  1. I'm disappointed in two options missing on the new 2015 GMC Canyon: Side view mirrors with turn signal indicator - the Holden Colorado pickup and Colorado7 SUV look to share the sideview mirrors with the N/A Colorado and Canyon (I could be mistaken though). Yet, the Holden versions have side view mirrors with turn signal indicator lights built into them whereas the GMC and Chevy do not. I'd understand if it was a top-line-package only deal, but so far none of the SLT/LTZ models shown to the public have displayed this option. Everything, and I mean everything today on the market seems to have this option covered but GM's newest mid-size pickups do not (this is an option I want to have, so I'll understand if I'm in the minority here). Rear backup sensors - seeing as how the Sierra has available rear backup sensors on the SLE and front & rear sensors on the SLT, I figured at least the SLT version of the Canyon would have rear backup sensors. Not seeing them on the Colorado left me to believe the upmarket-based Canyon would receive these as another differentiator. I know nanny gadgets are not liked by many here, but I do like having the backup senors - they were on my '03 Buick Rendezvous and it was a great feature. Almost everything sold in the market has these available on the upper level trim packages today. What do you see as missing from these new mid-sizers?
  2. I take it you went to the Carlisle-sponsored Auto Mania event in Allentown? I considered it but something else came up that I needed to attend today. In your opinion, is it worth it?
  3. What would the timeframe testing-to-production be like with this plan?
  4. I got the Haynes manual two years ago and have used it several times with success for DIY repairs to my Envoy.
  5. GM has to do something to keep buyers from going to the Ford lots in 2015
  6. Happy belated Birthday, balthazar!! I'm glad to see your day was full of excitement
  7. On the GMC website, only the black and brown/tan interior is listed as the available color options. I took your statement to verify that the website was correct in what it shows. I'm most definitely interested in the Canyon, but don't like the all-season tires on the Bronze colored SLT Crew Cab model shown. The All Terrain model is wearing the BF Goodrich all-terrain tires that I'm more interested in: I do hope that there is an option for these tires on the SLT model. Otherwise, this would be a big change needed before I drove off the dealer's lot with my new Canyon
  8. I spoke to the GM people and the answer is no, you'll have a choice of Black, or Black and gray in the Colorado. They are specifically reserving the other colors and higher end materials for the GMC. That's a shame, because I for one want the black and gray colored interior in my new Canyon, and I'm sure some Colorado buyers would want the brown and tan interior in theirs. Makes no sense to restrict color selection to one brand over another - especially since they're made in the same plant!! I can understand about the trim pieces, when you're trying to establish a luxury feel for one brand over another. So far the only exterior colors not shared between the two are the Lazer Blue (wish list item:I want a dark blue color added to the Canyon's pallette) and Yellow (which just doesn't go along with the more upscale approach being sought by GMC).
  9. As a "truck guy", initially I am not impressed with the new 2015 Ford F150. I will need to see it in person to make the final judgement but I guess I'm too much of a GM Truck Guy to really like the new Ford. I agree with many of the posts above, especially where it's mentioned that a new Super Duty-inspired front clip has been added to a rehashed current F150 body. The interior is trying to hard to be "different" and "unique", but I wouldn't say it's horrible overall. Ford will continue to do well with the F150 I'm sure.
