Design Competition #4 - K5 Design Contest
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Camino LS6's topic in Design Competitions
If you got rid of the "extra" space where the rear doors would be, the design would look awesome. Of course with safety reuglations, you really couldn't not have a metal roof over the driver area, but a solid rollbar, a'la Jeep Wrangler, could suffice. Great job, I'd like to see the revision of this though. The All Terrain HD makes for a good example of a "Jimmy" return -
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year "2011", to those that celebrate these holidays.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes!! Yesterday was a great day, though I did have to work my day job. In addition to some nice gifts, my wife took me, my children, and my parents out to dinner (to Georgine's in West Bristol, PA for those that know of it). And here's what it is all about: Spending time with the ones that look at you with unconditional love is the best present you can ever recieve

I sure do hope this finally becomes reality. It would have been nice for GM to have offered the Ute as a Chevy El Camino once the decision to scrap the G8 ST was made and/or the decision to kill off Pontiac. This is one halo vehicle I could see myself looking into for a new purchase, even as a Chevy

I still really like the white '99/'00 prototype a lot; the current-generation red one is nice, but I don't think the Silverado translates well into a full-size Blazer/Tahoe 2-door (I think the current Taho look is awesome). -
I will keep that in mind, thanks for the offer and checking on the location of this cab.

Personally, I'd love a 2-door GMC Yukon (I wanted a full-size Jimmy - then Yukon) for a long time. But I don't think a true 2-door would return to market, it'd be more like the 2001 K5 Blazer concept you pictured with the two small rear doors. Which I would be fine with, as it would make it easier for me to load my small children into the back easier. And yes, this would be a vehicle that would definitely catch my interest for purchase.

Still listed on Craigslist... I wonder what kind of shape it is in? The pictures look "ok", but you can never tell everything from pictures. All I'd need to do is find a chasis and the rest of the body parts. Would make an interesting project!

It's hard to nominate any more since Camino hit on a lot of the ones I could think of However, here's one he didn't mention and is one concept that was very close to production but got "lost in translation" 1955 GMC L'Universelle (1955 Motorama Show Vehicle) Very futuristic for its time, being the first front-wheel drive truck produced GMC with a low center of gravity and offering more space than in the conventional panel trucks of the day. However, it's custom frame, drive system, and other unique features made the '55 GMC L'Universelle too expensive to consider for production in the '50s. However, when GM finally committed the money to this project it came out watered down as this: From High Performance Pontiac: http://www.highperformancepontiac.com/features/hppp_0309_1955_gmc_l_universelle/index.html

Honestly, at almost 36 (12/23), there's not much I want that we can afford (for example, I'd love new tires and rims and the GM accessories chrome & painted door handles for my '06 Envoy, but can't afford them). But that doesn't mean others here don't have a Christmas wishlist that has realities and/or fantasies. Share them here, if you'd like. FANTASY: I'd love to find either of these trucks parked out in my driveway with a big red bow on it Christmas morning (Santa, are you listening?!?):

Now I have to ask... why is it "way too late for that"??? You never know when destiny will intervene and you'll meet your significant other. Time is a funny thing...

Well, the GMT-360s are popular still, and as long as you do your research on the specific year & model you'd be buying you should be good (you know that I'm a fan of Envoys, having leased an '05 SLT and now financing a pre-owned '06 SLT, and others like Oldsmoboi that likes the Olds Bravada). I find the Atlas 4200 I6 to be a great engine and everyone I know with an Envoy (or Trailblazer or Bravada or Rainier) likes the power and performance of it too. Parts should be plenty too, given that there are so many of these SUVs on the roads. Mine fits the family well (five of us now, including one booster seat and one infant carrier). The Bravada, Envoy and Trailblazer all came out early CY 2001 (for MY 2002) and there are plenty of used ones out there (I constantly see a ton of 2002-2004 advertised in my local Auto Shopper magazine with decent mileage). I'd suggest the 1998-2001 Blazer/Jimmy/Bravada, but I don't like their crash ratings, especially for a family hauler. Plus the GMT-360s are bigger than the S-series trucks and border almost on the full-size side.

Interactive Review: 2011 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 Crew Cab 4WD
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Reviews
Oh how I love that face -
That is one gorgeous show truck!! I have never seen that picture of the Palomino before. The interior is leather - something that wouldn't be commonplace in a pickup truck for another 40 years! It truly was a one-off show piece, showcasing a lot of factory options and unique trim (the upper bed trim was not put into production, unlike the '57 Chevy Cameo). hyperv6, no offense was meant by me. Many non-GMC guys like to say all GM did was "cut a hole in the hood" for the GMC badge. Yes, a hole was stamped, but it is more than just "a hole" (again, not directed at you). As far as I know, only the gold Palomino existed; however, we know GM made more copies sometimes for different venues. I have never seen or heard of a red one though (only the gold). And the Town & Country/Suburban Carrier was also offered in 1958 with a very small number (like the Cameo, until the steel fleetside/wideside came to market). There is one '59 Suburban Carrier, and the collector you mentioned owns that one: I'd love one of these fiberglass-sided trucks. To me that would be the "Holy Grail" of these classic trucks. I often regard the new Sierra Denali as the modern-day Suburban Pickup (back in the '50s the Cameo was considered a luxury truck, and the Suburban Carrier was basically to sit in the GMC dealer's showroom to sell options, hence why approximately 300 a year were made - one for each GMC dealership). Now, for some pictures: 1955 1956 *Official GMC factoy photo from '56 with Oldsomobile hubcaps? 1957 1958 *This '58 was Steve McQueen's, the famous actor, truck By the way, here's two photos of the '57 GMC Palomino from October 20, 2007 at a car show in Lakeland, FL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/reddog3d/1662113645/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/reddog3d/1662982736/in/photostream/ Going back to the original topic of this thread, here's an interesting take on a '58/'59 Fleet option GMC (for those two years, GMC used the factory '58/'59 fenders but installed a '55-'57 single headlight instead of the dual-quad headlight setup). This one appears to have benefitted from some extra trim in its restoration (grille): (here's a slightly modified '58/'59 Fleet option GMC):
-
I may be mistaken about the fenders being different. I know that the new replacement fenders sold by Chevy vendors state that they are interchangeable between Chevy & GMC, so maybe they were that way originally. I know the turn signals line up in the same area on the two trucks. Technically I think the hoods were stamped out for the GMC hood ornament, as it's not just a cut line but has a rolled lip. GMC did produce about a 1,000 of their own version of the Chevy Cameo, called the Suburban Carrier Pickup (also referred to as the GMC Town & Country pickup).
-
Interesting... apparently this GMC is the rare Fleet option truck. Think of it as the basic 'work truck' pickup of 1955 for businesses that wanted the cheapest truck their money could buy. GMC used the Chevy front fenders and Chevy dash and added the mesh grille to save money. I'd like to see this truck's dash to confirm it.

Interactive Review: 2011 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 Crew Cab 4WD
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Reviews
Lucky you! Enjoy the Sierra for the time you have it. I'd love to get the opportunity to have an extended test drive with one of these new GMCs. I was happy to have a 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT 4WD Crew Cab for two days in October from Eterprise while my Envoy was getting some warranty work done -
I think that's a great comparison, and think both versions of the Granite would be big sellers. GM needs to be the first to market for a change (especially beating Scion). The CPU is my own pick, but it would be hard to pass up on the wagon if I was put in that position. Camino - from your mouth directly to GM's ears would be a great thing here

Here's another picture of the rear with the dutch doors open (brake lights visible):

How about that one? I still really like this truck. Come on GMC, make it!!

O M G . . . I'm totally in Seriously... I'd buy this in a heartbeat. Since I now have a 32-mile one-way commute (64 miles a day), I'd totally rock this GMC Granite LUV as my commuter truck. I was totally in love with the Granite CUV, and would consider that too if offered for sale. But I will always choose a pick-up over anything else if given the opportunity. GM/GMC, you have to consider the Granite twins for production please!!

Unfortunately, my wife and I are tied to our debts (oh, the American Dream!) and in order to get ourselves out of this hole we must do what is needed with regards to both working a lot of hours right now, which takes us away from family life and personal time. Our credit tanked by late 2008, so we entered into a credit/debt management program this year after realizing we could not get a handle on it ourselves. We live paycheck to paycheck because all of our debit and our family needs, our credit card accounts were closed (this happened before we entered the credit/debt management program unfortunately) so there's no option but to spend only in cash and only on what we absolutely need (which can be a good thing when trying to get a grip on uncontrolled spending). Though we were making very good money, we bought a (town)house that in hindsight is out of our comfort zone in regards to the monthly mortgage payment and taxes in NJ. At my insistence, we leased our vehicles ('99-'07) and I spent home equity money for the Saturn SKY (which I could no longer afford to keep by late 2007). Being laid-off from teaching at the end of June, and due to the state's (actually, the govenor's) attack on education/teachers/teacher union, I was unable to find a replacement teaching job for Septmeber. Unemployment killed my meager savings account and by mid-September we were in financial trouble again, leaving me no option but to take a contingent (temp) position at the pharmaceutical company where my wife is a 10+ year full-time employee. I get no paid holidays, no paid sick time, no benefits (thankfully me & my family are covered by the wife's), and no perks. I work for peanuts per hour now instead of salary, which is about 40% less than what I was paid per hour of teaching (but is more than what I was getting in unemployment pay). I am on a 6-month contract basis (Oct-Mar), though there's the option that it will be extended (but on the flip side of the coin it can also be folded at any time too). The company I work for is raking in the profits at the expense of a ton of contingent workers efforts and time (there is no paid overtime either). So for we're making our monthly payments on our debts again, keeping food in the house (not as much though) and gas in the cars (frivilous and/or extra travel has been cut though), and there's diapers & formula for the baby. But when we looked at our empty savings account and our upcoming paychecks, we realized Christmas for the kids wouldn't be possible without a third paycheck. I am working part-time for a Toys R Us for both the Christmas money and the employee discount (which isn't enough but helps). The good thing to come out of this p/t job is that there will be no debit in January for Christmas, something that we experienced last Christmas too. All in all, I'm doing 40 hours at my primary job (plus 30 mins each day for lunch), 20-24 hours at my secondary job, spending 11-12 hours per week in travelling time between the two jobs, and then whatever time is left is spent eating/sleeping/family time. Now I'm not complaining in general, because I realize I made the bed so now I have to sleep in it. The part I am complaining about is that it is all happening at once, something I haven't been use to. I can deal with change, but found out not as much as what I've been going through. Thanks for letting me vent, and I can see from this topic I am not alone.

Didn't catch that the Impala was a TH, so I guess that one will be off my radar And I didn't know that about the 10-packs.. thanks!
-
I answered my own question by googling it... apparently it's a 2011 release, though I've seen this car in a 10-pack at least a month or two ago. Here it is, and I will continue my search for it: Btw, here's the Hummer H2 SUT I found recently: And here's another cool new release to keep an eye out for ('58 Impala):
