I thought I joined in 2001, but seeing as how I remember a lot of the old timers ( ) said that C&G didn't come out until November or December of 2001, it must have been early in 2002 that I joined. I have no clue what number I was, but I know it wasn't a low one. I will say I've been around since early 2002, and haven't ever been able to leave for more than 7 days at a time

Okay, so March 12 will be my one year anniversary since I purchased the 2006 GMC Envoy SLT 4WD. The GM Certified Used Vehicle 12k mile/12 month bumper-to-bumper warranty is due to expire at 46,942 miles or on 3/12; I'm currently at 46,146 miles right now (796 miles left, so I will not make it to March). I have gotten great use out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty on my truck this past year, and feel that since I still have 4 1/2 years left to pay on the loan I should consider purchasing an extended GM Major Guard warranty before I hit the mileage expiration very soon. I have spoken to the closest Buick-GMC dealership, the one I use for service, and got information on the GM Major Guard warranty. The longest term I can get would be 36 months/45k miles with a $100 deductible per occurance. It's not cheap and I can't afford the entire payment all at once, but good ol' GM will allow me to put a small amount down and make payments for a short period of time (12-24 months). I like the fact that it will cover the truck for another 3 years while I'm paying the loan, plus continue with rental coverage and roadside assistance too. I don't like that I'd have to pay the first $100 of each repair bill, but $100 is better than $500 or a $1000. Seeing as how it is a 4WD vehicle, and a top-of-the-line model with a lot of gizmos and gadgets, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to go ahead with the warranty purchase. I also like the GM Major Guard because it uses GM parts and is covered at any GM dealership nationwide without hassle. Does anyone disagree about this purchase? I understand it is a 5 year old truck, so things will break down (and hopefully the warranty will cover those issues). I'm not 100% satisfied with the price the dealership gave me, and another dealer said he can't offer me the GM Major Guard warranty because it's too far out of it's original warranty (even though I explained twice that it is currently under the GM Certified Vehicle warranty). I will contact a few other GM dealers to see what kind of pricing they give, but I don't have a lot of time left until the warranty runs out. Your input/advise is requested

Scale Auto - Contest Cars 2010 edition
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Merchandise Lookout
I was a little disappointed that no one submitted a modified Chevy truck model ('55-'57) into a GMC this year. Usually at least one '55 or '57 converted GMC appears in teh past years editions. I wish I had the skill to make models. I have several unopened kits of cars I wish I could build. Back in '90 or '91, I paid a kid from Texas to build three model kits for me - a '69 Olds Cutlass 442, a '91 Pontiac Trans Am GTA, and a '55 Chevy Cameo (the only one I still have; the Olds was destroyed by my dad in an accident and I don't recall the deal with the T/A GTA). He did a great job and I wish I still had his contact info, as I have procured some resin parts to convert some AMT/ERTL '55 and '57 Chevy pickups (one stepside, one Cameo) into '55 and '57 GMC trucks. I give those model builders above, and the many others in the magazine, a ton of credit for their artistic talent. -

I purchased this magazine a couple of weeks back and wanted to share some of the interesting (at least to me ) pictures of GM vehicles modeled in 1/24th scale:
-
I wasn't expecting for it to show up at the NAIAS since it was a "design study" by the California Design Center. However, I would have been pleasantly surprised by it's arrival there. I think GM/GMC is missing out on a great opportunity to market the Granite twins. On the positive side, there's still time for the Granite LUV to make the auto show rounds this year in Chicago and New York, if GM reconsiders showing it off. And it would be great if it could make an appearance at the upcoming All-GM Nationals show in Carlisle, PA (June).

M2 Auto Haulers...coming in 2011
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Merchandise Lookout
BTW, I may have my years mixed up, I'm not that great with the Chevy '58-'59 models (compared to the '55-'57s). I'll check my Chevrolet Truck book tonight and correct if needed. Either way, one of the two trucks is mis-marked as a 1958 model, and wouldn't you know it I didn't buy the orange (yellow) one. -

I just noticed a variation with the two Chevy Viking 60 LCF's: The turquiose one uses the '58 Viking fender emblem and '58 Chevrolet Hood emblem (Apache emblems shown): While the yellow/orange one, also marked as a 1958 model, wears the 1959 Chevy Truck emblems: -

According to the back of the box, these other trucks are available: funny, it mentions a yellow Chevy LCF, but as you'll see below it looks more like orange Here's what else was available at Target in this series (I really dig the '50 Studebaker pickup with snowplow, but at $5.49 each and limited spending funds, I could only get the '58 Chevy LCF at this time): EDIT: I found the website link for these trucks: http://www.m2machines.com/products.php?id=36&pid=40&subid=189 -

I went to Target last night for something else, but a quick stop int he toy aisle is always garunteed And look what I found: 1958 Chevrolet Viking 60 LCF: -
Nevermind, found the blue Matchbox Terradyne on the peg at TARGET last night, along with something else I'll post separately. The package is a little messed up, but I'll open this one once I find another pristine package first.

