I found this site with an '88 V30 Chevy Custom Deluxe while searching Google and thought of your Mothertruck: http://www.bangshift.com/forum/showthread.php/38448-Pete-s-1988-Chevy-One-Ton-Crew-Cab That got me to wondering, have you ever told us the story of how you came to be in possession of Mothertruck?

I'll have to make sure there's enough leftover to buy a GMC grille, emblems and other trim from LMC Truck to convert it over

While I agree with the logics behind limiting the Corvette to dealer-equipped and trained staff and high volume, I don't agree with GM playing the "following game" with Dodge/SRT. Since they mentioned it first, I'd let them have fun limiting the availability of the new Viper while I (GM) would have fun giving it out to any dealer that asks for one. Of course GM could mandate that at least one mechanic is trained on repairs and is equipped with the necessary tools for those repairs. I just think it's a stupid plan to bring more attention to the Corvette - the real people that are hurt are the low-volume dealers that want to sell the new one and the customers that may have to drive out of their way to a "big box" dealer to buy one. If a dealer wants to have a Corvette for a halo-car-in-the-showroom gimmick, why should the manufacturer deny the request? GM needs to start leading with their marketing ideas rather than following on their competitor's heels.

Having owned a 2007 Saturn SKY for about a year and half, I will say they are not great daily driver vehicles. You sit very low to the ground and even other compact cars have a hard time seeing you, interior comfort can become an issue on long commutes/drives (especially with the gangster car inspired roof convertible top in place), and forget about grocery shopping (unless the passenger seat is open). These are great 2nd or 3rd "toy" vehicles as long as you have a more reasonable daily driver. Yeah, you scratch that chin, Mister!!

You took the thought right out of my head!! But now that means I need to step-up my lottery ticket buying so I can afford to have Camino do the Mothertruck how I want it

Cadillac News: Detroit Auto Show: 2014 Cadillac ELR
GMTruckGuy74 replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
I think the ELR will sell well to a certain customer base. I work in the pharma industry with people that make a large amount of income and have an air of class surrounding them. One day last fall while in a training, one such person commented about her commute in her newer Infiniti G37 coupe and said she'd love to get a hybrid but can't be seen in a Toyota, Honda or Chevy (though she admitted she liked the Volt). When I told her Cadillac was coming out with an electric car in mid-2013, she got all excited and said she could accept a Cadillac for her personal transportation. There is a certain perception surrounding "bread and butter" or "joe average" manufacturers. The Caddy version will help get the Volt technology out to those who can't be seen driving a Chevy. -
So re: the sad dealers, should ALL dealers get at least one Corvette per year? At least it would be a showroom draw and in order to get one the following year, they need to sell the current year's allotment. Sound logical? I don't see why Chevy should follow SRT/Dodge here. Corvette is known as America's sports car, and limiting the dealers who can sell them is wrong in my book. I may not be able to afford a Corvette, but I've always enjoyed looking at the one's in the showroom (and if allowed to sit in it, I've enjoyed making vroom-vroom sounds ). I do not agree with this marketing strategy at all.

Why not look at a base 2014 Silverado or Sierra regular cab, 2wd with the new 4.3L V6 when they come out later this year? Though the MPG ratings haven't been released yet, talk is that this V6 engine will be very fuel efficient.

Sorry to your thread, black-knight, but I want to ask FOG something based off of his comment above. What are you seeing, if anything, with the '73-'79/'80 and '85-'87 GM fullsize pickups? I know the '67-'72 models are now reaching higher selling/transaction prices, but I'm curious as to your perspective on the "square body" pickups. black-knight, to go back on topic, have you considered a pickup truck? Regular cab, 2WD, V8 (not manual trans though, at least not from GM). You could go all out and make it sporty looking. I know trucks aren't for everyone, but just askin'.

Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra Live Reveal
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
I know of no one that has seen a (pre-) production nor does Google bring up any images (well, the ones posted here by those that made one on the Chevy web site). I'm hoping the Chicago show has additional information revealed about the trucks (next month), as waiting until April for the NY show seems to really be pushing it. At the Philly show a lot of people seemed to have watched the reveal at some point and were aware that HP, torque, and towing ratings weren't publicized. Many were asking the reps/spokespersons for that info and all were told, "Sorry, GMC/Chevy has not released it yet." That leads me to believe that we'll see more trucks and get more info between the next couple of shows (case in point the one rep yesterday stated that the trucks will be on the dealer's lots June/July, though I have not heard much about that anywhere else). -
Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra Live Reveal
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
A big surprise for me yesterday was seeing the 2014 GMC Sierra (SLT, Z71 4WD, Crew Cab, 5.8" bed, Stealth Gray Metaliic) and the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado (LTZ, 4x4, Crew Cab, 5.8" bed, Silver Metallic) at the Philadelpia International Auto Show: Any question of whether I'd want to buy the Silverado over the Sierra was answered yesterday (sticking with the Sierra). The Silvy is a great looking truck, but the Sierra has my name written all over it. Funny thing is that GMC was distributing actual full-blown brochures on the 2014 Sierra (no new information that hasn't already been released) while Chevy handed out simple brochures that open into a poster. GMC had the Sierra brochures out in the open on the table, while you had to ask the Chevy rep to give you one (and by one, I mean one) on the Silverado -

We saw our first production 2013 Buick Encore FWD yesterday at Lester Glenn Buick-GMC in Toms River, NJ: Very impressive car and size! My salesman at my B-G dealership emailed me Saturday morning to say their first 3 Encores have arrived too. Getting ready to go to the Philadelphia International Auto Show soon, so looking forward to sitting in one.

Where are all of the trucks and SUVs? Oh that's right, trucks were out on the farms and up in the woods, being used for work If I existed in that time, a truck would have been my daily driver for sure.
-
Beautiful!! Though I seriously doubt that's what the truck looked like coming out of the factory back in 1959. I prefer that appearance to the basic work truck look of that time period. Thanks for posting

When I want to type a reply, I need to click on bold or italics first to be able to type a message (it won't allow me to click in the reply area and just type). I too have been geeting the error message when posting images, telling me I'm not allowed to do it. But if I click on "More Reply Options" and click on post twice, it will take the images.

Vintage Promo 1/25 scale Pontiac Buick Dealership Sign
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Merchandise Lookout
Well, I won the auction!! I decided that I couldn't pass this up, as it's the one sign I really wanted for my collection and I've never seen any others on eBay in the years I've been searching these out. The money I received for my birthday & Christmas, along with money I had put aside to upgrade my 3-year old Motorola Driod phone, have found a new purpose. I want to keep my Terex sign (posted above), but I may part with it on eBay for the right amount to help off-set the costs of the GMC sign and get me back on track for replacing my outdated cell phone -

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/save-johnson-valley-ohv-area-be-fiscally-responsible-stop-29-palms-marine-base-expansion-keep-public/5r0C7Xw4 Trust me, I'm not against the military or the Marines (my step-son is currently undergoing basic training with them right now!). But I don't agree with their wanting to take away 147,000 acres of open space that is used for off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation. If you agree, please sign the online petition at the link above (registration is required).
