  1. Well, a lot of information has been provided to me, so now it's time to hit the tire dealers and see what prices they quote. Based on the comments, here's my shopping list (in no particular order): 2008 Pontiac G6 V6 Sedan (size 225/50-17): 1. Continental ExtremeContact DWS 2. Cooper Tires CS4 Touring V-rated 3. Goodyear Assurance TripleTred 2006 GMC Envoy SLT 4WD (size 245/65-17): 1. Goodyear Fortera TripleTred 2. Michelin LTX M/S New question: Road Hazard Warranty - yay or nay? I would like to use Tire Rack for the purchase, but am not satisfied with any of the tire installers they recommended (nothing is close by). Also, many of the local shops advertise discounts to military/police/fire fighters, and I am a member of my township Emergency Services, so by wearing my t-shirt entitles me to an additional discount However, if I went the Tire Rack route, a Wal-Mart is close by... any advise on using them for tire installation services? I cannot find Tire Rack on C&G... is there a specific link or code so C&G could credit for my purchase?
  2. I was waiting for you to chime in on the Cooper CS4s!!! I haven't forgotten your advertisement of them last year when I asked. My dad bought the basic Cooper Response tires at Sears for his '06 G6 V6 Sedan and has been happy with them on his car, so I know someone personally that's happy with the Cooper brand. I'd have to go with the CS4s though. Thanks for weighing in!
  3. And on that note, there's another surprise in the family coming soon to these pages...of course right at the same time. Stay tuned... You and your surprises! Be glad I'm a patient person
  4. Wow, I never realized the HHR sold that many. I see them everywhere, sure, but Chevy dealers around me never seemed to have more than 5 in-stock at a time (now I know why, because of large sales #'s). I think if the Granite is to be the HHR replacement, and the public AND current HHR owners are receptive to it, the Granite will sell (funny thing is that I've already mentioned the wife doesn't like the HHR but she is receptive to the Granite). On the VW Bulli, I think it is nice but I think the 2001 concept was a better interpretation of the original hippie '60s/'70s VW Microbus/van: The VW Bulli looks like a late entry copy of the Scion x D, which the same argument can be made about the Granite too ( ). So, the market may have this: ...and this: ...to compete with the Scion x D, Honda Element (until it goes away), Nissan Cube, and Kia Soul. At least GM might get into this market soon, and offer a pickup too (which could beat Scion's plans).
  5. Welcome back! It's always nice to see GMC owners here. Be sure to post pictures of your rides in the Garage
  6. Thanks for the ton of information in your post. Unfortunately, the Michelin Pilot Exalto's aren't available in my size (P225/50-17), otherwise I'd consider them (that's why I posted about the Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires). The '08 G6 came with crappy Hankook Optimo tires that currently have 40,871 miles on them but sucked after about 28k. The wife would not allow us to drive the G6 in any wet weather since October when we been commuting to work (the Envoy's OEM tires, the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires, have a tick over 47k on them and have been decent, but I only got 44k out of them on my '05 and the last 4-5k miles were not happy ones). caddycruiser put the Michelin LTX M/S2 tires on his Avalanche with great results, but they don't offer them in my size (245/65-17). But again, I appreciate your input.
  7. Those Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires have some great reviews behind them, and the price for the size I need is great (P225/50-17). I may have to look into these a little more based on the price alone. Thanks for the input!!
  8. Good luck with the move tomorrow, and here's to waiting to the last minute!
  9. Was that a fairly recent episode? Could I find it on Hulu?
  10. Okay, if Volkswagen is going to bring this (Bulli) to market, GMC better work quick on bringing the Granite out so not to look as if they're following the leader as usual.
  11. Got an ERROR 404 message when I clicked on the link. I found it by searching the site, but when I tried to fix it, it did't work? Anyway, let's see if this works: http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2010/11/gmc-granite-concept-%e2%80%93-a-compact-pickup-for-millennials/ Thanks for posting the article. I think the Granite pickup would sell, as long as 100k units is not the goal (unless that number is a combination of CUV and Pickup models). As been mentioned many times, this lower cost, fuel efficient option could work out for a lot of people and I for one would be interested in looking at buying one for myself.
