elsewhere is going overboard (like with the chrome bug shields, door guard edging, ventiport stick-ons, chrome B-pillar covers, etc). I see that all the time on these trucks (Silverado included).
  20. What started this conversation was the sighting of this 2006 GMC Sierra Denali for sale at a nearby Chevy dealership that I looked at last weekend: http://www.classiccarschevrolet.com/2006-gmc-sierra-denali--c-10645.htm It has 74k miles and is selling for $19,500. A search on Craigslist for other 2006 Sierra Denali's found this one at a Woodbridge, NJ GMC dealership: http://www.autobymiller.com/VehicleDetails/used-2006-GMC-Sierra_Denali-AWD_Crew_Cab_Short_Box-Woodbridge-NJ/1857251593 That one is selling for $23k but has 46k miles and an the all important feature for the kids - the DVD player. Black is not my favorite color, but it is a sharp looking truck.
  21. So the wife and I were talking the other day about larger, family-oriented vehicles, and she asked why I never looked for a Yukon when I was shopping in March '10 (when I bought the '06 Envoy). A quick check of my GMC dealer's site finds me this: a 2008 GMC Yukon SLT 4WD nicely loaded but with 90k miles selling for $24k: http://www.burnsbuickgmc.com/VehicleDetails/used-2008-GMC-Yukon-4WD_4dr_1500_SLT_w%2F4SA-Marlton-NJ/1859871383 Would that many miles scare anyone away from purchasing this SUV? I'd have to go and see the truck in person to make sure the rest of the condition was good, but with that kind of mileage should I look elsewhere?
  22. for a very , Drew!! Hoping that you don't have to spend your special day travelling for work and can enjoy it in a way that suites you best.
  23. It sure is, and I like how Chevy stylists were trying to bring some of the car styling to the full-size pickups back in the '60s. It's also nice to see that this was a "SS" model, way before trucks were ever considered to be that sporty. It would have been a cool feature to see that grille with the hide-away headlights make production, I don't think any truck ever had that feature.
  24. Oh, I wish GM/GMC would allow the All-Terrain package on the SLE Regular Cab model. I'd find a way to have the wife get the people hauler so I could have that kind of pickup!
