I love the styling of the HHR, but it's too small for my tastes. I was hoping for the Terrain, but I guess now I'll have to cross that off my shopping list too (or at least when GM has the balls to announce its cancellation).

What??? I was looking forward to seeing pictures of it this time next week from the Chicago media days

Quit with the suspense and tell us what brand/model pickup it is! (personally, I think it's a Ford F150)
-
Well, the main thing is that you were able to get out of the car safely. It did its job for you and took the loss. Of course you now have to figure things out, but at least recovery from injuries aren't on the list.

LOL @ Sixty8!!

If you don't mind me asking, what size are you guys? (I'm considering the G8 myself, and I'm 5'9" and 240lbs)

What is your next car purchase? revisited...
GMTruckGuy74 replied to intrigued's topic in The Lounge
Seeing as how my SmartLease doesn't expire until November (and if all I get is a two-month pull-ahead offer so I get out in mid-August), if GMAC offers some good end-of-the-model year incentives, I will definitely look into a Pontiac G8 GT (if the 3.6 DI engine is out by then, maybe I will consider a non-GT too). But it all leans on how much I like the GMC Terrain when I see it in person at the NYIAS in April and if incentives on the Acadia/Enclave/OUTLOOK are good too. I prefer to have a CUV over a car, but I can't disagree that the Pontiac G8 GT is a car to own -
Post #3, by Oldsmoboi: Olds, I say go for the Bravada and find an '04 model. It will be somethng you'll be happy to drive!!

You know the whole world has gone mad...

Sixty8, you do realize that DF was referring to your typo of "hose", and not a Ta-hoe, right?!?! -
So, do 2000 and 2001 models make good used vehicles then? I've always liked the Catera myself, even had the opportunity to test-drive one brand new upon their intro in '97 (my first brand-new Cadillac test drive). I had a student that graduated two years ago get one from a family member as his first used car (I want to say it was a '98 model). He said it didn't give him any problems, but he only had it for 3 months before he graduated and I haven't seen him since. A teenager near my development that attends my step-son's high school drives a late '90s silver/gray one that I see often. Makes me still want one!

Off topic, but I grew up in Ewing (resident from 1974 <o years old> to 1999 <24 years old>) and went to school with a ton of kids that had parent's employed at the GM plant. I attended the "final farewell" that GM opened to the public back in the summer of 1998, the only time I was ever inside of the plant (drove by that sucker millions of times though and knew many a retired resident that worked there). I was saddened to see the place demolished shortly after that, and haven't been by there in over two years.

I had a 2005 GMC Envoy SLT 4WD with the Atlas I-6 and the only warranty work done on the engine was the replacement of a faulty idler pulley. It spent most of it's time in 2HI and gave me 16 MPG (averaged city/hwy). I loved the Atlas I-6 and felt it was plenty powerful when I drove it, whether it was loaded or not. A friend of mine purchased a 2005 Buick Rainier CXL AWD a week after I got the Envoy and he had no problems with it for the two & a half years he owned it (he traded it in for a new Enclave due to the amount of miles he was putting on it). I think as long as you stay with a 2004 Bravada you should be good; 2WD or AWD is up to you (2WD will be better in MPG and less costly on maintenance). Good luck with your hunt!!

What if GM/Chevy won't sell you a Colorado SS?
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Chevrolet
That was a 2005 SEMA show truck, called the Canyon AT4 (GMC also did a Sierra Crew Cab as an AT4). The Canyon AT4, if I'm not mistaken, was sold at the recent Barrett-Jackson auction. I think the front end would have made a good MCE for 2008/2009 the latest. -
+1 - I agree completely. The wife suggested to me that I should buy a minivan this year when my AURA lease is up, but I told her GM doesn't make one. She then suggested that I should look outside of GM for one, but I told her I'm too much of a big fan of the GM Kool-Aid to do that. Though, GM should have made a minivan off of the Lambda or TE platforms for those that don't want or need a SUV or CUV.

