  1. I've always been an admirer of the new-for-'92 Oldsmobile Achieva, heck it was the very first "new" car I ever got to test drive (a '92 Acieva SC coupe, loaded, in bright red). If I could have afforded it then (I was 17 at the time), I would have jumped on it and got ri of my used '78 Camaro. Thanks for posting these pictures, and being a GMC Truck fanatic, I'm hoping you have some pictures to post in the GMC thread.
  2. for a very to my friend, Ninety-Eight Regency!! But I will be selfish and say that you gave us the present by making the return to C&G :AH-HA_wink:
  3. Well, I wouldn't say that yet. The LaCrosse she likes, the ones shown at the car shows (CXS), is priced way out our range, so unless we hit the loterry soon...
  4. I voted "blown away" because the wife is completely enamored with the new LaCrosse; she wouldn't even look at the old LaCrosse last year when we were car shopping. She is not one for needlessly test driving cars without planning to buy one, but she has stated several times to me that as soon as they hit the dealers she wants to take one out for a spin. She's even asked me to take the G6 so she could buy a new LaCrosse!! We'll see what happens in the fall, though I still like the GMC Terrain better.
  5. For as long as I can recall, I've always dreamed of GM granting some of their fans one "wish"... and not just a free vehicle, but something along the lines of getting the chance, a'la Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory style, to see or do something that no one else in the public gets to do. So, let's play fantasy world (remain civil, please!) and post what your one wish would be from GM. This could be a fun exercise! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mine would be to have the opportunity to drive two GMC vehicles... the '56 GMC Suburban Carrier (Cameo) that's in the Heritage Collection AND the 2000 GMC Terradyne concept truck back-to-back. Nothing crazy, but a nice, long drive around the Milford Proving Ground and my camera to capture the day on film (well, at least digitally). A bonus would be a walk-through of the GMC Styling Center to see what is currently under development. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Next?
  6. caddycruiser, a good friend/neighbor of ours drives to Allentown for work every day since last November. While we may have had some rain or light snow, that area was hit by heavy snow or ice (his employer gives him a small allowance to stay overnight in a hotel so he doesn't have to drive in the bad weather). He has said it's not that bad in the area, but when it snows they get snow, whereas here in southern NJ we might not get as much or have rain instead. It's the Pocono mountains that cause all the bad weather
  7. If you go camping this weekend, try pitching your tent a little higher this time, since you covered the lower field last time On a more serious note, I hope the weather cooperates for you and you get to go & enjoy yourself. The wife and I will be slaving our time away holding a garage sale Saturday morning, to raise some $$$, aid in cleaning out our basement of unused junk, and preventing me from doing anything fun on a Saturday
  8. Well, if that's the address of your new office, then you can take your lunch breaks over at the MGM Casino
  9. TICK TOCK? Is it the official end of Pontiac - in 19 days???
  10. Yeah, there's a lot of variables to consider. The biggest to deal with is that going used gives me more car for less bucks... going new right now may limit the size of the car & options I can have. And yes, I have to deal with the fact that if I go used I have to keep it til its paid off. Lots to think about...
  11. Here are the two '06 Buick Lucerne CXS in my town for sale: I like the 2nd one, the Light Bronzemist Metallic a little more (and it's cheaper than the red one) - though I wish it had the optional chrome rims. And I still haven't forgotten about the 2003 Buick Park Avenue ULTRA: Of course the PA has a bunch of extra options on it that I really like (HUD, for example)... but I don't know which one I'd like better.
  12. How about the 2006 Buick Lucerne CXS? There are two '06 CXS for sale, both very local (at two different used car dealers, one less than a mile from my house and the other less than 2 miles away).
  13. Well, as long as you have the cash on hand to buy it outright - that's not me!! But an older used vehicle on a shorter-term loan could lead to a few extra years without a car payment :AH-HA_wink:
  14. I've read that the 2010 GMC Acadia, 2010 Chevy Traverse & Equinox, and 2010 Buick Enclave are eligible for the new leasing program; I'm assuming that when the GMC Terrain debuts in the fall, it too will be added to the list (if the Equinox is, why wouldn't the Terrain be too?). At this point, if I am going to lease again, I might as well wait out the next four months left (Nov 17 is when the AURA is due back) and see what lease deals are being offered (especially for a Terrain). As for used, you just never know how well the car was maintained, what problems are lurking around the corner or were overlooked for the "next owner to deal with", and what the previous owners did in their car (gross, I know). This is the stigma I have with buying used cars that I'd have to overcome if I do go with used. As for the Lambdas, I'd love an Acadia or Enclave, even if it was a base FWD model. It would all depend on the deal offered.