  12. I agree with the assessment of this season's The Office. It seems every-other episode has been funny, and the "Threat Level Midnight" episode was just The episode where Dwight dominated Jim with the snowball fight was horrible, Jim should never back down from Dwight (I like how it started though). Once Michael Scott (Steve Carrell) leaves, I'm not sure I will enjoy the show afterwards. Community is a good show, though I don't always think it's that funny. I've given Parks and Recreation several chances (mainly because I like Rashida Jones, that's why!) and I just don't always find it funny. I liked Outsourcing in the beginning, but haven't watch the last 10 or so episodes. Now for a truly funny show, watch Modern Family on ABC Wednesday nights (EST 9:00 PM). That show has never let me down each week and it is truly hilarious. I'm surprised no one here didn't mention that already. It is a classic sitcom - boy, I miss those dearly the most out of al today's programming - and the cast is great.
  13. And don't forget Emilio!!
  14. Yeah, after reading about tires for almost two years, I'm inclined to go with the Goodyears, especially since I want to buy two sets (G6 and Envoy) and would hope that would give me a better deal.
  15. Link: http://chevy100.auto...om/default.aspx Available Ocotber 31, 2011, all current Automotive News subscribers will receive a soft cover free, non-members can subscribe now for $99 and receive this issue, or you can buy a soft cover for $49.95 (hard cover $50 more). Also, be sure to check out that link for cool Chevy owner stories and commercials through the years. *UPDATE 4/29/11* I asked Oldsmoboi if it would be possible for C&G to buy multiple copies of this magazine and re-sell them to members here because of the cost savings. If you were to buy just one copy, it's $49.95 + S&H; if you were to buy 2-10 copies it's lowered to $39.95 + S&H; and if you were to buy 11-25 copies, the price is just $29.95 + S&H. I can't do $40 or $50, but $30 + S&H is possible (but I can't do it alone). Is anyone else interested in buying a copy of this magazine? It won't be available until October, but would be an interesting piece of automobilia for your collection. Oldsmoboi will do the transaction if there is enough interest (at least 11 copies, I want one so that means only 10 more committed members). Please post here if you would commit to buying a copy so we can gauge the interest. Thanks!
  16. Gentlemen, please let's keep this discussion civil and not call names. And stay on topic without insulting anyone.
  17. Anyone in, around, or familiar with South Bend, Indiana?? I PROMISE I will not ask for a ride to & from the airport, or to stay at your place I just want to ask some questions, mainly about flying into the area and how far of a drive to the place from the airport. Promise!
  18. Goodyear Assurance TripleTred (Passenger All-Season): Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus (Ultra High Performance All-Season): Cooper CS4 Touring V-Rated (Passenger All-Season): Tax return is in and new tires for both vehicles was earmarked from that money. I'm going to start contacting local tire shops for price quotes on a set of tires for the wife's G6. I'm also going to get a set for the Envoy, and decided on the Goodyear Fortera TripleTred; that is, unless the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor comes in at a much better price (though I need more Highway/All-Season than On-Off-Road/All Terrain tires). Since I think a shop may offer me a better deal if I get two sets of tires for both vehicles at the same place, and I like the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred ratings on TireRack, I'm leaning more towards the Goodyears. I'd just like a little input from posters here first.
  19. I think I'm going to pass on the rim replacement idea for now. I have the money to buy new tires but not new rims, even if I went the salvage yard route. There is nothing wrong with my factory 17" rims other than they're not my favorite design. I'll go forward with the new tires and maybe later look into the same size aftermarket rims. Thanks again for all the input and education on rim sizing.
  20. THe last post inspired me to make my first-ever paint-a'la-photoshop entry The GMC Granite PRO (Ford Transit competitor):
  21. Balthazar - I don't think the Granite would be another SSR issue. THe problem with the SSR was the price of entry and the engine choice at launch for a Super Sports Roadster. It was meant to be the Corvette of Chevy Trucks, and unfortunately it wasn't well recieved (I still think the panel version SUV should have been offered 1 or 2 years after launch). The Granite pickup would target a totally different consumer than the SSR. As such, someone needing a small trucklet that is fuel efficient and capable of handling weekend work loads may find this appealing. And since the Transit Connect has been mentioned as a competitor, I could see GMC adding a tall cap/body on top of the pickup bed with those sliding doors we've already seen on the concept allowing mid-body access. If the Granite dual line-up was produced I would be very inclined to consider buying one as my daily driver for commuting to work. The question would be which one to buy? It's just the wife and I Monday thru Friday, and having an SUV already (Envoy) would make the pickup version more ideal. However, for weekend family hauling, the CUV would be better (but again, the Envoy could be used for family weekend hauling, and having the pickup could come in handy when an open bed is needed for hauling duty). Either way, GM has one really interested customer with me, and the new GMI700 Canyon would be the only other vehicle that would sway me from the Granite if I end up liking that more.
