  1. Oh, and it doesn't help that my right rear tire has a nice-size screw in it - so it would need to get plugged soon before the tire starts loosing air.
  2. How does one buy "used tires"? The crappy Hankooks on my '07 AURA XE are pretty much done - the lease isn't up until November and there's no way I'm going to spend my money (not that I have much left to spend) on a new set of tires for a car I won't be owning for much longer. If money was plentiful, my plan was to take my wife's G6 17k milesHankook tires (same as on the AURA) and put them on the AURA, and then get her a nice set of the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred tires - but that would run me around $600!! So that plan is out and now I want to get a decent set of used tires that will be 'good enough' to return the lease in 3 months. Do I just call local tire places, tell them I want 4 used tires, and tell them the size I need? Is this the best 'cheap' way to go?
  3. Hopefully before this Typhoon gets crushed the scrap yard is smart enough to remove all of the cladding carefully to resell. That cladding is hard to find (some pieces more than others) and can be reused by another Typhoon if needed. Same with the gauge cluster, glove box door/badge, steering wheel, and anything else Sy/Ty specific. BTW, I'd like to find the owner of that Typhoon and give him a swift kick in the balls :angry2:
  4. to you... have a great day!!
  5. If Buick does this in the States, then they have to bring over the wagon too and in the GNX guise. I dig the wagon version way more than the sedan.
  6. 1971 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser (link) 1963 Cadillac Ambulance (link) (late model) GMC <Savana> School Bus (link) Not sure about the basis for this one, I'm thinking WWII-era Chevy military, or if not definitely Dodge Power Wagon military (link)
  7. Oops... my bad! I got my numbers mixed up then. So I got the 15% on the rear windows and may get the 35% if I know it won't fail me for NJ State Inspection (I'm not worried about the police as much since it won't be a dark tint). Thanks for correcting me, at least now I know I'll be saying the right thing!
  8. If GM wanted to use up the parts and still offer the car in NA, why not just keep them in Buick-GMC dealerships? Those salespeople have been the ones selling the G8 anyway, and the service departments are the ones that have been taking care of the cars too (no need for re-training sales staff or service techs in Chevy dealerships). I am in no way mad at Holden (I think I may have come off this way in my earlier post). GM yet again has made a STUPID decision here and continues to tell it's North American Pontiac customer base to screw off. GM wants Pontiac dead and they wanted it dead six months ago. No appropriate fairwell for this brand nor it's loyal customers that continued to purchase Pontiacs into the new millenium (forget about the classic Poncho owners that haven't bought a new Pontiac since the Pontiac-engineered 400 & 301 disappeared ). GM could have continued Pontiac on a niche basis with the G8 range for 2010 - umm, Holden is still making the Commodore for 2010, right??? - and a proper "final edition" Pontiac could have been offered to those of us who will miss our brand. But no, Fritz made up his mind and Lutz in no way can change it This is why instead of supporting the New GM I'm buying an older, used car and the New GM can have my AURA lease back to deal with in November. Pissed off by even the New GM? Then vote with your dollar$ where it hurts them
  9. You do realize though that you can get almost what you want with the 2010 GMC Sierra SLE 3SA Extended Cab pickup (minus the Z71 suspension): Link here to GM's 2010 online ordering guide.
  10. If you don't have the auto-dimming inside-review mirror, once you have the rear window tinted car lights at night are no longer an issue (at least for me). My AURA has the auto-dimming mirror and I love it; the G6 doesn't and I hated that it lacked this feature. Now with the tint, headlight glare is not a problem anymore. And even in bright sunlight, the windows are dark enough to make sitting in the back (for my little guy) bearable (he used to complain about being 'hot' from the sun). I want to check into New Jersey inspection laws regarding the front windows and how they determine if a window is tinted. If I could get away with a 5% tint job for the two front door windows, I'm going to get it done. I know the %5 isn't as dark as the 15%, but it would help cut down on the brightness and it would blend in better than not being tinted. Thank you for the compliment! This was all the wife's choosing, as it's her car, so she deserves the credit. I had found a G6 GT at anoter dealership not as loaded as this V6 Sedan, but it was in the Performance Red Metallic color that I liked (the wife, not so much). The dealership we purchased from did have some V6 Sedans in the red, but once my wife saw the White Diamond Tintcoat, she was hooked. At first I wasn't thrilled with the color, but I quickly grew to like it. All shiny and clean, I think this car looks more expensive than it is (IMO, I know not everyone thinks this way).
