  1. I wish! Just from what you taught me, master Now about the Terradyne, when can you take me for a spin in it? And how about the Sierra All-Terrain HD?
  2. Congrats on the new car purchase, Oracle! On my way to work I pass a Chevy dealership that recently received their first '11 Camaro Convertible... pretty sharp looking car, and the color is awesome (deep red with the tan top). I know you will get full enjoyment out of that Camaro.
  3. So now that you are approaching 72 hours of ownership, how do you feel about your purchase? Is the car satisfying your automotive needs? I thought of you today when driving to work, passed a yellow-colored Fiesta.
  4. A clearer picture from a Google image search:
  5. ...but too bad it's just another Matchbox and not the real thing. This one is pretty cool, and I was lucky to find more than one on the rack: (btw, sorry for the crappy droid phone pics)
  6. Yeah, I would have liked that more than the hinged 3rd door on my 2001 GMC Sonoma. Too bad GM either didn't get it worked out right or it would have cost them too much money/profit to offer the sliding door.
  7. Maybe, hyper, and that would be my usual way of thinking too about Oracle. But I think he posted this because of the Chevrolet (GMC) Sedona pickup he posted in the other thread, and the fact that the GMC Centaur influenced that design greatly. I wouldn't read anymore into this that that point there. Yes, sometimes you have to read 'between the lines' with Oracle, but in this case I think he's just making a reference point. However, he can prove me wrong if he wants to
  8. Yeah, like 18 years ago!! I do recall seeing this before, somewhere. Cool looking truck, but gotta say I'm glad GM didn't go in that direction for the new compact pickups for '94 (though I like the nod to the GMT-800 pickups with the bed & taillight design over the GMC Centaur-inspired bed & taillight design). And for those not familiar with GM concept trucks, here's the '93 Chevy Highlander concept that did showcase the new styling direction of the then new-for-'94 S10 pickup: And why does everyone always assume that concept trucks are Chevrolets? Clearly the writer didn't look at the photos close enough: 1990 Chevrolet-GMC Sedona, interior.bmp The steering wheel cover clearly says "GMC"!! Which would make sense, as GMC renamed the S-15 'Sonoma', which is close enough to 'Sedona' (Chevy stuck with 'S10'). However, I will defer to Oracle, as he works for GM and would know for sure if this is really a Chevy or GMC.
  9. Well, if it makes you feel any better, you're not the only C&G member suffering from medical problems... almost three weeks ago I was stricken by gout in my left foot. I was unable to walk from 2/27 until 3/3 without crutches, and was able to 'get' a shoe on my foot on on 3/5 (very painfully). I just started feeling better about a day and a half ago (swelling has completely gone now), and today is the first day I didn't take an Indomethicin pill (anti-inflammatory). I go tonight to my docotor for follow-up, had bloodwork done Tuesday to determine what my uric acid levels are (the cause of gout). I've suffered from this on-and-off (left & right feet and right knee) for nearly 6 years now If anyone feels your pain, it's me. Here's to a speedy recovery
  10. And I'd like to meet more in person, too. There's some in NJ alone (Balthazar, SAmadei) that I haven't met yet and should soon. And if knightfan ever gets down my way in southern NJ on one of his famous road trips, I'd like to meet him too!
  11. I've decided on the Michelin LTX A/T2 tires after doing some additional research and comparisons today. Saving $133 over the Goodyears, plus the extra treadlife reported on the Michelins, is what swayed me. I prefer the sidewall design/style of the Goodyear Fortera TripleTreds to the plain/boring Michelins, but that's no sensible reason to spend an extra $133 I made the appointment for Saturday morning for the Envoy; the G6 is going in Friday afternoon. I'll eventually make a post with reviews of both tires in case anyone cares. Oldsmoboi, please feel free to close this thread. Thanks to all that contributed you insight & input!!
  12. I mean no disrepect, but nothing would please me more than seeing GMC Sierra HDs and Chevrolet Silverado HDs being sent over to help in the clean-up and rescue/recovery aid. Like back in November, 2004 when GM, through Hummer, donated Hummer vehicles and money ($4 million over 6 years): Link: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2004/11/10/277170.1-lg.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2004/11/10/277170.html&usg=__IZZ0MYdALFyHgewo-Avl324FJps=&h=211&w=400&sz=21&hl=en&start=13&zoom=1&tbnid=9lzpFxA6aTlnSM:&tbnh=65&tbnw=124&ei=kDWBTYSSI8fTgQf9_72QCA&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dred%2Bcross%2Bhummer%26hl%3Den%26gbv%3D2%26tbs%3Disch:1&itbs=1
  13. Thanks all! My wife just gave me a "are you serious" look when I told her yesterday She thinks I spend way too much time here and thinks it's funny how I refer to posters like I know all of you personally. Women... I really enjoy the camaraderie of this place, though good times and bad. It has been my main source of GM information since Day #1, and I've learned a ton of stuff about other manufacturers & the industry in general too in the process. Here I am today, Year 9, Day #2, like clockwork
  14. Where's the dealer at?
  15. Oh, and of course as I read this morning's newspaper there's a flyer/insert for Pep Boys which is offering a buy 3 get the 4th tire free deal (rebate), and they carry the Cooper CS4 Touring tires: This would be a much cheaper option than the Michelin's, but of course I couldn't have gotten this information a day earlier to consider/check out before calling the Michelin dealer and making the appointment I may just call the local Pep Boys place to see what the price would be on these.
  16. Well, I've made my decision for the Pontiac G6 - the Michelin Energy Saver A/S. I spoke with the Michelin dealer yesterday afternoon that gave me the best price on them and he highly recommends them. When asked about the Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires, he said that they have great ratings on TireRack.com but he's been replacing a lot of them installed this past fall because the abuse they suffered after the winter storms (he said something about the sidewalls are very soft). I made an appointment for this Friday to have them installed and an alignment done. He also supplied me a price on the Goodyear Fortera TripleTreds, though he was pushing the Michelin Cross Terrains over the Goodyears (these are the OEM tires for the GMT-360s). I told him I've had two sets of these tires on Envoys and have not gotten more than 40k mileage out of them, plus I've felt they aren't great wet traction tires after 32-35k. I told him that if I had an option for Michelin tires it would be the LTX M/S2 tires, which they don't offer in my size. He agreed that the M/S2's are a better tire over the regular M/S tires, and said that Michelin is in the process of developing the M/S2 in my size but not any time soon. He said if I wanted those tires, that the Michelin LTX A/T2 would be a good tire to consider. Even though the LTX A/T2's are an All Terrain tire, he said the tread is just a little heavier than the LTX M/S2's and are very similar to the Goodyear Fortera TripleTred but cheaper than them. I've checked them out online and many people say they're happy they bought them and they're not as All Terrain as the LTX A/T (first series) tires (MPG's aren't as affected and road noise is no worse than the OEM Cross Terrains). I have to make a decision today because I want them installed on Saturday and if I went with the Goodyears he'd have to order them (2 days max to get them he said). Here's the two tires: Michelin LTX A/T2: Goodyear Fortera TripleTred: I thoughy I had my mind made up on the Envoy, but not now. The other thing to consider is the price difference between these two tires: Goodyear's will run me $971 (Sears Auto Center's price, which the Michelin dealer will match); Michelins are $828 (Goodyear has an $80 rebate, Michelin has a $70 rebate). Care to weigh in with your thoughts on these two tires?
  17. Congrats on the new ride, ocnblu. I think we need to start betting on who will own more ne vehicles - you or caddycruiser Please don't start a new thread in 9 months, saying how much you miss your Colorado and want to get another one... make this Fiesta last at least until the new 2013/2014 model is introduced Many Happy fuel efficient Motoring miles to you, my friend!!