  22. Cool iPhone video of the liftoff from a commercial airline flight: http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_upshot/20110227/tr_yblog_upshot/space-shuttle-seen-from-above
  23. It reminds me of the local white '87 Grand Prix LE I'm keeping my eye on
  24. Family was split by GM and Ford. My mother's side almost always had a GM, though my uncle worked as a Ford salesman in the late '60s/early '70s and had a couple Fords. He then came back to GM, leasing a lot of his cars (I remember his '82 Cammaro and his last, '87 Bonneville LE until his death in '93. His daughter, my cousin, had a late '70s Nova (puke green) given by her grandmother, then she bought a new '89 Pontiac LeMans coupe. My aunt had a '65 Impala coupe, something else, then a '73-4-5 Cutlass Supreme for a long time before buying the '89 Ninety-Eight Regency until her death in '04. Another aunt had a late '70s Monte Carlo before getting an early '80s Malibu sedan, then a late '80s Celebrity Eurosport, then a Dodge Monaco sedan (she now has an '09 Impala after some other GM vehicles). My other aunt was the oddball, having owned a lot of used cars of various makes before buying my sister's '93 240SX. My one cousin had a Mercury Tracer for years before buying foreign, while another cousin has had a lot of everything - '84 Regal Limited, '92 Cavalier Z24, '82 Cadillac Seville (bustleback), and various SUVs (Envoy, Durango, etc). My mom had a '79 Ford Granada that I remember as the earliest car, then moving on to her '83 GRand Prix LJ, '93 Plymouth Sundance, '95 Monte Carlo LS, and her '05 Saturn VUE AWD. My dad had a series of used cars when I was little, allowing my mom to always have the new car (he had two Dodges that I remember, one being an early '70s Duster), before he bought a new '88 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD. His next vehicle was a leased 2000 GMC Sonoma Highrider, a 2002 Sunfire SE coupe, and now an '06 G6 V6 Sedan. My sister started with an '84 Ford Mustang LX, then tried to buy a new '89 Firebird Formula but the dealer wouldn't deal her way so it became an '89 Ford Probe LX. That car turned into a '92 Ford Thunderbird and quickly became a '93 Nissan 240SX. Her next vehicles were leased, including a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, '00 Nissan Pathfinder, a '05 Envoy XL SLT, and then two Honda Pilots (her current is a '10 model). My bro-in-law started with a mid-'80s Dodge Laser, then a '89 Toyota Tacoma 4x4, a '92 Camry XLE, a '98 Nissan Maxima, and he has government vehicles for work (usually SUVs). My wife's mother had a '70s Pontiac Ventura and then Fords & Mercurys - Taurus sedan & wagon, then a Topaz sedan. My wife's first car was a Geo Storm and then she in herited her mom's Topaz. Dad's side was FOMOCO with GM occasionally and then foreign. My grandfather had a '60s Mercury Monteclair, then an '80s Crown Vic, an '86 Aerostarr van, and ended with an early '90s Lincoln Towncar until his death in 2002. My grandmother never drove and my aunt inherited my grandfather's used vehicles (Crown Vic & Aerostarr). My uncle had '79 Ford F250 and my aunt had a late '70s Caprice station wagon. He had other Ford F250s, an '82, '87, and '92 or '93. My aunt had a series of Lincoln Towncars before moving over to BMWs (my cousins got BMWs for their first cars). I've owned nothing but GM vehicles - '78 Camaro LT, '92 Cavalier Z24, '95 Trans AM, '99 GRand AM GT1, '00 Grand Prix GT (wife), '01 GMC Sonoma Highrider, '03 REndezvous CX (wife), '04 Malibu LT, '05 Envoy SLT, '07 SKY, '07 AURA XE, '08 G6 V6 (wife), '96 Fleetwood Brougham, '06 Envoy SLT. I don't forsee myself owning anything other than a GM, but I do love Jeep Wranglers and the new Grand Cherokees, so maybe?
  25. That color combo screams mid-'50s Americana to me... one of the reasons I love that combo on all kinds of '50s vehicles. Would be a nice car to restore and take to car shows.