  11. After seeing gm4life's Pontiac Torrent get an aftermarket window tint job and how satisfied he was with it, and remembering Walt doing the same thing with one of his cars a while back, I decided to bite the bullet and get the wife's 2008 Pontiac G6 V6 Sedan tinted too. NJ law doesn't allow front window tinting of any percentage, so just the rear doors and rear window received a 15% tint (I considered the 35% limo tint, but was told you can't see out of the windows at night and figured it wouldn't be safe for the wife to operate). Anyway, for those that care, here are some pictures: BEFORE AFTER BEFORE AFTER BEFORE AFTER And some additional 'after' shots that I didn't have 'before shots' of for a comparison: So far no problems to report; tomorrow will be two weeks since the work has been done and it still looks good. The tint is helping to keep the car cooler on the inside, the little guy likes it darker without the sun bothering him as he sits in the back, and I like how it looks on the car (yes, I know it would look better if all of the windows could have been tinted, but I don't want inspection problems or issues from the police). Enjoy!!
  12. You two need to check out the Auctions & Classifieds thread... :AH-HA_wink:
  13. Hahaha... oh wait, you're being serious, aren't you? I will say that the "grandpa" in me has always liked the look of this car with the thin white-wall tires. Since the orignal tires and subsequent upgrades by Goodyear and Michelin are no longer available, caddycruiser is doing some research for me on what white-walled brand of tires are being used by other Fleetwood owners currently. I hate to say I'm not considering changing the rims or going with black-walled tires at this point (though caddycruiser's '95 Fleetwood looked awesome with the Impala SS rims and black-walled tires). Thanks to everyone that has wished me well on this find. I've wanted a Fleetwood for as long as I can remember, and I was probably the youngest person waiting to sit inside of one at the 1993-1996 Philadelphia Auto Show And being that I'm going with an older used car is new territory for me. The last used car I bought (back in '98) was only three years old with low mileage and had a warranty on it. It will be strange turning in a lease vehicle without getting something new in return - I've been leasing 10 years now and it will be strange to have to give them the AURA and just walk away. As for mods, the only thing I'm contemplating at this time is the window tint. I was suppose to make a thread about the wife's G6 Sedan - back on August 6th I had the rear door and rear window tinted 15% and it not only looks good, but has helped to keep the car cooler on the inside (I'll post some pics in the member's area tonight, just in case anyone cares!). I'm using the small amount of money I still have left to buy new tires, get some basic maintenance done (oil change, new battery, coolant flush, possibly a transmission service, and there is one known problem - the right rear window doesn't work as it's off the track and needs to be fixed). Depending on what I plan to do with the car down the road, a flowmaster exhaust may be in the cards, but if I decide to keep this car as stock as possible, then all mods are out (tinting, Imp SS rims, exhaust, etc). Hopefully I'll post soon when this land yacht will be coming home. Since the owner has let both the insurance and registration lapse, I need to take care of those issues first before it can make the small trip "home". P.S. - the wife is not thrilled at all with this purchase. First, she thinks it's too 'grandpa-ish' of a car; second, she's not thrilled that it's a gas guzzler (big car, big V8); thirdly, she's not happy that it has over 100k mileage (I told her that on average, this car has been driven only 9,000 miles per year, so the mileage isn't that bad of an issue); and finally, she's not happy that there's no warranty and being an older, used car means money for repairs down the road. However, I told her this is the car I want and as long as I have a loan on it, will be the car I drive
  14. Personally, I'd like the petition to include the use of the 3.6L V6 in the GMC Terrain instead of the 3.0L V6 to differentiate it more from the new Chevrolet Equinox. I know that the exterior design does that well enough, but GMC could also charge a little more for the upgraded V6 and make more PROFIT for GM in the process (what GMC is good for anyway). However, maybe thus is already in the works... with a Denali version of the Terrain
  15. for a very !!
  16. You're not kidding. His wife wanted him to get a new car (the owner is 65 y-o), but like he told me, he has 5 other cars! So he said anew car was the last thing he needs, and he'd hate to see this Caddy crushed. Another person did check it out before me - a New Yorker that owns a limo service. He said it was "too old" for his fleet, that his customers want and expect newer cars, so he passed. He said he's gotten a ton of e-mails offering $1,000 to $1,500 for it, but he doesn't even reply to this "nitwits". As for the price, I'm paying $3,500. caddycruiser tells me that it can sell for much more than that to the Fleetwood crowd. I'll take that as I'm getting a bargain
  17. Well that just sucks, doesn't it? The wagon was the version I most wanted, and would even have settled with a 3.6L V6 equipped model. Thanks Holden, just for sticking it to us Pontiac fans one last time
  18. ... 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. There, the suspense is over and the cat is out of the bag. But the deal isn't finalized yet (but will be, most likely, very soon). Well, after racking my brain on what I wanted to do to replace my '07 AURA XE lease coming up in three months, I decided to go used for my next vehicle. And not just any car, mind you, but the largest one Cadillac offered to boot. Here are some pictures I took when I went to see the car on Monday: I do have to take a small loan out to purchase it since being unemployed this summer drained most of the cash I had saved up for a special car purchase (originally the '87 GP LE I posted about months ago). But my plan is to pay the car off by next summer, one year earlier, so I can own the car free and clear. This Fleetwood Brougham is well-optioned, originally stickering for $41,077: triple black (Sable Black exterior, black padded vinyl roof, black Sierra Grain leather interior), trailer towing package, Brougham leather package with heated seats, 3-button garage door opener, CD/Cassette Stereo, Security package, and full size spare tire. It currently has 116k on the odo and has had two caring owners in it's 13 years (the car was manufactured in February of 1996). Does this mean I don't plan to buy a new GM vehicle? Yes if by November; no for 2011 or 2012. I wanted a Pontiac G8 GT Sedan very badly, but can't afford one (same with a GMC Sierra SLE Crew Cab 4WD). I've always admired the '93-'96 Caddy Fleetwood and have looked into getting one for the last 2-3 years. I figured why not now? New cars & trucks will always be around (well, not Pontiacs anymore), so why not get something I've always wanted? And this is making me take the leap on something else I've always wanted to do but put off - I will be enrolling in Adult School and their Auto Mechanics classes so I can learn to take care of my own vehicles (even if it's the more basic stuff) so I don't always have to rely on someone else. A big thank you to caddycruiser for being there for countless PMs, containing many, many questions. His encouragement and confidence has been the "angel on my shoulder' going through with this. I'd also like to thank Ninety-Eight Regency - his devotion to the cars he loves, no matter how old they are, has motivated me to make one of my dreams into a reality. BTW, If anyone feels I'm making a mistake, please speak up now before I take the plunge (reminds me of my wedding 8 years go )
  19. hmmm... you may be on to something daves87rs
  20. Thanks for thinking of me z28luvr01, but I have set my target on something a little different than a G-Body Grand Prix right now. Plus, the white '87 GP LE in most excellent shape is only $500-$1,000 more than this one, and being a local car has its merits to me. But I appreciate you looking out for my interests
  21. Sorry that I'm being secretive here... I don't want to jinx it by saying what it is just yet. caddycruiser knows because of his expertise in this particular car and he has been a great help to me so far. Hopefully very soon I can make a post about this car; if it doesn't work out, then I'll spoil the fun and let everyone in.
  22. caddycruiser, I've been pre-approved for the loan, so this car might just become a reality for me... :AH-HA_wink:
  23. I went to see it today... I'm going to the bank tomorrow to see what can be done. Look for a message or e-mail from me in the morning (I'm too tired tonight to write!!). Let's just say while it's not perfect (but darn close I think), I'm in love
  24. Alright, so after a week of back-and-forth e-mailing with the owner of a slightly older used car I found for sale on a Craigslist ad, I'm planning to go check it out sometime today (likely in the early afternoon). Since it has been a LONG time since I shopped for a used car, and even then is was for a newer used car, is there a standard checklist to take along so I don't overlook anything? It would be a bonus if it was from a "Used Car Shopping for Dummies with little Mechanical Skills" book. If I like what I see, I will be asking to take it for a much more thorough inspection by an AA-approved mechanic. But I want to be able to perform a basic inspection so the seller doesn't take me for a NOOB
  25. Here's that crazy GMTG74 again As much as it pains me, I'm going to give up on my quest for a 2009 Pontiac G8 (V6). I missed out on my opportunity back at the beginning of July due to family issues, and since then the incentives I can qualify for have not been good enough for me to afford the monthly payment. The GMC Sierra SLE Crew Cab 4WD has been out of the question for a long time now and unless I hit the lottery to afford both the monthly payment AND the weekly gas bill, won't be back on the list. So where does that leave me? Other than the G8 Sedan, there's no other 2009 GM vehicle I want, so I will pass on going for a 2009 at this time (though I'm sure the labor day sales event may attempt to lure me back in...). I am not satisfied with a small-sized vehicle (i.e. HHR), nor for a daily driver with a 4 cylinder engine (the only Malibu I can afford). I am at this time considering a slightly older used car (I know, I should be looking at used trucks, especially SUVs, but they're still selling at much higher prices than what I'm comfortable paying). I don;t want to say anything more about it until I check it out. But I'm considering going with used for the time being, and then looking at 2011 MY vehicles (maybe even 2012, if I can hold out that long!).