  10. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2014/01/2015-gmc-canyon-whats-the-difference.html Mark Williams wrote a good article on the differences with the 2015 GMC Canyon and 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. I've got to say while I was impressed with the Colorado when it was first shown last month in Los Angeles, I wasn't 'wowed' enough. I figured if the Canyon was a rebadge of the Colorado (a'la 2004), then my next vehicle decision (Sierra) was easily made. No such luck; I'll have some thinking and planning to do here

  12. Yeah, I've stayed away from the comments being made by FB posters as I scanned FB for new pictures last night. They'll only ruin the high I'm feeling right now I am truly excited with the launch of the new '15 Canyon. I've got three great pickup products to choose from this year (okay, later this year but still this year). Before the launch I figured if I wasn't impressed with the Canyon then my decision was solely on the Sierra; but right now I'm loving all three (Canyon, 1500, HDs). I have to weigh out what my desires are, what my long-term goals are, and also the most important what the financial needs of my family are for the next couple of years. But I intend to make my new truck purchase last a long time and so it really has to be thought out. Like I said earlier, I've got the gift of time on my side so I will be doing lots of planning this year to make the right decision. Overall I'm just happy to be a GMC Truck enthusiast right now
  13. black-knight, it's great that you're off to a good start with your planning for 2014. When I taught high schoolers in my Career Development (9th graders) and Business Cooperative Education (12th graders) classes, I told them the key to a happy life is planning to do what makes you both happy and what you can make a living from at the same time. It's going on 4 years since I was laid-off from teaching and I really need to take my own advice about that. My wife wasn't thrilled with me being a teacher (we met while I was half-way through college and she never really thought about it too much then). But when I got my first teaching job (2000) and was a 10-month employee, she didn't like the fact there was no paycheck in July & August. It made finances tough for a young couple, especially a newly-married one at the time. A few years later I'd become an 11-month employee and was paid year-round, but the looming threat of yearly contracts was never to her liking. Being laid-off in 2002, 2009, and 2010 (which was the nail in the coffin for my teaching career as 3900 NJ teachers were without a job that year), she asked me to come over to her pharmaceutical company that was still experiencing growth (she was hired in '99 and they've only gotten bigger over the years). I made the change - happy wife, happy life. But here I am almost 4 years later and I can't say I'm a happy worker. I'm addicited to the salary I earn in addition to the perks I receive for working for a successful company, but overall I'm not a medical-industry enthusiastic worker. If I am to grow in my role or consider higher paths, it will require that I get medical training and that is no where near my interests or plans. Some days I regret not pursuing a more blue-collar job path (no puns intended) - a job where I'm expected to do X every day and get paid for doing that X job well. This white collar job has way too many expectations on me and I need to figure something out soon because I don't think my mental health can last too much longer (the worst thing to happen will be exploding over something trivial because of my pent-up emotions). Long story, but I commend you for finding a path that makes you happy. This has got to be my goal for 2014 career-wise. As for your automotive desires, I totally get it. From April '99 to November '07, I was leasing a new GM vehcicle every 30 months (factor I got the wife involved in this too August '00 and I've had quite a bit of cars in my possession). I was like ocnblu, getting something new in less than 3 years GMAC offered great lease deals where I put minimal amounts of money down and had awesome monthly payments on new vehicles that caught our attention. I was living the high life, experiencing what I considered automotive nirvana. But then the gas price increase and financial crisis of 2008/2009 came along and the auto companies got out of leasing. Bad financial planning came to bite us in the end, along with no savings to rely on. My automotive world was turned upside down, as when the time came and I had to turn in my leased vehicles I could no longer 'lease' something new and credit was not extended to less-than-stellar credit scores. My wife had to go with a decently equipped '08 Pontiac G6 (MSRP $24k) because that was what out budget allowed. In '09 I thought that by going really used ('96 Cadillac Fleetwood) and paying off a small loan in 12-months would aid me in getting some savings together to make a new purchase in '11; the Caddy's needs drained even more money, then I was told we were expecting again for '10. I figured before my credit tanked even further down the drain I'd better get something decent from the CPO world (that's how I ended up with my '06 Envoy) - though I paid a lot wiith high interest. The lesson I've learned is that I needed to live within my means. I do intend on getting a new GMC this year (or early 2015), but it will be something within my budget taking into consideration that there are other financial needs (i.e. family); no more whimsical leases like in the past. What does this have to do with you? Well, you're young and adventurous and have many desires. But lack of financial planning for the future as you spend what you earn on cars will bite you later down the road. Find what makes you happy and can last you a long time and invest in that rather than continously making bad automotive financial decisions. I post a lot on here about older GMC truck projects I want to consider, but ultimately a poster will say the magic words (dealing with time, money, tools & work space) that I know I'm not factoring in my fancy dream plans and I come to my senses. Think logically about your automotive wants/needs; spend the $$$ on the Charger if that is what will really make you enjoy the car more, or decide what it is you really want (say a brand new Jeep Wrangler) and then figure out how to make it happen (skimp on the project chasing, don't invest in fancy projects on the Charger, put X amount of dollars away into a savings plan from each paycheck, etc). It may take you some time to get it, but if you put your money to work in better ways (save rather than spend), you might be able to get what you really want in the long run. I hope you find this helpful!
