2004 model year, before the 2005's hit the dealer lots. At first there was the massive mark-ups, then at the end there were the massive discounts.

I remember getting into the promo frenzy in 1989/1990/1991. I have some that go into the mid-'90s too. I was 14/15 years old at the time and my parents liked to go to Lancaster, PA a lot. Some of the flea markets and stores in that area use to carry promos, to which I started collecting. There was also a Chevy dealer on Route 10 my dad stopped at for me and I'd buy them there too. Rick Kranz use to be in the mail-order business and I bought many from him (the days before eBay and online stores!). They're tucked away in my basement but at this point they'll likely be put up for sale as soon as I get off my lazy butt! Don't worry, NeonLX, you're not alone in this collecting world. I have tons of HWs and MBXs vehicles and the wife dreads Target/Wal-Mart/Toys R Us visists

I'd also like to add that Chevy has learned from Ford - put different grilles on your different trim packages and you'll appease truck buyers One thing I'd like to note is that the "man step" is not shown on the High Country model. Same with GMC's All Terrain model (though you can get it with the chromed bumper option), and I'll go out on a limb and say that the Denali won't have it either. Very strange to highlight a feature that won't go on every model. At the NYIAS the spokesperson said the only way to get the man step bumper on the GMC All Terrain was to opt for the chrome bumper option, to which many around me moaned in disdain. I'm old skool and like my trucks to have chrome bumpers; apparently the market is shifting to body-colored/painted bumpers. I can't understand why GM does not offer painted bumpers with the man step arrangement? Hopefully this will change soon to appease all buyers.

Choices, choices, choices.... that's what it all boils down to. If a die-hard Chevy buyer isn't thrilled with the LTZ model, why send him away? Why should only the die-hard GMC buyer get the "good stuff"? Now Chevy dealers have a top-of-the-line, premium truck in their own bowtie showrooms to appease the Chevy buyer. It's okay to offer two premium versions of the full-size pickup! Those that say Caddy should be the tops, or GMC, don't realize that in Chevy car-owned homes those buyers like their cars and trucks to be from the same manufacturer (look at how many Ford cars/CUVs are parked in a driveway with a F-150/250/250 pickup for proof!). I really doubt this will take sales away from GMC - most Chevy Truck buyers do not cross shop with GMC (they'll do that with Ford or Ram; same with GMC buyers). If this profitable trim package keeps dealers in business, helps GM sell more trucks, and really doesn't cost GM more to make (not like a niche model), why are we bashing it? There's really two camps with GM's truck buyers - those in the GMC camp and those in the Chevy. With these loyal buyers they don;t tend to cross over much. The other buyers are ones cross-shopping other manufacturers or buy whichever GM truck they like the styling of (sometimes its Chevy, other times its GMC). As long as they're spending their money with GM, do we really care?

What's really sad is that I have a bunch of stuff purchased from car & toy shows last year in a box that I haven't tried to even fit onto the curios... I have the acrylic wall mounted displays that the wife is holding me up from mounting (she doesn't approve of any of the places I want to put them ). If I get them up I can move some of the 1/25th sized collectibles out and put in the new stuff. Soon, very soon...

Oldsmoboi has stated many times that the next generation Terrain/Equinox will get smaller, so not only will there be considerable weight loss the size will be smaller too. I'm sure the sliding seat feature will go away with the next model.

I just don't get it? If the only choices are colors and sunroof, why not just build them and ship them over? It's not like it's the '60s or '70s and you have an extensive order sheet of options to choose from. 90 days for color & sunroof (or no sunroof)? That kind of wait would be an instant turn-off for me. Plus you're paying a premium price for this car and have to waut 3 months? I'd bet that the 90 days will come and go and that car will still be stuck at the port or on a ship coming overseas. More like 120 days given GM's track record!

Just my luck! But it's awesome that you have the other years covered. I will file that in the back of my head should I need any of those years. Does anyone else have any leads for me to look into? I've tried Google but the results weren't as factual as I'd like to believe and that I can use.

I had to look-up what the front of the '97+ model looked like: I'm kinda leaning to liking the edgier '91 design; the '97+ looks too soft. But that's your truck and your decision to make.

I am going to stick with the new '14 GMC Sierra. It's what I've always wanted and I know I won't be happy unless I end up with one in my driveway. In all honesty, I see many '07-'13 Avalanches on the road and while I do like them, I'm not upset that I'm not pursuing buying one. That says a lot. I know I'm making the right decision waiting for the GMC. Now I just have to be patient and wait a little while longer

What I find funny is that in most ads of the '50s 'economical' seems to be the theme, especially with the trucks (of course back then a loaded pickup truck was not a common purchase like today). When you look at old b&w pictures of that time, most of the vehicles seem to be basic or mid-level trimmed, not the way they are depicted at car shows today (car shows will lead you to beileve that our society had a ton of money to spend on nothing but loaded up flashy cars). I can see why someone restoring an old car would add all of the options and features of a top line trim - if you're spending that kind of money do you really want a stripper? But it mistakenly gives the impression that nothing but fancy, well equipped cars were on the roads of the day. That Studebaker truck looks like it was released in the late '40s and never updated. I guess you really didn't fix what wasn't broken back then if you were still making money

Fairway Green Metallic, a very nice color and one I would seriously consider if it were available in my area (the Chevy dealer I've visited has one, but it's CPO). Only five (5) colors were used on the 2013 Avalanche - Black, Topaz Blue Metallic, White Diamond Tricoat, Silver Ice, and Fairway Green Metallic. It seems most Chevy dealers have stocked black, and while black looks great on any washed & waxed vehicle, it is not my preference (I've passed on several deals because black was the only color offered/available). White Diamond is nice, but having it on the G6 is enough for me (and that color is everywhere I look). Silver Ice is nice looking on the Av, but it is very blah like applicance white. I'm not a fan of the Blue Topaz Metallic on the current and upcoming Sierra/Silverado, but it looks okay on the Avalanche. A quick search of 4 Chevy dealers around me show a majority of '13 Avs in black and no one with Fairway Green (new). I'd be settling for the blue or silver if I went ahead with the Av deal, though I'd be more open to the green.