  15. Well, if I know you like I think I do, I better get off my a$$ and into my Pontiac dealer ASAP to see what deal they offer me on a 2009 Pontiac G8 V6 sedan. It will likely be my last chance to see if I can drive away in a brand new Pontiac
  16. Thanks for all the feedback, insight, and information about this generation of U-body vans. Like I said, this query was initiated by my wife, and I wanted to make sure that I removed emotion from this purchase decision. In addition to the positive and negative remarks here, I did some internet research and it seems for every 1 happy Terraza owner, there's 2 unhappy owners. And seeing as how a 5 year loan would be needed, I'm not sure that this is the best choice for a reliable and dependable vehicle. Not knocking those that own this generation of minivan, but I need to make sure I get a quality vehicle if I go used. Like I also said, now that GM is getting back into leasing for 2010, I may again go that route (hey, I've been doing it for ten years now, why stop!?!?). And I still want to see what a 2009 POntiac G8 V6 Sedan deal would be... I need to start looking into that ASAP (per the comment made by PCS in the Pontiac thread - TIC TOCK, times running out!).
  17. So Saturday night after taking my family out to dinner at a Japanese Hibachi restaurant for the little guy's birthday (he's 4 years old now!), we ride through a couple of GM dealership lots so I can see what vehicles they have (I was looking for G8s, but also anything else that caught my eye). My wife on the other hand feels we should be going used for now to get "more car for less buck", which does make sense. While I was looking at the 2 remaining G8s on the BPG lot, she was looking at a used 2006 Buick Terraza CXL FWD. Afterwards, at the Chevy dealer across the street, while me and the little guy were looking at 'Bumblebe' (his name for the all-new Camaro), she was checking out a 2007 Saturn Relay FWD. She really wants us to have a minivan, she's always liked them and wanted one, and knows I won't buy anything other than GM. So, what can someone tell me about the 2006 and 2007 Saturn Relay, Buick Terraza, and Pontiac Montana SV6? The ones we found Saturday night have between 30-35k on the odo and are in the range of $16-$18k in price. Should we stay away from these vans, and if yes, why? Remember, I need to tell the wife the reasons why. As for me, I'm looking into another, older used car in the meantime. However, I still haven't given up on going new and with GM offering leases again for certain 2010 models (so far the Acadia & Equinox would be on my list, but if I wait until the Terrain comes out that too might be offered for leasing), I'm keeping that option open too.
  18. Hey TED, do you have any other links for the Olds Achieva convertible? I didn't know GM did one. I'd like to see more pictures of it. BTW, did it sell at B-J??
  19. You went expecting to see a somber crowd? Classic Poncho fans have ignored the new offerings of their favorite GM division for years. The new GTO was a flop in their eyes, the Solstice was too small for their daily needs, and the G8 was 'too little, too late' (the rest - G5, G6, Vibe, Torrent weren't worth their time). At a small all-GM show I attended in April, I overheard a bunch of men around a '38 Pontiac sedan talk about the end of Pontiac, but they weren't all that sad (they were saying 'who's next?'). I read both Pontiac Enthusiast and High Performance Pontiac magazines and many classic Poncho fans/owners have shunned the brand once 'corporate' engines took over (geez, what year was that, 1979 or 1981?). The brand will never be dead as long as the classic Poncho owners keep their cars alive. BTW hyperv6, I'm not singling you out, just commenting on the topic. Glad to hear you took an award. What Pontiac do you own?
  20. Okay, some of us don't want to hear about you sexual escapades while you were on 'vacation' Just messin' with ya...glad to hear you had some fun during your vacation.
  21. I remember when this thing was new back in '96... it was in all of the truck magazines at the time. I think I may have even saw it at the NYIAS that year.
  22. I'm paying $2,100 a year for the two cars & two drivers (me & the wife) in New Jersey - can't wait until my 15 y-o stepson starts driving in under two years I have no tickets currently on my record (only had 2 speeding tickets ever, both back in '97), and only had minor accidents since joining the wife's policy when we got married in May '01 (well, not counting the big accident that damaged the SKY, but that wasn't my fault). NJ loves to rape its residents for insurance premiums, and insurance coverage is required (liabilitiy only, unless you have a lien or lease). With the way people drive today, and the miriad of distractions available (cell phones, iPods, etc), I don't think policy premiums will go down in price anytime soon.
  23. I've always wanted a "personalized" license plate, but felt it should reflect the 'car' more than 'me' (especially since I don't go by any nicknames). Being a Star Wars fan, I figured maybe something that relates to that - for example, when I had the dark gray '07 SKY I contemplated getting 'DRKJEDI' (Dark Jedi), but balked. Now that the AURA lease is coming to an end, and it's likely I will be buying my next vehicle, I'm trying to think up some ideas for a personalized plate. Since I don't know what kind of vehicle I'm going to get is making it hard.
  24. Isn't that the building that Michael Bay likes to include in his movies? (The Island, Transformers, etc.)
