  1. Yeah, I wondered about that too! My neighbor has inherited his grandparent's blueberry farm, about 10 miles away. That's where I've been thinking of storing a purchase, if ever made. I just wonder if he has an empty barn that would protect the truck from the outside weather? I haven't asked, because I want to wait until I know I've got something to put in there if available. Honestly, does anyone think that truck is too far rusted? I wouldn't want to buy a money pit. I know he mentions an extra cab with good doors and fenders, and some previous postings he's made showed the extra cab. I'm very tempted to go look at it, but with only 1/4 of the money needed, it would be just wasting his time. Now if he'd take $2,000 for the lot, maybe I could find the extra $1k needed to make that happen...
  2. Thank you for that clarification, it really helps. I think it's good then that the Buick & GMC smaller CUVs won't be on the same platform, giving buyers some differentiation, and I forgot that the Buick will be on Gamma and not Delta II. I've been in my Buick-GMC dealer's showrooms enough of times waiting for service and overhearing customers ask why the Acadia and Enclave are so similar (which I think they mean by size & price for fully loaded models) and in the same dealership. Clearly there are differences to the naked eye, but being the same size and priced closely doesn't help.
  3. I feel for you Paolino, I really do. I taught Business Education (Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Word 2003, Web Page Design, etc) and Career & Technical Education (Cooperative Education - Marketing, Business; Structured Learning Experience - Freshman Seminar/Career Exploration, Deborah Heart & Lung Center Junior Volunteer Program)) for ten years in NJ. This is a dying field (Business Education; CTE is finding new life right now), and in reality schools aren't adding these positions, just refilling retirees if budgets allow. Tell me, what person doesn't need to know business? There is a HUGE need for CPAs and accounting in general, yet a good majority of high school grads going to college for this never took an accounting class in high school. The State of NJ DOE feels that Personal Financial Literacy, which is really the hot topic right now, was important for all high school grads to have as a grad requirement - until the new governor decided he couldn't justify spending the money for this program - social studies, business, CTE teachers would have been the ones teaching it, saving jobs. But the governor feels it's not important for NJ's ypung people to have a course to teach them the basic fundamentals of saving money, obtaining & using credit wisely, how to use a checkbook * checking account, and how to make your money grow (a lot of Business & CTE teachers already incorporate this into their lessons, but not on the level a dedicated course would have provided much more important information). I'm glad to see the Physical Education classes are paying off, with the amount of non-obese students we have enrolled in our high schools today (these classes are a joke - walk around the gym for 20 laps while listening to pop music, play racket-wiffle ball inside the gym, etc.). When I was in high school gym (graduated in '93), you actually had to play some sort of physical sport or you didn't pass gym. Today you can pass by just changing into your gym uniform and walking in a large circle!! Best of luck to you Paolino, I hope something positive happens for you.
  4. I'm sorry, I didn't ask the question the right way. Regarding the current body & platform, this will be the only generation, correct? I take it from your comment that the 2nd generation then will be on the new platform; is my interpretation correct? Is there a timeframe in mind as to when the 2nd gen will debut? Also, will the new, smaller Terrain be on the same platform as the "baby Enclave"? If yes, seems redundant to offer these two trucklets in the same showroom, which is why they are moving the Acadia down in size from the Enclave (not pointing at you, Drew).
  5. Are you also living in New Jersey? The reason I ask is that's why I was laid-off last year, and job prospects for the upcoming school year ('11-'12) are not looking any better because of the impending budget address our governor, Chris Christie, will be delivering soon (articles in the county newspaper are already spelling doom & gloom for school budgets next year). Many districts, especially in the county that I live in (Burlington), are already stating the amount of projected loss in budget and the results - less teachers, staff, supplies, and extra-curricular programs for the students. I believe the budget address is scheduled for next Tuesday (2/22), but I'm hearing from previous colleagues that there is a lot of talk of impending retirements (which is a good thing for younger teachers). If you don't live in NJ, care to say what state?
  6. This... Would become this (eventually)... If I bought it. Does anyone want to help make a dream come true???
  7. Okay, so I'm gonna ask, Camino... just how much extra room do you have in that barn?
  8. Amen to that, ocnblu!! This is what I've been search for... an all-original, all parts there project truck to restore back to as new, or better than new, condition. It's just that I'm about $3,999 short in my wallet right now Pottstown... isn't that off Route 100? The PA Turnpike exit before Morgantown, right? Not far at all for me to get to, but again why go to kick tires?
  9. Let's just hope it doesn't get too much smaller, in effect ruining the reputation that it's earning from its owners now. Many people who buy the Terrain look at the Equinox, so let's hope this plan doesn't alienate GMC sales and in turn balloon Chevy sales. Also, does this mean that the Terrain will be a one-generation model only then?
  10. Oh yes, I've been keeping an eye on that for a little while now. It's really a '56, not a '57 - but that's okay, I really want a '56 the most. Now if I only had $4,000 plus an indoor storage facility for all the extra parts and cab! I am tempted to go and see it when the weather gets warmer, just to see how original & complete it is. Anyone want to give me a loan?!?
  11. Hmm... I'm not sure how I feel about this right now. The Acadia has been a good seller for GMC, bringing in a lot of female buyers that would have not considered GMC before (i.e. becasue of being all "trucks"); same with the Terrain, though I find most women I know to like the softer/car-like Equinox styling over the truckier/boxier Terrain styling. So smaller in this sense may bring in amore diverse group of buyers. Also, while I'm not favorable of GM changing names, I think this would be a good time to change "Terrain" to something else. The reason? GMC's "All Terrain" off-road package, which could replace Z71 for GMC. I think GMC should offer a more rugged version of the Terrain, a'la Jeep Patriot (from the softer Compass model). But what would you call it? The GMC "All Terrain" Terrain? I like the mountain/stone naming structure GMC is using - Denali, Yukon, Sierra, Canyon, and even the proposed Granite. I'd suggest GMC continues with this "rock" naming structure for it's vehicles (Savana could remain, why change?) - Slate, Huron, Santana, Mica, Everest, Glacier, or bring back Sonoma and Rainier (though it was a Buick name, it was still featured on a truck). I'm still wondering if Mack Trucks will sue GM if they go with the Granite name (Mack's construction series trucks are called "Granite"). However, I do like that name and feel it would best be used on a capable on/off-road type of truck, not just a soft roader. As long as GMC doesn't lose models I'm fine with this arrangement, and it could make better financial sense for the brand. I know many current Acadia owners may not be happy, but it depends on the outcome (like the Cadillac SRX - the previous wagon-esque version didn't sell as well as the current CUV version is). And given the fact that the Enclave sells under the same roof, though to a different customer, the dealerships will not lose out but gain a different product to sell. Again, I just hope the next Terrain doesn't wimp out and offers some truck-like performance (off-road capability, similar to the new Ford Explorer). As far as the Cadillac Lambda, I have no problem with this if it replaces the current Escalade. It seems as if the EXT version will go away when the Chevy Avalanche does, and with the GMC Denali line-up why field two full-size luxury SUV entries? Put that R&D money into the Denali's and let Caddy have a more on-road product (Lambda).

