I hope with the tractor in the background it is not a sign of this car's fate. Of course if you look at it another way, the fact that nothing is around the car could mean this car possibly survived the crusher and was waiting to be trailered away.

Anyone going to be in the Philly area on Sunday?
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Camino LS6's topic in The Lounge
Thanks for the info, I will see what I can do. There is a car show today in my area that was moved from August, and it usually has 350+ cars/trucks. It's a bit windy today, and I think I may have an upper respiratory infection starting, so maybe I'll go to Media tomorrow instead. DO you have a link to the clubs website so I can get show info (times, addresses, etc)? -
Saw this last Sunday (10/10), a '57 Chevy Bel-Air Sedan for sale (the seller is asking $15k) in the town I live in: Started a new job (temporary worker with Kelly Services) at a pharmacutecal company on Monday (10/11) and this was in their parking lot: Last Thursday night was my local fire company's "open house" night for fire prevention week and they had an antique apparatus display, which is where I saw these two Macks ('49 & '50): (sorry they're crappy, was taken with my Droid phone in the dark)

Happy Birthday! Make the most of your special day

Went, saw, enjoyed. Will post pictures soon (started a new job Monday and haven't had the time at night to post)

Will do, ocnblu!! Truck is loaded with the little guy's Radio Flyer wagon, the water bottles are chillin' in the fridge, the snacks are waiting to be packed in the cooler bag in the morning, and the batteries are on the charger for the digital camera. Financially this will be the worst year I've attended, but I won't let that get me down for what I consider my "super bowl" of car shows

Anyone Else Here Have a Thing for Old Zippos?
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Blake Noble's topic in The Lounge
Practically everyone in my family is a smoker (my sister, my and my wife are the non-smokers). There have been plenty of lighters used over the years, and my grandparents (dad's side) and grandmother (mom's side) used Zippo. Though I'm a non-smoker, I used to carry my grandfather's old Zippo, until I lost it (got it in the early '90s when he quit smoking, and lost it in the mid '90s somewhere). Can't tell you how old it was, but it was a plain chrome (or was it brushed steel?) Zippo. I think my dad still has his lighter from his old trucking company (AAA Trucking Corporation), not sure if its a Zippo or not. I'd love to find an original '48 Tucker Zippo lighter (dealer promotional piece), but they are expensive from what I've read. I look at the new Zippos for sale at the sports/lottery/smoke shop inside Columbus Flea Market (Columbus, NJ) from time to time, but since I don't smoke I don't see a need to spend $$$ for something that would just cause problems at some point (fire bug!) -
So, has anyone attended the AACA Eastern Region Fall Meet this week, or planning to head that way tomorrow? As of now I have all intentions of going there tomorrow morning. This will be my 21st year attending the show (rain, sleet, snow, not even MUD <anyone remember those days?> can stop me ). I will be sure to post a reply on my observations of this year's event afterwards. BTW, here's the link for the 2009 aerial shot of the event: http://www.hersheyaaca.org/images/arialphotos/2009.pdf

Case in point, here's a 2011 Sierra 1500 W/T Regular Cab Long Bed 2WD I saw at Faulkner Buick-GMC at the end of August: And in April, the dealership I bought my Envoy from had this gently used (only had 10k miles) 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 W/T Regular Cab Short Bed 4WD for sale in their GM Certified lot (first shortie I had seen in a long while): And just for the hell of it, here's what ocnblu's Sierra shortie looked like
-
Yes, Ram (Dodge) currently offers a regular cab truck... a neighbor of mine has a standard Ram long bed 2WD. Regular cabs, long or short but usually long, are popular here in my area with local municipal government fleets and large businesses as maintenance trucks (I can think of PSE&G <Public Service Electric & Gas>, the NJ & PA Turnpike Authorities, and American Water off the top of my head as owners of 2WD regular cab long bed trucks). Cruise any GMC, Chevrolet, Ford or Dodge dealership and you'll see one base model "work truck" configuration on sale (regular cab, long bed, 2WD, base trim). Now the days of loaded up regular cab pickups, long or short, sitting on dealers lots waiting for customers is long gone - the BPG dealership by me that closed May 2008 use to stock two GMC Sierra SLE 4WD regular cabs - one short and one long and when they sold he'd reorder another one to replace it. Of course it usually took all year to sell it! If GM makes the Holden Ute available here between 2013-2015, I may opt for that. Otherwise a regular cab, 4WD GMC Sierra is on my radar during that timeframe (still undecided if it will be short or long bed though, but GM can aid in that decision if they bring back the stepside/sportside bed option! )
-
I tried building that combo today and had difficulty using GM's site (GM.com, GMC.com, and the GM Supplier Discount site). I was able to select the model, trim, and bed lengths, but when selecting options I could not get what I wanted and eventually received error messages. I hope GM is not cancelling the shorty regular cabs; I realize they ae not huge sellers by any means, but they are still popular and not many dealers stock them on the lots (I was very surprised to see the black one Monday; even more shocked that it sold as quickly as it did). I know that the regular cab/long bed pickup will survive, as they are the work trucks of American businesses, but I pray GM doesn't cancel the shorty. I'm hoping to be able to finally get one in the next couple of years (new, not used).