FOG's got it right... a CUV for every buyer. As much as I think the Equinox is nice, I prefer the boxier styling of the Terrain more (that's because I like trucks more than cars), so I wouldn't look at the Chevy and the Cadillac will more than likely be out of my price range. And depending on when you grew up, the CUV is the prefered family "truckster" of the day and age. '50s-'70s it was the station wagon, '80s-'90s it was the mini-van, the first half of this decade was the SUV, and now with MPG concerns, the CUV is in the limelight for the second half. Case in point, my sister (38 years old), who has two kids and is very much a "soccer mom", will NEVER buy a minivan. She's leased a Grand Cherokees, a Nissan Pathfinder, a GMC Envoy XL, and now a Honda Pilot. In two/three years when she goes to replace the Honda, I bet you dollars to doughnuts it will be for another CUV. As many of the posters here think GM is late to the game with these cute-ute's, you have to realize all they're doing is updating the current ones that arrived on the market - 2001 ('02 VUE), 2003 ('04 Equinox), and 2004 ('05 Torrent). Those product cylces have ended and it's time to update them as required by the consumer. As for the SRX, the current one wasn't cutting it in the marketplace (trust me I like it a lot, but it was styled too much like a station wagon for many people's tastes). The new SRX will fit in better in the marketplace (think MDX, RX350, MkX, etc. - even if those are slightly larger or smaller than the SRX). While we enthusiasts might not like it replacing the current SRX, let's see what the consumers who want to and do buy it say.

GM gives dealers some breathing room on Saturn
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in General Motors
Yeah, I agree about that fact. I really like the OUTLOOK the best of the four Lambdas, but if I buy it and Saturn closes, the resale value will be nothing. -
A neighbor of mine was a big-wig at the DCH Saturn dealership in East Brunswick up until a year, year and a half ago - he switched over to their Infinity dealership (maybe he saw the writing on the wall?). Don't know him personally, but he used to drive home new Saturns until one day I noticed no more Saturns and that a new Infinity took over the garage space. It's a shame, but maybe this is GM's goal - scare the crap out of Saturn dealers by saying that the brand will disappear in 4 years and give them no new products or refreshes, leaving these dealers with no other choice but to close up to avoid a loss of sales/earning dollars. GM loses Saturn and in the process doesn't have to pay out of their pocket for lawsuits. As for the Chevy dealer, sorry to see such history gone. Those dealers have made their money by now (well, likely just the owners), so they're not pobably too concerned. My local BPG dealership's owner was this way - he owned the brands for 25 years and was ready to retire - GM was all too happy to take the franchise back and not sell it to anyone else. Remember that GM wants to trim their dealerships back from 6,000 to 4,000. This is how GM will accomplish that goal.
-
While I like the new 2010 Equinox, I prefer my trucks (and 'trucklets') to have more of a truckier shape to them - or as you call it, "blocky". Though the Terrain will be a soft-roader, I don't want it to look any less of a truck.
-
Well, remember that the GMC Envoy has left to make way for the roomier and better MGP-achiever Acadia, and Pontiac is "losing" the Torrent and GMC is "gaining" the Terrain in its place. So the Terrain takes the place of both the Torrent and the Envoy.

Re-read this part... So basically what was a 5.3L V8 was transformed into a 6.0L V8. -
Article here. Video of truck in action here. Picture gallery here.

Sorry about that. Hopefully the new pic remains.

I was wondering the same thing, and was going to post about that, but after making my initial post the site went down!! I also see "Sierra" in the headlights, and maybe more cues from it and the Acadia in it's design too. Also, I'm getting a GMC Graphyte design vibe from the frontend. Here's the Graphyte, in case anyone else sees it too: I wonder what other design cues were used from this concept??

AND sir!!

Thanks for posting this DF... I've been waiting very patiently for more news on the Terrain. So far I'm liking what I'm seeing, and this one is the more upscale version (notice the chrome door handles, mirror caps, and the chrome rims <which I'm liking a lot>). I also like the fender flares that are noticeable in these shots (hopefully they're not just part of the camo package). And I'm hoping that more un-camo'ed shots start showing up soon. I don't know if my patience can wait much longer until the Chicago show arrives (20-21 more days to the media preview)!!