  13. 1998-2003 GMC Sonoma dash: 2004-2011 GMC Canyon dash:
  14. I actually like that look, sort of what the '94-'97 GMC Sonoma & Chevy S-10 pickups would have eventually evolved into: And it would be cool if the Chevy takes the Equinox look, the GMC borrows the boxier styling of the Terrain. And ocnblu, I do like the current GMT-355's a lot, but I have to agree with others that the '98-'03 small trucks had a better design to their dash. I absolutely loved my '01 GMC Sonoma SLS Ext Cab "Highrider" pickup, but that interior was squeaky from day one and looked like a Little Tikes or Fisher Price toy. However, the Canyon/Colorado interior looks too basic, and GM has never put the money into doing anything other than adding some chrome trim since these trucks debuted in late 2003. I can't stand the steering wheel design, and the fact that these trucks have never gotten an upgraded radio system, with AUX input or USB input, simply amazes me. I would have loved to own a regular cab, short bed GMC Canyon 4WD Off-Road (aka Z71) before GMC cancelled this configuration... I see plenty of these around me that still makes me drool. Let's hope the new small trucks are worthy contenders.

Plenty of great classic GM vehicles and concepts, surrounded by other great GM people. Off-topic: Okay, who do you have to know to have your memorial service held there? Of course if I'm dead what good does it do (unless I come back for it in ghost form ), but I couldn't think of a better place for my memorial service than the GM Heritage Center. Of course, my favorite picture from the group.
  16. Link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110216/ap_on_hi_te/us_teacher_suspended_blog Having spent 10 years teaching 9th-12th grade students (14-19 years old) in Business and Career & Technical Education (Cooperative Education & Structured Learning Experience), I can agree with many of her points and statements. However, as a professional educator, I cannot agree with her medium of choice and standing behind the "freedom of speech" right. When I was teaching I did not have a Facebook page; I added one after being laid-off to stay in contact with former students, but do not post anything that may prevent me from getting another teaching job in the future. Younger teachers today don't have the common sense needed to prevent themselves from trouble like this, as technology has been a big part of their lives.
  17. This talk about leasing is making me drool... I leased new GM vehicles from May of '99 to November '06, but can't help you at all with your question. However, reading about incentivized leases is making me want to visit my local GMC dealership to see what I could drive away in
  18. Is this really how Toyota wants to sell more pickups? Because it was built in Texas??? Oh geez, let me run to my nearest Toyo dealer and trade in my capable 3500 pickup (GMC. Chevy, Ford, Ram) for a Toyo Tundra, BECAUSE IT WAS MADE IN TEXAS. Yee Haw!!
  19. But it would be cooler if they made it look like this instead:

  21. Depends on what they'll look like (the design needs to be American truck-inspired IMHO).

  23. Okay, I'm gonna add a 3rd vote too... compact, affordable pickup trucks:
