Can't wait TED! Anymore pictures of the Lambda-based minivans?? Any other Pontiac and GMC pictures? Thanks for doing this for us to enjoy
-
You mean like this one: Spotted it at a local car show this past weekend. Pretty nice car, I think the first I've seen in this color (on a '68 - '69 A-body).

Within the last year I've begun taking pictures of dealership signs. This Olds sign is from Charles Oldsmobile-Cadillac in Britsol, PA. When Olds closed the Caddy business stayed open, but I don't know for how long. I know that the Caddy business hasn't been in operation since 2007 the earliest, atleast that's when I went by there to see what cars they had for sale and noticed it was closed. When I took this picture last September (the Caddy sign was no where to be seen), the dealership was in the process of being transformed into an Amish market. I have not been in that part of town in a while, so I have no idea if the sign is still there or if its been removed.

2008 Pontiac G6 summer clean-up
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
I finally made the time to go out and get some more pictures of the G6 (rain is predicted for the remainder of the week, so it was today or no other time rain-free). Knowing that many would not be interested in all of the shots I took, here are the six I like best: Enjoy!! -
While watching the Jimmy Fallon Late Show tonight, there was a pretty well-known actor that stated he provides the voice-over of the GMC tagline "GMC Trucks - We Are Professional Grade". Who is this actor???

Tested :Chevy Traverse LTZ... Could B Better than my Tahoe
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Chevrolet
I'm considering a Lambda as my next vehicle, and while the only one I've driven is the Buick Enclave (spring, 2008), I'd go with the GMC Acadia (the wife still prefers the Buick, with the Chevy next in line). Though I want a fully-loaded SLT-2 AWD Acadia, I'll be lucky to afford a decently-optioned SLE FWD Acadia. I still wish GM offered a minivan based on the Lambda architecture, maybe a little smaller and lower to the ground. But I'd be fine with the CUV version!! -
What - no love for GMTruckGuy74??? You go out of your way to find a '55 Ford pickup, but no GMCs??? J/K man, thanks for taking the pictures and posting them here. I've only been to about 4 or 5 junkyards since 1991, and like camino said about those around him in PA, they're all but disappearing here in NJ too. I have to find the pictures I took back in 2002 from a PA junkyard (in Morrisville, Bucks County, PA) and get them scanned in. Keep them coming!!

YJ's post was very good, as Pontiac supplied the V8 engines for GMC trucks from '55-59 - though you wouldn't want to put one of those V8s into a Pontiac car. The engines were tuned for truck use - more low-end torque for pulling and hauling rather than off-the-line performance. You might want to check this site out too for more info: link

2008 Pontiac G6 summer clean-up
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
Thanks Walt! And I totally understand where you're coming from. My wife works with a lady who had a 2006 G6 GT with the panoramic sunroof and besides that giving her problems, she had several other mechanical issues too (GM ended up "lemon-lawing" it and she did stay with Pontiac though - I think my wife said she went with a G5?). That scared my wife a bit but I told her to relax as the panoramic sunroof, as you already stated, was not an option for '08. My dad owns a 2006 G6 V6 Sedan and other than some minor warranty issues in the past 3 years, he's had a very reliable and dependable car - I told her to look at his car as evidence that not all G6s are bad. I'm sure you see it too up in the central part of the state, but down in southern NJ there are a ton of Pontiac G6s on the roads. Pontiac sure did make a lot of these cars and lately it has been their volume seller. If you look at it as the Grand Am's replacement (and I guess spiritually the Alero's too), and not the savior of Pontiac, then you can see that it's not as bad a car as some enthusiasts make it out to be. daves87rs, the wax was a great suggestion and so far it gives the paint a shiny, glassy appearance. Surprisingly, I had a small container of the Meguiars NXT Gen "ALL METAL" polish (paste) for the wheels - must have bought that for my SKY and forgot about it. It was not as easy to take off on the rims (a lot of elbow grease was needed!), but the rims look great. I also have a bottle of Mothers Chrome Wheel Polish that I'll try in the fall instead and compare the results. I want to take the G6 out int he rain to see how well the wax works, but at the same time I don't want to get it dirty so soon!! -
2008 Pontiac G6 summer clean-up

