  1. Napco 4WD I'm sure you'd love to own it - heck, I'm sure you've driven it many, many times too. I'm envious of that fact! Placing this up for auction will definitely bring the town the most money for it, regardless of what the "new" owner has in store for it. Someone like me who has an appreication for the history and originallity of this GMC has two problems - no cash and no storage (well, I could move the wife's Envoy out of the garage!) . Getting it back to NJ wouldn't be a problem, as there are plenty of transportation companies out there to choose from (hey Sixty8, you and XP wanna take a ride for me?). While not my favorite year (1955 or 1956), this '59 GMC is a gem and would be a great vehicle to own. I wish you all the luck with getting as much as you can - GMCs are now being recognized for their rarity and auction/selling prices are starting to prove that (which is sad for me as I don't have the money to get one while they're still affordable). Mike, I ask again that when you put the GMC for sale on an auction site, please post the link so I can follow it's progress. Thanks for the info that you've shared here so far!
  2. I find the Silverado to look very attractive in this picture:
  3. Hey, it's a cheap ride, so if it can be made reliable, then go for it on that basis alone. However, if you want to drive something that you feel is cool and sporty, then try for the Buick T-Type. When I was 17 back in '92 and had my '78 Camaro in a friend's shop for some minor repairs, he lent me his '84 Olds Cutlass H/O for the day (good daily driver, needed work). I felt like a million dollars driving that car! Of course my parents also had an '83 Grand Prix LJ that I thought was cool too, so I think any of the G-body coupes are great. I say go for the Buick
  4. All I can say is that I'm expecting the Hummer H4 to be GM's versionof the Jeep Wrangler (2-door).... and I better not be disappointed!
  5. Well ocnblu, you'll be happy to know that: (1) last night I decided not to make an irrate call, rather I'd wait until afternoon and call to get an update; (2) I didn't have to bother making a call because at 7:45 AM the Service Manager called my cell & left a voicemail (can't take calls when I'm teaching class) to let me know that he was on vacation last week and was sorry that I received the call that I got and that my car was returned from the bodyshop Friday. So the good news is that my car is 98% finished and will be ready VERY soon for me to pick it up. The bad news is that GM/Saturn Parts sent the wrong rim (either painted or polished, not chromed) in the correct box. They recognized this Friday and ordered the correct rim to be overnighted. He is hoping it arrives today so they can mount the new tire onto the rim, balance the tire and adjust the rear suspension. Then my car will be ready for me to pickup. He stated he'd call either way this afternoon with an update. I have some work to get done before my day ends at 3:00, so if I don't hear from him by then I'll call on my way home. Thanks for being the "voice of reason"!
  6. It's funny that you mention that Sixty8, because right before the accident I mentioned to the wife that I would like a two-tone effect on the SKY. I had in mind something similar to the 2005 & 2006 SSRs - black over silver. Once I sent it to the shop, she asked me if I was going to do that (jokingly of course). I told her not now, but maybe in a few years.
  7. And finally, a picture of Reg's Aztek: Okay, well that's not really my car (boy though do I wish it were back from the body shop already). Cool photoshop done by a poster over at skyroadsterforums. In the post he even gives a link on how to do the above chopping; check it out here if you're interseted in learning for yourself: http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10982 And while shopping the other day at an outlet mall in central NJ, I found a sunshade at the Disney Store Outlet that has Lightning McQueen's eyes so that your real car can look somewhat like a Pixar-inspired CARS car! And at a clearnace price of $4.99 too!
  8. Wow... mentioned twice!!! (even if the second one is a memory I wish I could forget about) A very happy, prosperous and healthy New Year "2007" to ALL here at C&G! btw, is there any way possible to find out exactly when I joined? My date now shows when we were switched over the last time; however, I know I've been posting on C&G since the fall of 2000 or spring of 2001. I'd sure like to know the actual date when I first joined.
  9. Don't worry ocnblu, I read it as how you meant it. Yes, the regular service writer was on vacation last week; but he is the one that also told me that the car would be ready by the 22nd and would be calling me on Wednesday with details (no call Wednesday, left him a voicemail Thursday evening - never called me back befoire leaving for vacation). Rather, someone that I don't know named Cory called on the 26th with news that he spoke to Bob Hughes (service manager) and he said the car will be ready for me by the end of the week. No call by Thursday afternoon, so I call around 4:00 and Bob is "busy", so I'm directed to his voicemail. I state what I was told by Cory on Tuesday, that I would like to know when I can get my car tomorrow (Friday 12/29), and to please call me back. He had an opportunity to call before he left that day or at least on Friday before the holiday weekend. Even if the news wasn't what I wanted to hear, at least a call would have been the courteous thing to do. That delaership knows how happy I've been with them, but this is now pushing that envelope. I will make a call on Tuesday, more irrate than I have been to them, to find out what the deal is (I dropped the car off to them on 11/29, the bodyshop retrieved it on 11/30 - one month now!).
  10. I can't seem to find this out for sure, but does the OUTLOOK have the Heads-up Display unit (HUD) as an option too, or is it only available on the Acadia???
  11. Pretty cool find there Fly... although they missed both the '73-'87 and the '88-'98 model years - important generations nonetheless. On a personal note, I'm glad to see the '55 model made an appearance!
  12. Wow BV, you've surprised me by including me in your list - and THANKS!!! I'm not one that is in the limelight a lot around here, so I make very few lists. You made my day!!!
  13. I'm at a crossroads here (but luckily time is on my side)... my '05 Envoy lease officially expires in August of 2008; with any luck I'll have a pull-ahead program as early as February of 2008. But which one do I go with - Acadia or OUTLOOK? I have recently switched over to Saturn (first with the SKY in April and then the AURA in November), so it would only be natural to think that the OUTLOOK would be the way to go. However, the GMC fan in me does like the Acadia too. The problem so far is that I've seen the OUTLOOK numerous times (2 XR's and 3 XE's to date) but no Acadia's. And to top it off, I have the full brochure for the one that's not on the dealer's lots yet (Acadia), and sparse info on the one that is (OUTLOOK). Like I said, I have time to decide - between 13 and 19 months - but so far I like them both!
  14. Hey buddy, I know how you feel... while it only took 8 weeks (2 months) from the time the order was accepted until it arrived at the dealership, just waiting for the SKY ordering to open up felt like an eternity. You have to remember that GM/Saturn showed the darn thing for over a year before they allowed orders to be placed. I first laid my eyes on one at the February '05 Philly show, and didn't get to place my order until 13 months later. Then I had to wait an additional two months for it to be built & shipped. While you're excited about your new truck (and so am I - can't wait to see pics of it), your wait won't be nearly as long as mine was
  15. Sorry to keep bringing this back up without any good news, but now I'm getting a little ticked off. I leave a message with the service dept on the 21st.... get a call back on the 26th from someone different at the dealership saying the regular guy is off this week and that they wanted to return my call and let me know that the car should be back by the end of the week. No call by Thursday afternoon, so I call and get the service manager's voicemail since he's busy. I leave a pretty serious message saying how I was told my car would be ready by Friday and I wanted to know what time I could pick it up and to please call me back. He never called me back! So now my car has been gone an entire month (originally dropped off on Nov 29) and I don't know when I'll be getting it back. The earliest I can find out is Tuesday the 2nd.
  16. My second car was a 1992 Cavalier Z24 coupe that I bought from my cousin. I had that car from May of '94 until I gave it to my then-fiancee in April of 1998. She owned it until August of 2000, when it was traded in with approximately 70K on the odo for a leftover 2000 Grand Prix GT sedan. I wish I had the cash at the time to keep the Cavy and still get the GP, but we needed the Cavy as a trade-in/deposit. Even though a '78 Camaro was my first car (Sept '92 - May '94/sold fall '94), the Cavy was like-new (7k on the odometer when I got it and it had the balance of the 5 year/60K extended GMPP warranty included). I've always wondered what happened to it and just recently ran into a '92 Cavy Z24 that looks very much like mine, and it's parked at a local shopping center. I need to dig up the VIN from my old records and gp check out the NJ inspection sticker to see if it matches. If it does turn out to be my old Cavy, maybe I'll leave a note on the windshield telling them to contact me if and when they want to sell it.
  17. I've been thinking about getting a personalized plate for the SKY since I got it back in April... being a Star Wars fan (or geek in my wife's opinion), I was thinking DRKJEDI (Dark Jedi), LRDVADR (Lord Vader) or DRTHVDR (Darth Vader). The wife suggested OPNROAD (Open Road) and I've considered the "United We Stand" (American Flag) plate with 07SKY (five characters only). Anyone else with some suggestions for me to consider???
  18. Fly, I too have liked the '92 Skylarks for a long time. I got my driver's license in December of '91, so these were the newest GM cars out then and I would have taken a 1992 Grand Am GT coupe, Olds Achieva SC coupe or Skylark GS coupe if I had the chance (on a promotion, I got to test-drive the Achieva SC in bright red and fell in love with it!). A neighbor of mine has a '92 Skylark GS in the color combo I wanted back in '91/'92 (and no, I wasn't on drugs back then!): This car was actually for sale last spring, until the car got hit while parked on the street. The fender was replaced recently (a day or two ago) and needs paint. So I'll be keeping an eye out for the "For Sale" sign to return (not that I'd buy it, unless they want like $500 for it!).
