Circuit City to liquidate remaining US stores
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Intrepidation's topic in The Lounge
Yeah, back in the late '70s and early '80s my aunt used to get the JC Penney and BEST store catalogs that I would look over until the pages were worn out. We got the SEARS catalog and I did the same thing to it. Today's holiday catalogs (I picked up JC Penney's this year) just aren't like the good ol' days. -
I was surprised to see that GM put this 1916 GMC truck up for sale (I mean, how many 1916 GMCs do they have???). And I was even more surprised to learn that this truck has a matching trailer that went with the sale (I've seen this truck 2 or 3 times in person at truck shows, but never the trailer and was never told about the trailer). Well, the truck & matching trailer sold for $140,000. It was today's highest seller (well, at least for the next 20-30 minutes that I watched). I hope that it ends up in a museum and that I see it and the trailer again.

I visited this dealer's lot back in August when the town it's in (Riverside) sponosred a huge town-wide car show. There's about 2 dozen old, classic vehicles on the lot. I had to look in from the street only, as the yard is fenced in and the dealer was closed at the time. This looks an awful lot like the customized '57 Chevy pickup that sold at the B-J Auction last Tuesday night too.

boy??? 'Guy' - it says guy. Thanks for answering YJ. Yes, the wonderful 2000 GMC Terradyne concept truck. A ton of innovations that GM justed let go by, and other manufacturers have picked up and used (bed storage space, for example). Here's a link for some more information and pictures. BTW, here's a picture from the video that was shown at the display of the Terradyne in motion on the 'street' that's a favorite of mine:

Wednesday night I watched for a bit when a beautifully restored '58 Chevy Apache 31 NAPCO 4WD Standard Pickup was auctioned off. The "talking heads" repeatedly stated that GM introduced factory 4WD in 1960, then stated 'maybe it was '59', and then said that Ford was the first to offer factory 4WD in 1957. GM was the first to offer factory-installed 4WD, starting with GMC in 1956 and then adding Chevy for 1957. However, NAPCO emblems were no longer used if ordered & installed from the factory (dealers could still convert 2WD pickups using NAPCO 4WD systems, and a NAPCO emblem would be installed). These 'talking heads' aren't very knowledgable, nor entertaining when they make so many errors (the '58 Chevy pickup was just one example; I heard many other mistakes on Tuesday night too).

You and me alike. However, I've begun to wonder if GM hasn't already scrapped the Terrain. The last "camo'ed" spy shots were taken in November, there's been no mention of the Terrain for release at Chicago or NY, nothing new in the news about it, and Chris hasn't responded to any of my requests for in about it in any of the threads posted around C&G.

Brand Total Sales 2008 #1 - Chevrolet - 1,801,131 #2 - GMC - 376,996 #3 - Pontiac - 267,348 #4 - Saturn - 188,004 #5 - Cadillac - 161,159 #6 - Buick - 137,197 #7 - HUMMER - 27,485 #8 - Saab - 21,368 ( ) Some food for thought... I'm impressed with Buick's sales #s when compared to Saturn. Buick only has three models which yes, sold 51,000 units less than Saturn, but Saturn has five models (two more than Buick) to cover more of the market. And consider that Buick's lineup is not for the "younger buyer", whereas Saturn's is, and look at how much Buick sold (I have friends in their young to mid 30's that bought Enclaves and Acadias and never once looked at the OUTLOOK). For those of you saying to cut GMC, are you willing to give up 300+k worth of sales? I think GM and GM-enthusiasts learned that not all of those sales will go to another GM brand (i.e. Chevrolet, and Saturn and Buick in the case of the Lambdas). And Pontiac at #3 with 260k sales - my wife wouldn't look at the Malibu (Chevrolet) and didn't want an AURA (Saturn), but fell in love with the G6. Don't think that Pontiac has lost all of their flare in the marketplace yet. It's true that the company we love and cherish has to make decisions that we all aren't going to agree with or like. I'd personally hate to see GMC and Pontiac go, and am one of the few here that like Saturns and to a point will be saddened by their disappearance, but I'd rather see GM survive. Like Camino has said time and time again, politics is at play here more than the company's and economy's best interest and for that reason alone I am not thrilled with GM lately.