Even when it was dirty, we'd get compliments on its color - White Diamond Tricoat. Now all washed, waxed & detailed, I got a ton of compliments every where I took it today. It pays to spend a day or two to clean-up your ride. My neighbor/friend came over and joked with me on Saturday. He asked if I was trading it in... I responded, "No, why do you ask?" and he replied, "I've only seen you do this level of work when your getting ready for a new vehicle!" That's true, as in the past (last May/June with the Envoy) when a lease was a couple of months away from ending I'd give the leased vehicle this amount of attention (yeah, I know - at the end when I couldn't enjoy all my hard work). I told him since this one will eventually be paid off & owned for a while I need to start protecting my investment I know not a lot of posters on C&G appreciate or like the Pontiac G6, but it isn't as bad of a car as many think. Yes, Pontiac/GM should have put more $$$ into it's MCE and done it 2-3 years earlier, and yes, Pontiac/GM should have put out a few more bucks at its inital launch for a more upscale interior, but for a daily driver this car is well-equipped and comfortable and has yet to let me, or more importantly the wife, down. Although I wanted the car in Performance Red Tintcoat, I can admit that the G6 looks great in White Diamond Tricoat and has given the car a lot of positive attention from non-Pontiac and GM car owners. Hopefulyl I can get out and get some more pictures before the rain gets here. I was too busy today and tomorrow's not looking any better. -
Would you happen to know if the GMCs were of a '55-'56 vintage??? If yes, and they have their original steering wheel in them (see pic:) I'd appreciate if you could find out how much they want for the steering wheel. I'm looking for one in good condition (preferably not cracked/needing repair <needing paint is okay>). Then let me know if you're capable fo taking it off and I'll pay you for the wheel, shipping, and your time & effort - if you would accept. Let me know - TIA!!

2008 Pontiac G6 summer clean-up
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
I easily spent 45 minutes just removing dead bugs, road grime and God knows what else from the front bumper, sides, and just a little from the back bumper. An old white t-shirt was 85% black by the time I was done!! Hopefully now that it's waxed it will be easier to keep clean from all that gunk. The downside is that there are at least 8-10 stone chips on the car, mostly on the front bumper but also on the sides too. The good news is that they're small in size, and cleaning out the dirt inside each little hole and then covering with wax reduced their visibility to the eye (at least from a little distance away). I'm not sure if I should buy some touch-up paint and try to cover them up (probably not, seeing as how that paint never truly matches). I'm not one for modding my vehicles, but spending the time cleaning it did give me some ideas. I'd like to get the mirror caps painted (like on the 2009 models), I'm thinking a performance muffler to bring out a little more sound from the 3.5L V6, a new exhaust tip to compliment the new muffler (I'm thinking something like a dual exhaust tip vs. the factory chrome package's single round extension), and finally the rear doors & rear window to be tinted (it's illegal in NJ to have the front windows tinted too, but I'd like them a little darker myself). I think those slight mods would make the car a little nicer. Now to just find the $$$ to do it!! On a side note, does anyone have access to a manual for the G6? I'd like to find out how to remove the interior dome lamp. The G6 doesn't have rear reading lamps like my AURA does, and I'd like to find/buy one and install it. Also, how much trouble is it to change out the ISRV mirror? The G6 has OnStar but doesn't have the auto-dimming feature (which my AURA does). It's a feature I'll miss having on the G6 - the AURA, my '04 Malibu, my '05 Envoy, my wife's '03 Rendezvous and her '00 Grand Prix all had this option and I like it while driving at night. I'm thinking even if I do find the part it may be a difficult task to take on. -
I spent a good portion of Saturday afternoon & early evening and all-day yesterday to clean the entire Pontiac G6 (I even checked all the fluids and installed a new air filter). The car looks better than 'showroom' new and I got a lot of compliments from people passing by. I used my dad's driveway & garage yesterday to clean, wash, wax & detail the exterior of the G6, as my dad has a two-car gargae with one door and I have a two car garage with two doors and a wall separating them (it was easier to wax inside in the shade than in the sun at my house or my tight garage space). I didn't get to take too many pictures, but on the way home stopped by one of my local picture-taking spots and grabbed these two: That's at the regional high school's off-site athletic field and there was field hockey practice. As I pulled up and began taking my pictures, the girls were beginning to leave and didn't like me in their way. I learned a long-time ago not to mess with "chciks with sticks", so I left before I caused a traffic back-up. I'll get some more pictures soon. BTW, I used the Meguiars NXT Gen 2.0 liquid wax and it went on easy and came off the same way. I'll see how well it holds up and give my impression/opinion after it sees some rain and daily driving time.