Drew, I was once the moderator for GMC, and I'll admit I don't think I did too much. But your duties/responsibilities post seems pretty clear cut, and something I can handle. If you need someone to moderate the GMC Truck section, I'm throwing my hat in for consideration. By the way, I think this speaks to my credibility for the position:

I feel your pain, I really do. You can't have what you want because it's not offered for sale here in the good ol' US of A, and I can't have what I want because I don't have the money/credit to buy what I want (Sierra). Such a shame for both of us...

Design Competition #4 - K5 Design Contest
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Camino LS6's topic in Design Competitions
If you could, when you get the time, can you make the back of the truck metal? What I mean is, no removable top (like the '92-'97 Yukon 2-door rather than the '70-'91 Jimmy). I absolutely love your rendition - I was meaning to ask someone to make a Regular Cab, Short Bed out of the Sierra All Terrain HD Concept for me, but your "Jimmy" is close enough. BTW, I printed it out and pinned it to my cubical wall to stare at all day Camino, I still think z28 deserves the watch -
Happy belated Birthday to my fellow New Jerseyan!!

I can't say I totally agree with you Camino. Yes, the future is gloomy, and today is not that much brighter. But there are some great cars on the market if you're into FWD, sedans, and semi-appliances (aka "new cars") I will admit that I like the new Buick LaCrosse, and that's the car on the wife's radar for her next vehicle purchase (or a CTS if we hit the lottery). It would suit my family well, though we're five now and need "bigger"; however, the LaCrosse is bigger than the G6 so it would fit the bill. We like the new Buick Verano, though it's a bit small for my own personal tastes, but it would suite our commute to work (better fuel efficiency but not a great family hauler like the LaCrosse). I think the Camaro is a great first effort for the new GM, even though it has its flaws I still enjoy seeing everyone I can on the road. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee has gotten me interested again in owning a Jeep vehicle outside of the Wrangler, which is not the best family hauler (and hence, not parked in my garage). And as much as a BOF truck-guy that I am, the GMC Terrain, Cadillac SRX and new Ford Explorer - CUVs at their best - definitely have caught my eye. Yes, the vehicles I mentioned above, and many others not mentioned, are not for everyone - especially not for you Camino. I pray everyday that GM opens their eyes up and takes a risk by offering more Zeta products here - the Ute, the Commodore (yes, I know it's suppose to come as a Chevy SS sedan or something, but enough with the rumors), and especuially the wagon, would be great to offer to the US buying public. Heck, take the even bigger risk and make the Holden Coupe 60 a reality. Call it a Chevelle, call it an Impala SS Coupe, call it whatever as long as it's on the lots for people to buy. Make a full-size, 2-door (or 3-door) SUV again to be different from the rest of the market (let them follow you for a change). Enough of the people saying GM can't afford to take risks on niche cars and trucks right now - if GM doesn't offer some of their enthusiasts what they really desire, then GM may not be around long enough anyway to offer anything. Camino, my friend, one day soon I know you'll be telling us about the new car you just drove off the lot with, smile wider than the horizon. Have patience, like many of us, and you will be rewarded.

All the more reason I hope I can buy a brand new, full-size GMC Sierra in the very near future. I'm lucky to have the best of both worlds... I get the truck (Envoy) and the car (the wife's G6). Neither one may be perfect in the eyes of certain C&G members, but I do get to have my cake and ice cream too But I prefer driving a truck or SUV over a car any day - like some here prefer their sport coupe or sedan, I feel at home behind the wheel of a truck and nothing else can satisfy me that way. Here you go (now for someone to make it real):
-
So would you say you would go with the Trico NeoForms or the Rain-X Latitudes? The G6 hasn't had new blades since September '09, which were Michelin brand wipers from Costco. I'd say they lasted a good 12 months, and we decent for another 2 months. But since December their performance has dropped significantly and I need to replace those suckers. Paid about $8 each blade at Costco, but don't have a membership anymore. I bought Anco ones for the Envoy from Wal-Mart almost two weeks ago and they so far have been great with all removing snow and the gunk from snow removal residue. The Envoy uses the old metal design wiper arm, whereas the G6 uses the new wiper arm design for increased aerodynamics.

Thank you for that great write-up, it sounds as if you had a great time. I'm patiently waiting for anyone to post some auto show pictures of this truck for me

And I declare a winner... Now give him the freakin' watch -
Bad news... call from Scott the manager from my local Advance Auto Parts wasn't good. He said not only did he call the warehouse, he checked other store inventories to see if he could get me what was needed but no other stores had them. He did offer me the $10 off discount that the Icons have right now on the NeoForms. Does anyone have experience with that series???