Camino, there's a quote I have that I think may help you deal with this situation and motivate you to put your anger towards something more positive: Anyway, getting back to the point of this topic, I'll post a picture of ocnblu's previous vehicle, the 2007 GMC Sierra, as a reminder of how nice that truck was, especially the sound of the custom exhaust, as my suggestion (although I know you said you were through with GM, you can't deny how nice these new trucks are): And if you must, a regular cab, shortbed Chevy Silverado is *almost* just as nice as the GMC Sierra

Congrats on the new Silverado!! It sure is a beauty. Here's to thousands of enjoyable, safe, and memorable motoring miles with it. And like you and 2005 Equinox LS, I am patiently waiting until I can help GM out this year too. My GMAC SmartLease doesn't 'officially' end until November, but I'm hoping that GMAC will allow me out without making payments starting around May (I can see a new vehicle in June or July). That's also assuming there is a GM alive and well come late spring/summer
-
Camino, have you tried contacting Scott/fbodyfather yet??? Maybe he can sneak you one for a decent price. God knows GM needs the cash!!
-
Geez, maybe Chrysler is putting GM's canned GMC Denali XT concept to use? GM should have not dropped the ball with ZETA, rather give it to the truck lines as a lighter-duty, car-based pickup for the 21st century.

It was a "big girl" seat - they were referencing the seats in the 2nd & 3rd rows in the Traverse are "adult" sized, whereas the Toyota offers these "tiny" little seats (the commercial shows a child's booster seat in the Traverse's adult-sized seat). There's at least 2-3 of these Traverse vs. it's competition commercials being aired right now. They're all pretty good IMHO.

My preference in root beer starts with Stewarts, and if I can't get Stewarts root beer then I go for A&W. No others - that's it for me!!

Okay, it's 12:03 AM... an hour and 11 minutes since you posted this!!
-
Okay then... will it be posted in here???

+1 Pics???

I was going to go to bed in 5 minutes... is it worth waiting 30 more minutes???

That's a hot looking '56 Chevy!! Where'd you get it at? I picked up this HW '56 Chevy Nomad at Wal-Mart right after the holidays: They offered the Holiday Rods in two different colors, the ice-blue pictured (the color I bought) and a lighter lime green.

Camino, you know you have my sympathies too. Being a GM truck enthusiast, I was excited to see this product return to the marketplace. It might not have sold in the volumes an outsider would have expected it to, but the true enthusiasts would appreciate GM giving them a vehicle they wanted. I couldn't wait to see them in the dealerships, and on the road too (I'm sure it would be far between spottings, much like the G8 sedan, but it would be fun to see them regardless). I know it may be hard to believe for some, seeing as how it was only shown in concept with no real backing for production, but this is how I felt when the GMC Denali XT was taken out of consideration (I was looking forward to seeing that come to market).

XP, I just sent you a message regarding an e-mail I received about this truck.

I am considering buying a used full-size pickup or SUV. I would possibly be driving a used '05 GMC Yukon XL SLT right now if the AURA wasn't a factor (the dealership I went to could do nothing to aid in ridding me of the AURA payment-free, so I had to pass). However, I want NEW and I like NEW. I like being the only person that has owned the vehicle. What is making me seriously consider USED is the fact that I can get something I want (i.e. full-size pickup or SUV) at an affordable price (for example, there is no way I can get a 2009 GMC Sierra SLE Crew Cab 4WD Z71 like I want NEW, but I could possibly get a gently used Sierra or Yukon XL instead). My problem is that I have 10 remaining payments on the AURA and the only way out of it for a USED vehicle is to pay those remaining payments (more like rolling those payments into a new loan). So I have to be patient and wait it out a little longer.

Still looking for an '80s longbed stepside? Here's an 1984 GMC Sierra with 4WD and the 6.2l Diesel engine for sale in central NJ (in Allentown <NJ>, not far from the NJ Turnpike exit 7A): http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/974934411.html I was very interested in looking into this, but I want to find something I can enjoy right away and not have to worry about where money is going to come from to make needed repairs to make it a driver.

ocnblu, I have Monday, January 19th off for MLK's birthday observance, then Monday, February 16th off for President's Day, and then Spring Break in April (10th-17th). Teaching does have its benefits!!

Thanks for the reply and info WMJ!! I e-mailed the seller for more pictures, but a google search of his phone number retunred the town he lives in or around - which is VERY close to me. I think it warrants me calling him tomorrow and going to see it real soon. I just have no mechanical or body skills, so any work it needs will take some time as I raise cash. I like the colors, plus the rarity of this truck. Being that it will be 25 years old this year, I can register it in NJ as "classic" and it cuts down on registration and insurance costs. As for XP: (Jedi mind trick) XP, you do not see this truck, nor will you remember seeing this post.