  19. Go ahead Bob and do the right thing - put a GMC grille on it!
  20. Mike,Thanks for posting! Please don't take what I originally posted the wrong way - I just wanted to make sure that you guys were aware that it's not a Suburban. Suburban's have windows in the panel areas and typically had two- to three-rows of seats. Your truck is definitely a panel truck, which were more commonly used as delivery trucks and by many fire depts around the country. I'm a huge GMC fan, so I find all GMCs of this vintage fascinating. The fact that it lacks "bumper bullets" indicates it is a 1959 model year. It could be a 1958 model that lost the bullets somewhere along the lines, but I find that highly unlikely given the impecable state it's in. Parts for this body style were made from 1955 up to 1959, so it's possible excess inventory was used throughout the model run (taillights from '57). While not an expert on GMC's, more like a big enthusiast, I've learned things over the last decade and it helps me to identify GMCs I find or run into. For example, I helped an owner of a GMC stepvan narrow down the year range, simply by looking at the trim parts used (while it had a '47-'53 style grille, it used the hood emblem from the '55-'59 model years and the steering wheel used starting in '57 - he had been told many years back that it was either a '54, '57, or '59, and I said more likely a '57). Any idea what amount the chief has in mind? I bought a 2007 Saturn SKY in April, so I'm sure the wife would just love for me to park this in the driveway... but inquiring minds want to know! :AH-HA_wink: The big question would be how to get it back to New Jersey.... Another set of questions for you - is it four wheel drive (4wd)??? It looks like it is from the pictures, but I'm not 100% positive. Is it V8 powered, and what transmission is in it? TIA!
  21. Thanks for the birthday wish guys. Sorry I'm just responding to it now - the last week has been pretty hectic around here (getting ready for the holidays and all). Decided that a family trip to Longwood Gardens in PA was a good way to celebrate my birthday, and the family all ate together at Applebee's with the obligatory "happy birthday" dessert brought out by 10 or 15 singing Applebee's employees (my family knows how to embarass me!) that my 16-month old son was entralled with! Got a lot of stuff from the wife for the SKY - just need to get it back from the body shop (wasn't finished in time for my birthday, like I had hoped it would have been). Got the Lil Chromies (polished stainless steel door lock pulls), SKY keychain, SKYShield (wind screen) - all from kappasphere.com - and a SKY coffee mug from GMPhotoStore.com. My 12-year old gave me a Meguires Car Care Cleaning Kit and then there were other, non-car gifts (but a lot of my bday gifts were auto-related this year - about time!). Christmas was just as good too (32 years now and I have not been jipped for either my bday or Christmas). Thanks for remembering my birthday!
  22. I think the "All-GM Nationals" show at the Carlisle Fairgrounds (Carlisle, PA) would be a good place for a lot of us in the Northeast to meet (show should be in June). Actually, if there's enough interest, maybe I'll arrange for those of us that want to show off our GM vehicles there to have a club representation in the fun field (I'm looking now for places to show off the SKY in 2007 ) And for those not bringing their GM cars but will be attending the show, you can stop by to meet and greet with your fellow C&Gers. Anyone intersted?
  23. Talk about an overly large antenna... someone needs to order this Cobalt a stubby!!!
  24. Welcome mowdak1 and welcome to C&G! While your info is a little wrong - that is definitely a 1959 model year and it's a PANEL truck, not a Suburban - it is quite the find and I wish I had the money to purchase it. I'd be more than willing to bring it back to its Civil Defense look if I had it. Thanks for posting the pic, info & link. When it sells, please let us know how much they got for it.
  25. Well, a call to the dealership yesterday met with some good news - they got Saturn to send a new quarter panel directly to the body shop. The service writer stated that the car should be ready by mid-week next week; he'll call me Tuesday (19th) with an update. It looks as if my goal to have it back by my birthday (23rd) may just work out. Bad news is that when I get home, there's a letter from Allstate (insurance company of the girl that hit me) stating "an investigation of the loss is still continuing" - umm, my car is almost repaired, my insurance comapny already sent me the payment, and they're still "investigating" the accident? The police report was pretty cut-and-dry on the fact that it was her fault. Can't wait to get her back... it's been weird not seeing her inside of the garage for the last two weeks.