Took the wife's G6 to the dealer Monday for her free #3 LOF-tire rotation-27-point inspection that GM gave to Pontiac owners. While waiting, I browsed the lot and saw this beauty: 2011 GMC Sierra Regular Cab Short Bed Z71 2WD Went back today with the Envoy for some warranty issues and a LOF, and saw these GMCs that weren't on the lot Monday: (boy would that look nice in my driveway, parked next to the same-colored G6 my wife owns ) All-Terrain Sierra's aren't too common on south Jersey, at least to my own observations. Sadly, that beautiful '11 Regular Cab sold Monday night. I was hoping to take it out for a test drive today, but the new owner traded in a very well kept '04 GMC Sierra Regular Cab Z71 4WD Sportside  As a result of some parts not in-stock for the Envoy, they were keeping it overnight and the GMPP warranty gavce me this as my rental: 2010 Chevrolet Silverado LT Crew Cab 4WD

I read this article in my local newspaper the other day. The firefighters didn't just show up to "watch" the house burn down, they were there because the neighbor next door (who had paid his $75 fee) called 911 because he was afraid the fire would spread to his house. The call was made not to save the man's house because of his not paying the fee on schedule. Harsh? Sure, especially since this is fire prevention week. But I'm sure all the other property owners in that county learned an important lesson that day - to pay on time!! Sometimes someone has to be the the point to a lesson, and unfortunately this guy was the one chosen.

I sent three e-mails but never heard from the seller. Either it sold quickly or they had a change of heart

(I could do without the huge lift and chrome blingy rims though) 23 more pictures of this beautiful '72 GMC Jimmy here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330476865045&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en

Price seems low for such a great car... too good to be true??
-
WOW!! I'm thrilled, to say the least. I posted a request on my facebook page for anyone that would "like" this for me to get the honor of fan of the week, but forgot to make a post here asking C&G facebook users to do that favor too. Thanks to Von for making the congratulatory post and bringing this news to C&G, and thanks to everyone else that congratulated me. I think I'm going to get that picture put onto a t-shirt!!

Thank God you survived this accident and walked away with only minor cuts and bruises. The car did its job by protecting you. My advice to you - be sure to save a piece of the car as a good luck charm, a'la the Subaru commercial aired earlier this year (where the guy retrieves his belongings and takes the shifter knob).

I, like Camino, desire for GM to offer the Ute here in North America. I wanted a Sierra regular cab sportside Z71 and a Chevy SSR, but financials weren't there at those times to make either of them happen. In 2-4 years from now I can see my situation being different and a Ute (or El Camino or GMC whatever) being an addition to my driveway. What I'd love to get right now though is a Holden Ute brochure. Too bad Holden won't mail brochure requests to the US

No problem, Bill! I was happy to see this color out so early, and it reminded me of the bluestone metallic offered in late 2006 and early 2007 on the Saturn SKY. I wish GMC would offer a dark blue (not the lighter Atlantic Blue, a carryover color from the Torrent/Equinox) on the Terrain, as that's my favorite color. I agree with you on the Terrain being too soft for its butch-iness exterior. I wish that GMC would offer an All-Terrain package, a'la Sierra, that gives the Terrain the things you mentioned already (including more ground clearance and m+s tires) - sort of like the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot. I was next to a new Equinox in traffic yesterday in my Envoy and commented to my wife that they sit too low compared to the Envoy for my tastes.

Been watching MSNBC for the last hour, which has been replaying their "live" coverage minute-by-minute of that morning. I told myself I wouldn't be glued to the TV today, but so far I can't pull myself away. I have never forgotten that day, nor the way it made me feel. I do want to get in the car and go to NYC tonight, but the wife wants me not to.

As promised earlier, seen at Faulkner Buick-GMC in Trevose, PA at their sponsored car show last weekend (9/4), the Steel Blue Metallic of the 2011 GMC Terrain:
-
I got some pictures of that new Steel Blue Metallic color on a 2011 Terrain. I'll turn on my PC and load them up soon (on my wife's laptop right now ).

Wow, that's gorgeous! I haven't seen that one yet... when was it first shown?
