  1. Well dfelt, I'm beating you to unemployment by 2 days (June 24th), but due to "contract dates" I can't apply for state unemployment benefits until July 1 ocnblu, sorry to hear about the latest job news/rumors. Hopefully things pick back up very soon and you can start working on your new truck plan again.
  2. I know I already submitted the '61 & '62 Pontiacs, but I'd also love to have a '68 Firebird 400 coupe or convertible, like this one:
  3. I've liked the El Camino and Sprint/Caballero for a long time, even looked for a decent late '70's to early '80s when I was shopping for my first car (no luck). I recently went to look at one I passed ont he side of the road for sale - an '83 El Camino. The body was decent (looked like it was stored in the barn it was parked next to, if not the larger tractor garage), the interior seemed to be in really good shape, no idea of the mileage or what was under the hood, but it was a bench seat model with roll-up windows & manual locks and the owner was asking $6,000 for it No way was it worth that much, and even at half that price I'd still be walking away. I don't know how long it's been sitting there (maybe a month), but I'll keep an eye on it to see when it sells.
  4. I've been wondering how long you'd be able to hold out without owning a pickup truck Not that the Cobalt isn't nice, but I don't think it's really you. I think you should have held onto the Sierra, but seeing as how you've been a long-time GM small truck owner, I could see you back in a GMT-355 (I'm glad you're going with the GMC Canyon! ). Keep us posted on what you decide to do!
  5. I wonder how many 2009 Canyons and Colorados were ordered with the 5.3L V8? And I wonder how much longer GM will allow customers to order a V8 in these mid-size trucks???
  6. 1961 Ventura: OR 1962 Grand Prix (or a Catalina would do too!):
  7. I know this might sound petty, but is it possible to move all of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox posts to their rightful place - with the CHEVROLET TRUCKS? GM & Chevy do consider this to be a truck model and when you look on the online ordering guide, the Equinox is listed under the Chevy Trucks link with all of the other pickups, SUVs, and CUVs. Thanks in advance for your consideration!!
  8. This is all great news about the press acceptance of the new Equinox. I can't wait for them to get their hands on the GMC Terrain, though I think they'll be more critical of it's 'assertive' styling. I'm happy to see GM finally make a CUV worth buying and can't wait until both the Equinox and Terrain hit the dealers lots for me to test drive them.
  9. Most schools in the United States not only offered the driver's ed class (course) where you learned about the rules of the road and being a responsible driver, but also offered 'behind the wheel' classes (some did during the entire year while others only in the summer). I was ahigh school student in the early '90s and my district got rid of the 'behind the wheel' course due to budget cuts; a lot of other schools in my area did too - and one of the reasons was due to teh popularity of the private driving schools that could offer evening & weekend hours. Think about the costs a school district had to incur: the teacher(s) salaries, the maintenance & insurance costs of the cars, plus any incidentals. I know the town my cousin lived in had the cars donated by the local Ford dealership on a year-by-year basis - it was free advertising for them. My town bought their cars and kept them maybe 4 years? But it wasn't uncommon in the States for public schools to offer 'behind the wheel' courses and nowadays not so much.
  10. Camino, I know how you feel... with all of the negative news surrounding GM, the cancellation of Pontiac, then add in the economy in shambles, my own personal finances in shambles, and the fact that I lose my job on june 24th (and then add in that I had to give up on getting the '87 GP I was looking at for the last year, in addition to the SKY back in Dec '07), I haven't been the happiest person to be around the past several months. On top of that there's the issue regarding my leased car that's up in November - I was hoping to be able to take advantage of a pull-ahead int he summer and get something new, but with no job after June 24th I can't worry about a new car this early (if a pull-ahead offer was given to me). Then there's the worry about finding a new teaching job, or if not teaching, what I am qualified for outside of teaching. Too much to have on one plate. I'm screaming on the inside
  11. Yeah, I agree with those that find the Venza ugly The Toyota sheeple that want something more [sic] stylish [sic] than their Sienna minivan now have another option with the Venza.
  12. Glad to see another oldie is sticking around :AH-HA_wink:
  13. Driving School: '89 Chevy Cavalier coupe (early June, 1991) Learner's Permit Driving: mom's '83 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ & dad's '88 Ford Ranger XLT (between late June and December, 1991) Driver's Test - my cousin's '81 Buick Regal coupe (used December 22 & 23, 1991) My first car - 1978 Chevy Camaro LT (purchased in late August of 1992; used mom or dad's car once I got my license because money was tight)
  14. A very happy birthday to you sir! Enjoy your day!!
  15. Well, count me in this group. I've been leasing my vehicles for ten years now (May '99), usually for 30 months at a time (all 36 month terms, but I've had some good pull-ahead offers in that time). When my '07 AURA GMAC SmartLease expires in November, that's it for me as leasing is no longer offered "economically". The wife went to financing last June with her G6, and it's likely that car will last us for 7-8 years God willingly. Depending on my employment status, I will be buying my next vehicle and planning to keep it for more than 5 years too. The good old days of getting a new vehicle every 30-36 months is over for me now
  16. Well, when you go on the "GM Test Track" ride at Epcot in Walt Disney World, the que line basically tells you about the development of the test dummies by General Motors, even showing you the range of dummies available (children, women & men of various sizes and weight classifications, including pregnant women).
  17. The only 2-door GMT-400 SUV I've ever driven was a new 1994 Blazer Silverado with the diesel engine at Reedman Chevrolet in Langhorne, PA. I got to drive it while my best-friend was car shopping for a new '95 Beretta Z26! Those diesels did exist, though this one was a leftover at the time (I drove it in the fall of '94 as the new '95 models were starting to arrive <with the new interior>). Oh, and if GM would have issued a 2-door full-size SUV like that white or red one, I would have ordered one back in 2001 when I ordered a Sonoma Highrider. I love that picture of the white Tahoe with wheel flares!
  18. Oh why did I have to lose my job?!?! So close I can just about to see it from my house (lol!). And it's in my favorite color too. I wonder how many miles are on it?
  19. I really hate you for posting this... I haven't been able to get it off my mind all day!!
  20. All-GM Nationals show at Carlisle Fairgrounds, June 26-28, 2009: http://www.carlisleevents.com/ce/events/gm-nationals/ Post if you're going, what day (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday), and if you'll be showing or selling a GM car or truck. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I'll be there with the family on Saturday; not showing or selling though.
  21. [insert character from Family Guy] Hahaha... it's funny because it's true!
  22. Well yeah, that prompted me to post about the Franklin Mint version!
  23. After getting an e-mail from the Franklin Mint about a limited-edition, web-exclusive Mercedes gullwing diecast model, I decided to check out their website to see if any new GM models were available. While disappointed that the offerings have been trimmed, they do have the following for sale: 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Hardtop Coupe (in two colors): 1957 Chevy Bel Air "Fuelie": 1956 Chevy Cameo Pickup: I'm particularly interested in the '56 Cameo, as this is the first time a 1956 model is being offered (Franklin Mint has done the '55 Cameo and Danbury Mint offers the '57 Cameo). Now hopefully DM offers a '58, as they have both the stepside and fleetside '58 models available, and all four years of the Cameo can be had in fine scale.
  24. Well, the article that this list came from (and sorry I didn't post it too) stated that this list was a "work-in-progress", as Edmunds was calling the dealers that their sources gave them to verify before putting on this list. I find it hard to believe that there's not one from NJ, as I know a few dealers that should be closed.
  25. Check out this link for a state-by-state list of GM dealerships set to close by 2010, courtesy of Edmunds.com: http://www.edmunds.com/industry-car-news/G...closing.html#PA