  14. LOL! I've been waiting a long time to really be motivated to purchase a new vehicle again. I love my '06 Envoy (bought CPO March '10), but I haven't been drawn to anything enough to part ways with the 'Voy. The 2014 Sierra definitely caught my attention, but budgets being what they are I have to make sure to make the best financial decision I can (monthly payment, insurance payment and gas costs all need to be factored). In my planning I could likely get a Sierra 1500 but it would stretch the budget for the next 5-6 years; a 2500 is more of a pipe dream (it's like someone buying a Camaro SS and wanting a ZL-1; it's more for the look than the capabilities). However, with the Canyon I'm assuming I'd more than likely be able to go with a top-of-the-line model and the size and expected FE gains over the full-size should aid in the budget better. But who ever said humans make wise financial decisions when emotions are involved??? I've got the gift of time at my side right now
  15. My next new vehicle, hopefully this year. I really want a Sierra 2500 HD crew cab, but that's just wishful thinking (with the recent price increases made to the 1500's, I know the 2500's will be priced sky high too). Plus I have to consider fuel economy along with the monthly payment and insurance costs, so that makes the Canyon a near-perfect solution. Just need to make sure the family will be comfortable in this for the next several years (growing family - 3 & 8 year olds). Anyone with a serious contact at GM - please pass the word on for me that I want a DARK BLUE exterior color offered on the Canyon. No electric/bright blue for this "truck guy". My 2001 GMC Sonoma Highrider was ordered in Indigo Blue Metallic, I'd love to get my new Canyon in a similar shade of dark/navy blue too.
  16. Heated Steering Wheel... Oh Yeah!! The wife requires heated seats, I hate cold hands. This will be a welcomed option for me. I love that the Canyon will have specific options not available on the Colorado, like the two-speed transfer case/AutoTrac 4WD system (Colly has the ones-speed transfer case), the 4.2" color DIC (Colly's got a 3.4") and upgraded interior materials (real aluminum, wood trim and soft-touch materials.
  17. I really didn't comprehend GMC's small-medium-large approach with the Canyon, Sierra 1500 and Sierra 2500/3500 until I saw this picture tonight:
  18. Just saw the SLT model... and it wears just the right amount of chrome to satisfy my needs!! The Canyon fixes everything about the Colorado I didn't like. No way will people say the Canyon and Colorado are rebadges of one another this round (cab is the same and partial bed is similar, but GMC definitely got a difference from the Chevy this go-round). Oh boy, I think I know what new GMC will occupy my driveway this year
  19. The frontend is heavily based off of the Sierra, but much better looking in my opinion. I LOVE the headlights - that's doing the LED strips right. All Terrain model is what I saw, not my cup o' tea but I can't wait to see what the SLT Crew Cab long bed model will look like. I may just once again put off purchasing a Sierra for the new Canyon
  20. I've seen the 2015 GMC Canyon and all I can say is, OMG!! I've waited all day and it finally leaked about 10 minutes ago (check Facebook).
  21. 10 years ago I would have jumped all over this '91 V1500 Suburban.... http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/4235350808.html It's even in my price range!! But having a SUV the past several years I'm more about the pickup nowadays.
  22. This '91 V3500 Crew Cab Dually is just awesome... http://www.ebay.com/itm/GMC-Other-Dually-4x4-1991-gmc-crew-cab-dually-4-x-4-/131086665828?forcerrptr=true&hash=item1e855fc864&item=131086665828&pt=US_Cars_Trucks#ht_852wt_1362 No way is that in the budget!!! I've asked my parents if they'd advance me my inheritence for this one: http://lancaster.craigslist.org/cto/4277317361.html Anyone close by Holtwood, PA?
  23. Went to a local Chevy dealer to check out their 2014 SS Sedan in black last night, even got a brochure on it. Salesman said it was the only one they were getting in, as Chevy was only importing 1200 units for 2014 (not sure if that's true or not, haven't followed this car too closely). Was impressed with the interior, still prefer the look of the Caprice PPV over the SS Sedan. On my way home snapped some shots of it in the showroom from outside the closed dealership: [/url] Saw one of those handicap-derived vans that look like a bloated Honda Element in the "real world" this week on my way to work. I saw these only at the 2011 or 2012 NYIAS on display; never out on the road: Nothing fantastic, but I still love the design of the last generation GMC TopKick and Chevy Kodiak medium-duty trucks. I'm glad I get to see many configurations of these still as PSE&G (Public Service Electric & Gas) bought emense quantities of these trucks from 2003 until the end of production. I always like seeing these crew cab models:
  24. I noticed the distortion in the dually right away. Like I said, that one's out of my price range so it's all wishing thinking. I'm a big fan of the '70s styling and color palette. I found a '82 GMC Sierra from Alabama on sale in NJ, brought up here 2 years ago and stored in a garage. Not a fan of the '81-'82 frontend styling (turn signals in the bumper, grille style). I do like the look of the '83-'84s, but prefer the '85-'87 and '89-'91 R/V3500 of all the '80s GMCs. There's no rush in me going for a project. Soon I hope to divert a little more cash to this under-funded stash which may allow me to go for a nicer rig. I was just curious if anyone thought that those two trucks would make one good rig in the end and if it was all worth it (initial cost, amount of work needed, and time). I'm sure next week I'll be onto something different
