    Classic Buicks

As with many of the classic GM vehicles, I like the mid-'50s model years the best: My personal favorite model; the 1957 Buick Caballero sport wagon: 1958 1957 1956 1955 1954
  2. This statement puzzles me... 2-door S10 Blazers were made up until 2005.
  3. sixty8, while you're at it, would you mind asking them for some more GMCs? I'd like a '57 stepside pickup, a '70 Jimmy, a '85 Sierra pickup, a '87 Caballero (El Camino), and a '95 Yukon GT (2-door). Thanx!!!
  4. Did you add the "CHEVROLET" script on the upper grille? I don't recall seeing that before. If you did, where did you get it from? And do you have any close-up pics of it??? TIA!
  5. Great color - it's the same color I have on my '07 Saturn SKY! The HHR is the reason I went with that color. I went "Sunday shopping" back in February and saw a 2LT HHR in that color and thought that the chrome really stood out against that gray color (Saturn calls it Silver Graphite; what does Chevy call it?).
  6. HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY to everyone on C&G!!!! to the good ol'
  7. That's a SWEET car! Good luck with it. I love the Cobalt SS/SC models. Too bad I don't drive stick
  8. While I love the HHR, if the AURA was on the lots right now and qualified for the 0%-72 hour sale, I think you'd see me in a new 2007 Saturn AURA XR sedan!
  9. Well, my wife's company is entitled to GM Supplier pricing, so I can use that to purchase a new GM car/truck. However, with last summer's "Employee Discount for Everyone" I got an even better deal with the Employee Pricing, PLUS I was able to use my GM Card earnings (which I can't with the GM Supplier pricing). That's how we were able to get a sweet (meaning LOADED) 2005 GMC Envoy SLT 4wd last August Plus the vehicles I want my wife doesn't like - HHR, LaCrosse, Sierra Crew Cab 1500 Z71 4wd (hahaha - she said she would never drive that one!!!). I'd seriously consider the HHR if she would open her mind up on its styling. She thinks it's ugly b/c it's retro looking. Dssurp's daytona blue HHR is awesome looking - I'm so jealous.
  10. I guess I'm disaapointed that there's no "Employee Discount" fire sale so far!!! I'm just not sure I'd want to pay an extra year on a car - I'm more into leasing and getting a new car every 30 to 36 months. However we've been racking up some miles on the 'bu lately due to the gas mileage of the Envoy (wife's 64-mile roundtrip commute sucks), so two leases right now might not be the best idea. Again, not sure if going to 72 months vs. 60 months would be beneficial in the long run. I'd definitely consider getting rid of the Malibu if a really good deal comes around.
  11. I'm Roger, aka GMTruckGuy74 I own a 2007 Saturn SKY - RWD baby! I also own a FWD Malibu and a 4wd Envoy that spends most of its time in RWD. Toyota sucks PERIOD.
  12. Thanks for the reply WMJ. I don't know about adding a Costco membership - I already have a personal membership & a business membership to BJ's and a business membership to Sam's Club. I don't know if I can afford one more membership - and there is a Costco not too far from me! I took AAS's suggestion and spent some time at TireRack.com doing some tire research. It looks like Goodyear's Assurance ComforTred and Michelin's Harmony tires are highly recommended (more the Goodyear than Michelin tires though; many Aerostar owners have bought the Harmony tires while more Malibu owners bought the ComforTred tires). The qualities of the Goodyear tires (comfortable ride, good handling, good dry & wet handling) are drawing me more to these tires over the Michelins. Sometime between tomorrow and next week I'll start calling around for price quotes. Unless I follow a few of the other C&Ger's and go buy a new GM vehicle during the 0% for 72 months sale!!!
  13. Thanks Northie for that suggestion; I'll go check out that site now.
  14. WMJ, who makes Duralon tires and where can you buy them at? Do you really recommend them? The wife drives a 64-mile roundtrip commute, so I need to make sure that the tires are reliable and dependable. AAS, I too am partial to Goodyear. Our '00 GP GT sedan had them from the factory as does my '07 SKY; I've also had them on a '92 Cavalier Z24, '78 Camaro LT, and my dad's '88 Ranger 2wd. The Bridgestone tires on the 'bu now from the factory suck (I noticed at 33k they were starting to wear out; now at almost 36k and driving back from Carlisle in the rain Saturday I wasn't too confident at speeds higher than 40 MPH), and I forget what tires came on our '03 Rendezvous, but they needed to be replaced before they hit 40k too (they weren't Goodyears!). Anyone else have their experiences to add?

