Pictures and video of the B-J auction of these two Solstices: http://www.autoblog.com/2011/01/21/barrett-jackson-2011-first-and-last-2010-pontiac-solstice-on-th/ I guess this is where the "idea" for that special edition came from (2008 SEMA show car, based on a 2009 Solstice GXP Coupe): I personally like the white with the blue stripe better. Also, interesting fact that 20 2010 Pontiac Solstices, all GXPs, were made before the facotry shut down.

Vintage Promo 1/25 scale Pontiac Buick Dealership Sign
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in Merchandise Lookout
Nice signs, and if I was wealthy, I would bid on them (and please don't ask me to make you an offer, because you surely would be insulted at what I could afford ). The Terex sign is a new one to me, in that I never heard of GM and Terex together (being a truck & tractor enthusiast, I am aware of the Terex brand but never gave it any effort to research the history of the company). Thanks to wikipedia, I now understand what happened to Euclid and know about Terex. And while at first I could care less about the Terex sign, now all of a sudden I want that too (I'm dying to find a GMC Truck dealership sign, you wouldn;t have one of those on the affordable side, would ya?) -
Thank you Oldsmoboi, and I look forward to my new position here.

Thanks! Great, I guess now I'll have to like Chevy Trucks too... j/k!!

Thanks, bobo, I appreciate it! I think I originally joined or found the site because I was looking for information on the next generation GMC Sonoma (aka 2004 GMC Canyon)!

Happy Birthday! Have a great one

Design Competition #4 - K5 Design Contest
GMTruckGuy74 replied to Camino LS6's topic in Design Competitions
A ton (pun intended!) of entries were submitted by such creative artists, and many of them are such worthy competitiors. However, in my opinion, one stood out above the rest, because it reminds me of the one truck/SUV I so wanted in the '90s - the '92-'97 GMC Yukon 3-door. I'd place my vote, if I was being asked , on z28luvr01's design as it captures the GMT-400 generation very closely (all it needs is a full metal top to make me completely happy): -
Anyone care to look-up my join date? The web link doesn't want to work for me (maybe b/c I'm at work?). TIA!!

I'd take the 5-seater GMC Granite instead: -

I get what you were trying to do with the doors, but trucks have never had coupe doors and I can't just seem to accept that part of your design. However, I think minus the door issue, you rock one mean truck there DF!! -
Yeah, but me and Drew go way back... we're from the same county!!

Great job man, and it looks like something the General coulda/shoulda/woulda offered. Now a request - since they're badge-engineered anyway, can you put the GMC Canyon's face on it for me? Make it a voting poll, though I do agree that it would be very hard to choose the top 3 or 4 and in what order I would place them. -
D'oH!! And I looked at the picture right after posting it and saw Maryland. I have Delaware on the mind today!!

It's back, and I think at an increased price too: http://cnj.craigslist.org/atq/2160046976.html I'm still slightly interested in this cab, and if I had a decent chasis, engine & trans I'd probably be more interested. Balthazar, I'd hate to send you out to kick tires (well, I guess fenders since there's no tires to kick ) if you had the spare time, but I'd be intrigued to get your persoanl take on the shape/condition of this cab and its worthiness in a resto project. Plus pictures of the interior & dash would be nice

General Motors Major Guard Warranty (GM Major Guard)
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in The Lounge
I concur. And since I've found I'm happiest behind the wheel of a truck/SUV, and can't afford what I want new, protecting the Envoy (and my thin wallet) is the best course of action. Plus as you've pointed out numerous times over the years ( ), I've had my fair share of new vehicles. I'm glad though that caddycruiser/Derek has taken over that title now -
Saw this beauty (Camino will agree!) when we were in the Lancaster area Saturday (the picture was taken at the Goods Store on Route 23): Needless to say I was very happy to see a mid-to-late '80s GMC Caballero out in the wild (it was in excellent shape, btw). Funny thing is the door artwork states North Carolina (N.C.) yet the plates are Delaware?

Thanks for the input guys. The '54 is my favorite of that generation, both in GMC and Chevy, and would have to be the year if I was going with that kind of pickup. But I really want a '55-'56 GMC, and would even be happy with a '57, more. I really just want that steering wheel before the truck disappears (since there aren't many junkyards around to find those things at in NJ). I'm surprise Balthazar hasn't responded yet