Thanks for the well wishes for both my dad's recovery and for me getting my job back. While I turned in my acceptance letter back on July 1, I've yet to be contacted to sign a new contract. I've left a message last Thursday and sent an e-mail today for the HR director - hopefully I'll get an answer soon. Dad's doing well... he's taking it easy and has modified his diet and routine. He's slowly returning to some of his normal activities (per doctor's orders) and is actually not doing things he's not supposed to do - my father is a stubborn person, but I guess he realizes how bad it could have been and how he can damage his goin area if he doesn't follow the doc's orders (until he completely heals after two catherization surgery procedures). I wish. My sister has a leased Honda Pilot ('08) and their 2000-ish Nissan Pathfinder is going nowhere (as my bro-in-law has a company car to use, the Pathfinder is his backup if my sister is out and he needs to go somewhere). Plus they would never give me the Nissan, even at a steal, to help me out (my sis isn't that compassionate). My parent's cars are an '05 & '06 and are not going anywhere, and my aunt has a 2004 or 2005 Jeep Liberty and she loves it. Don't think I haven't thought about this option, and too bad you have to have owned the car for a year or longer or I'd pick up a clunker at the local Red Cross Motor Pool

While taking a drive in my hometown today, my little guy heard the firehouse siren go off and wanted to see the firetrucks leave. After watching the trucks leave the firehouse, I passed by a house with not one, but two late '60s Olds Cutlass Cruiser station wagons. Luckily, I had my camera with me and snapped a shot:

Thanks for the heads-up mightymouse... I DVR'ed it just in case I'm not home later.

Thanks for the replies and votes so far. Keep them coming! Again, I'm not saying I'm running out anytime soon to buy an OUTLOOK. I've been getting atleast 2 e-mails and 1 written letter per week from my dealership "encouraging" me to consider getting out of my lease early for a new 2009 Saturn vehicle while the "incentives have never better". I'm figuring if the incentives are good enough, the interest rate is 0%, and they're willing to waive my remaining lease payments (the current pull-ahead program takes care of 2 payments, so I'll see if the dealer will take care of the other 2 I have), I might as well see what kind of deal I could work out on an OUTLOOK. The problem is that I'd want a XR model, but could live with a FWD model, and I'm sure any OUTLOOK I'd want will sticker for over $33k (and unless the deal was too good to pass up, I'd be hard pressed not to see what I could get a G8 for). The wife and I have been wanting a "people mover", and with last week's wake-up call with my dad I want to start doing some more travelling with my family and my parents, and a 7 or 8 passenger CUV would fit the bill. Otherwise, if the OUTLOOK or G8 don't pan out, I'll continue to wait to the fall and see what I can do about getting a 2010 GMC Terrain or Acadia (not likely on the Acadia though at that time).

My Saturn dealership has been contacting me a lot over the last two months, wanting me to "trade-out" of my AURA for a new Saturn of my choosing. While I like the VUE, the OUTLOOK would be the Saturn vehicle I'd go with. Please vote and let me know what I should do. Feel free to post your thoughts after voting too. (Note: this is in no way a sure-fire purchase for me, I'm just curious as to what people think about buying a new Saturn vehicle)

Well, I need that 72-months part to make a near $30K loan work out financially for us. I'll just have to wait and see what happens during July and keep my eyes out for any "quick sale" events that GM/Pontiac may offer to help clear out Pontiac inventories. I'm getting ready now to go pick up dad from the hospital.