    Tires

Thanks to Satty's thread about W-bodies, it's allowed me to start a thread on what kind of tires people prefer. I've never really figured out the right way to decide on and purchase new tires. I used Consumer Reports back in '97 and didn't like the tires they recommended!! The Malibu is in need of new rubber, and I'm thinking of going with Goodyear Assurance ComforTred (current tires are factory-installed Bridgestone Insignia SE P215/60R16 94S M+S <--- not great tires IMO). Whenever I've had Goodyear tires on a car, I've always liked the way they've performed. Now I'm actually holding off buying them because I was waiting to see if there would be any good summer incentives that might convince me to trade-in the 'bu. The 0%-72 mos doesn't interest me enough because I'm not too thrilled to pay for a car over a six year period. New tires will be needed soon if a new ride isn't purchased! Please post what brand of tires you like and why.
  16. I'm sorry I'm not hip or current with music as some of you, but my wife and one of my students likes a song by Coldplay that when I hear it depresses the &%$# out of me and makes me feel like committing suicide. I can't say I wish I knew the name of the song, but it's one of their recent, more popular ones.
  17. Unfortunately, not too many GM trucks were on display at the show... here's what I found:
  18. Hahaha... Matt, we where there at the same time and you & I took many of the same pictures! I find that very funny. The yellow Z06 belongs to the Fbodfather - Scott Settlemire!!! I was in that white building when you took the pics of the Z06 - and Scott was the one doing the Q&A session along with David North (retired GM engineer & consultant). After the session ended around 3:15, Scott got in the Z06 and drove over to the Tom Henry Chevy (dealership) tent. Yes, there are ususally many, many cars & trucks on display at the All-GM show. The rain kept MANY away and there were lots of open spaces in many of the catergory fields. Still, I missed last year (was sick) and figured I didn't want to make it two years in a row. I'm now trying to decide if I want to go back there for the All-Truck Nationals (Aug 4-6) on Saturday or to another car show in Macungie, PA that has a large toy show attached to it. I may go to the truck show on Friday, although I've done that in the past and there wasn't as much on display as there is on Saturday.
  19. I'd say go with teh VUE. My parents have an '05 VUE V6 AWD and they absolutely love it. The wife and I test drove an '06 VUE about 2-3 months ago and she loved the power of the 250hp V6 (yeah, it's a Honda engine, but the Vibe has a Toyota engine) Plus the polymer side panels are a big plus for fighting the "parking lot dent" war.
  20. Congrats on the HHR purchase! I'd love to replace the Malibu with an HHR, but the wife doesn't like the styling. Since I'm a big fan of GM trucks of all years, I really dig the '49 Suburban-esque retro styling. Too bad Enterprise doesn't rent them, as I'd get her to drive it for a day or two and maybe then she'd warm up to it! Anyway, post pictures when you get it.
  21. I was there from 11:30 AM until 5:30 Pm and it never rained. My 12 y-o son said he felt a few drops, but no rain as I could tell
  22. So, who went? I went yesterday <Saturday>; got there around 11:30 AM (a little over a two hour drive from NJ). It rained on the PA Turnpike on the way there, but outside of the last Lancaster exit it stopped. No rain at all while I was there - left around 5:30. It did rain on the way home, made for an interesting drive (there was an '06 DTS flipped on its roof). I attended the 2:00 PM seminar presented by David North, retired GM engineer and consultant, and Scott Settlemeir -- the F-body father! I think it was suppose to be more David talking, but the audience really wanted to hear from Scott and the conversation was more about the Camaro concept (which was on display there). Scott allowed the audience to ask questions and he would answer as best as he could without getting himself in trouble. I asked him about his reaction to the '07 Silverado leak and he said he was not too happy. Seems as some oaf decided to take the <red> truck out of the safe/secure zone for a quick car wash. D'oH!!! He said it seems on the 'Net everyone is complaining about the hood gap (aka opened hood). I asked if the Sierra was differentiated more than the Silverado and he replied "yes". I then asked if they both shared the same headlights and he said "no". So needless to say I'm really excited to see the new Sierra now. It was a great experience to listen to these two men and meet Scott in person. Unfortunately the rain kept most of the show cars & trucks away, as there were many open fields and lots of missing catergories.
  23. I remember seeing the LeSabre concept car at the Philly Auto Show back around 2003 or 2004. The paint looked dull and cracked in some areas, and the leather was worn but not torn or ripped. What do you expect of car that age? I'm just glad that it has survived and is still being shown. If GM spends the $$$ to restore it, say goodbye b/c it will never be taken around and shown like that again.
  24. I was suprised to see only two (2) SKYs at the All-GM Nationals in Carlisle (PA) yesterday. Mine was safely at home tucked away in the dry garage! There was a Midnight Blue metallic one on display from the local Saturn dealer and I saw a Silver Pearl being driven around in the "stuff for sale" section. On the flip side, I only saw one (1) Solstice, which was for sale in the car corral section (asking $28.9k). I still haven't seen any SKYs on the road around me. I get many looks when I take it out, and if I'm stopped somewhere people swarm all over it! My dealer has taken about 19 orders for it already and I think he said about 7 (including mine) have been delivered as of the 17th. Oh yeah, GM is capping the SKY at 10,000 units while the Solstice will get about 20,000 (figure too that the SKY will be badged as the Opel GT - so maybe that's where the other 10K are going).
  25. I'll never forget first learning about the 1989 Pontiac Stinger concept vehicle back when it was introduced. This was a year after the famed '88 Pontiac Banshee was shown. While I loved the Banshee and swore if produced I'd buy it one day (hey, I was 13 at the time!), I so wanted the Stinger even more. Rumors around '89/'90 was that Pontiac was going to bring the Stinger to production as their "GEO Tracker". It never happened and then the '93 Salsa concept was shown. Around '94 or '95 the Salsa received a production Firebird interior to help push it along for greenlighting, but GM still said "NO". I saw the '94/'95 version in the late '90s when GM used to display all kinds of vehicles in the lobby of the NY 5th Avenue GM Building. Seeing that Stinger again took me back to being 14 y-o and still wanting it!!!