General Motors Major Guard Warranty (GM Major Guard)
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in The Lounge
Yeah, I defintely want to get the Major Guard/GMPP warranty, but not happy with the price quoted by the dealer nor their willingness to budge on the price ($2,650 for 36mos/45k with $100 deductible). I didn't have any time to log on the computer at home this weekend, but I will try to get out some e-mails to the business managers of some local GM dealerships around me to see what they have to offer. The new vehicle idea is intriguing, but I can't let go of the Envoy quite yet (and I can't believe I'm saying that - me, not lusting for a new vehicle purchase - I must be sick!!). -
You know I approve, Walt! Great choice, and I'm happy to see more GMCs here. You'll have to let me know how it handles in the snow being a FWD. I too would have to have the 3.0L V6 engine; after owning the Saturn SKY with the 2.4L 4 cyl, which wasn't a bad engine but not what I expected, there's no way I could be happy with a 4 cyl equipped Terrain (the first one I ever drove in 2009 was with the 2.4 and I wasn't all that impressed). Those that want a cruiser & good MPGs buy the 2.4; those that want to haul stuff and haul a$$ buy the 3.0 I've learned My only sticking point is the FWD vs. the AWD issue. I know we only get a handful of snowstorms in NJ (it does seem like more though since two years ago), and now that I'm not teaching and only get "snow days" if the govenor declares a "state of emergency", I'd hate to be stuck somewhere because the FWD just isn't getting me through (especially since I have a 33 mile one-way commute to work). The FWD '03 Buick Rendezvous CX we had in the winter of 2004 just plain ol' sucked in the snow, though I will mostly blame the crappy Michelin tires GM used at the time (the traction system was trying its best to work, and the tires were only a year old at the time). Same with my previous '07 AURA XE and the wife's G6 - the crappy Hankook Optimo tires just don't have the wet weather performance needed in NJ I'm curious what size and brand tires your Terrain has (being SLT, 18" should be standard, and either Michelin Pilots or the Hankook brand).

Definitely a worthy challenger there BV. For some reason though I don't see this as full-size (maybe your intent), but rather Equinox-sized and built as the off-road version (2-door of course) to the more street-able 4-door Equinox. I love the look you went with though and this is a great entry. -

Great job! The only things I don't like are the JC Whitney bolt-on fender flares (not an insult to you), because the Tahoe is too classy of a truck for that kind of treatment, and the thin b-pillar (I don't associate thin pillars with BOF trucks). For the classy 2-door (3-door?) full-size SUV, the Tahoe is the right basis for this job; for the off-roading, butch-looking 2-door (3-door?) full-size SUV, I think the Silverado is the better basis (I'd buy that Tahoe though in a Heartbeat ) Again, great job DF and I agree with Camino - this just got more difficult to judge!! -
I'm going to cheat here a little bit... the first time I saw this truck was in the summer (2010) and wasn't able to get close to it for two reasons: (1) the critter living under the white step van didn't like me nearby, and (2) the wasps/bees that called the truck home took offense to me getting too close. However, I wanted to wait until the fall when the bush/small tree growing out of the back was dead for the season to get a clearer shot. That never happened and the first snow fall of winter gave me a better idea - get a shot of it surrounded by snow. Anyway, here's a totally unsalvagable 1954 GMC 150 pickup truck: Two questions: 1. Balthazar: How restorable is that steering wheel? A long time back I asked if anyone that cruises junkyards could find me this steering wheel (used on '54-'56 GMC & Chvey pickups). Well now I found one, but Balthazar's input is requested (I can send you the picture directly if that would be better for a close up inspection). 2. If Balthazar says that it won't cost me an arm & leg to restore the steering wheel, how should I go about asking the owner if he/she would care to part with the steering wheel? This truck is parked in the back of an old auto repair shop, and there's other older vehicles parked there too (ranging from the '50s to the '90s, but not a huge amount). This truck looks like it won't ever move from this spot until it's carted away for scrap, and it looks too far gone to be restored. Of course this shop doesn't look like a nice place to visit, even though it is not in a "bad" area. But I don't want to pass up on an opportunity to get this wheel.

General Motors Major Guard Warranty (GM Major Guard)
GMTruckGuy74 replied to GMTruckGuy74's topic in The Lounge
The wife laughed when I told her I want to buy an extended warranty for the Envoy... she thought I was going to say since the warranty is just about up it's time to buy another new vehicle (and I thought to myself, my name's not Derek - j/k with you man !!). It was an intriguing idea, but the only new GMC I may be able to afford is a FWD, 4cyl SLE Terrain and not only am I not interested in a base model truck, the size is an issue for my family of 5 (before buying the Envoy, I seriously considered a 2008 Pontiac Torrent GXP AWD but the rear seat wasn't accomodating enough with a booster seat, and infant carrier base, and room for one adult). A Sierra, equipped the way I want, is not only out of my comfort zone but the gas costs would kill me on top of the monthly payment. Moving back to a car is not really an option I want to take. I will definitely shop the GMPP/Major Guard around - there's plenty of GM dealers around and the Internet is a great tool to use (especially when dealerships are closed for the night). Thanks for the input so far, keep it coming