I've decided what my first "classic" will be....
GMTruckGuy74 replied to daves87rs's topic in The Lounge
I know where you're coming from daves87rs... I miss my '92 Cavalier Z24 Coupe and wish I had it back at times. As for wanting an '80s car as your first classic, I'm right there with you as I want an '81-'87 Pontiac Grand Prix (I came close to making that dream a realization with the '87 GP LE I posted about back in March, until I was laid off this summer - that cash I had had to go towards our mortgage & car payments instead ). Good luck with making your dream come true!! -
Thanks for the well wishes for my dad. Although he says he's feeling much better now after the stent surgery, I know the healing process is just beginning. Also, thanks for the congrats on me getting the job back. I was slightly disappointed that because of my dad's situation this weekend, it prevented me from going to my BPG dealership to see what kind of deal they could offer me on a V6 G8 Sedan (I know the G8 GT will be out of my financial reach, just like a Sierra Crew Cab Z71 4WD). I'm hoping GM will be announcing an extension of the "0% for 72 hours" sale, as I will definitely find out if a 2009 G8 can happen for me. The downside is that my BPG dealership sold the Pacific Slate Metallic V6 G8 Sedan that I've been wanting and watching, but they do have a Maverick Silver Metallic one equipped the same way: What I'm also waiting for is the contract to sign, so I know exactly how much they're paying me. I need to know this so that I know I can afford new car payments!!

Hey there everyone... not sure if any of you noticed my disappearance the last 5/6 days or not, but life has been really crazy lately. Let's start with the good news - I've been recalled back to work. Last Monday afternoon I received a letter from the boss of the HR dept stating one of my co-workers decided to retire effective September 1, 2009 and I was being offered the first right of refusal for her job (which I quickly called to accept). So it looks like my unemployment will be short (June 24-August 30) and I'll be going back for year #8 at the high school I've been teaching at (and hopefully with this new position be around for a lot longer). Now for the bad news... I went to work Wednesday to give the principal a copy of my acceptance letter for the new position. Around 12:45 PM I got a call from my 62 y-o dad (retired since the end of February) that he needed me to come over to his house as soon as I could (thankfully I was less than 1 mile away and not the 8-9 miles that I live from my parents). He was watching my 3 y-o son so I could turn in all of my acceptance letters (HR director, supertintendent, principal, etc) and then I was going to pick him up. I quickly left and long story short, I rush my dad to the local ER due to a shortness of breath, tightness in his chest, and pain in his shoulders. Luckily it was not a heart attack, but on Friday we learn that he has two blocked arteries (a 95% and 80% in two of the right side arteries) and he would need to be taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia on Sunday for surgery on Monday (today). His stent surgery was successful and he will be coming home tomorrow (I will be picking him & my mom up around noon). Since Wednesday I've spent quite a bit of my time in two different hospitals - one very local and one not so local. Dad has some light recovery ahead and must change his diet and habits, but as long as he takes care of himself he will make it through. Neighbor/friends of ours cooked dinner Friday night for us and had us over, which was a needed break. Saturday we spent the afternoon into early evening with dad & mom at the hospital, but went home to celebrate the holiday with our friends and some illegal fireworks (well, until the cops came and stopped the fun). Yesterday as a break away from the stress after we left the hospital in Philly we stopped by Pat's - the King of Steaks - for a much long desired visit (first time). I know that Philly cheesesteaks were not the healthiest choice, but "comfort food" over-ruled Home was like a hotel - eat, shower, out the door, and the poor dogs were always happy to have us home not matter the time. My wife and I took on the responsibility of caring for my mom - the poor woman was too traumatized by this event - and I didn't want her home by herself nor driving around alone. My sister (older by almost 5 years) was of no help, always having an excuse ready at hand. I am looking forward to getting a call tomorrow or Wednesday to sign my contract for September... I'll feel more at ease once I know it's really "official". Let's hope the rest of the week - and the rest of summer - is uneventful. Thanks for reading!!

1988 Buick Reatta Update!
GMTruckGuy74 replied to american_revolution_2005's topic in Member's Rides Showcase
I'm jealous! You have a great looking car there. I've always liked the Reatta and one of the reasons I fell in love with the Saturn SKY was because of my love for the Reatta convertible. Good luck with it! -
+1 You know I'm going to beg, plead, and pout until you decide to order a GMC