  18. Hahaha... what a way to be remembered here! But I wish I was the saint you are making me out to be. Yes, I am a people-pleaser and a mediator-type in real life, and I guess that it carries over to the Internet (well, at least here). I'm also known as a "ray of sunshine" at work
  19. Also, it has been great meeting several of the posters in person - Drew (Oldsmoboi), Camino (Bob), Bill (ocnblu), FlyBrian (Brian) - am I forgeting anybody? And I look forward to meeting more in person... maybe I should revisit the 'club gathering' suggestion at this year's All-GM Nationals in Carlisle (June)???
  20. Today is my 9th anniversary of joining Cheers & Gears!! I joined on March 15, 2002 and have never been able to leave. To all of the "old timers" here - thank you for a wonderful nine years spent with you and your thoughts, advice, and news. To those that have joined in the recent past, thank you for sharing your input and insight with me and others in the time you've been here. I have to admit that I cannot seem to live without visiting this place at least once a day, even when I'm on vacation or preoccupied with other things (thank God for an android cell phone!). I remember the reason I found C&G was due to my searching the Interner for information on the next generation S-Series pickups - which would eventually be renamed Canyon (Sonoma) and Colorado (S-10). Since then my passion for GM became even larger with my visits here and I've been severely addicted to this place and the people that reside here (those still here and those no longer a member). A BIG thanks to Walt Keegan for bringing this site to life, to FlyBrian for his efforts in keeping this place alive mid-decade, and of course now to our fearless leader Drew (Oldsmoboi) for his immense contributions to this place by not only keeping it going, but with great improvements and features. I hope to be celebrating for many more years with everyone here.
  21. Yeah, I'm leaning more towards the Michelin's for the G6, Continentals next (though I know no one personally that owns Continentals). Nothing for the Envoy yet, but soon. Against your recommendation, I'm going with the Goodyear Fortera TripleTred's. A couple of posters on a GMT-360 forum have been very happy with them, and I know several people personally that own them and are happy (some are firefighters at my firehouse where I'm a Fire Police Officer). A lot of teh Michelin dealers are pushing the Cross Terrains (OEM tires), and after two sets I can't say I like them after 35-40k miles. I know what TireRack's survey says about treadlife on the Fortera's, but I think I'm willing to give them a shot. I want to make a decision by tomorrow this time so I can call and get the dealers to make sure they hold the tires for installation on Saturday for both vehicles. BTW, here's a Word document of the TireRack surveys for these four tires: TireRack.com Survey Results.doc
  22. Okay, need to spend under $800 for the Pontiac G6's new tires... here's what I can get for that amount: Michelin Energy Saver A/S ($766 total; $70 Rebate) TireRack's rating: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Energy+Saver+A%2FS Continental ExtremeContact DWS ($724 total; though most dealers say these are on backorder one dealer said he can get them) TireRack's rating: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ExtremeContact+DWS Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring ($880 total; $40 Rebate) <-- this one pushes the $800 limit TireRack's rating: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Assurance+ComforTred+Touring Goodyear F1 All Season ($775 total; $80 Rebate) TireRack's rating: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+F1+All+Season Which would you go with???
  23. Well, I currently can't afford anything new, especially what I really want (GMC Sierra 1500 4WD Crew Cab). If the Envoy was totalled, I'd look into leasing an Acadia or Terrain for the time being until something I really want AND can afford comes along. If that wasn't possible, I think I'd look for a CPO Pontiac G8 (V6) or a well cared for used '05/'06 GMC Sierra or Yukon, or an Envoy (maybe even a Denali) from 2007+ with the 18" rims that I like The wife on the otherhand has been wanting a new Buick LaCrosse; however, recently she has fallen in love with the new Ford Fiesta and would consider one of those (my vote would be for the Buick; I'd also recommend the Regal too).
  24. On the new vehicle side, no chance unless I hit the Mega Millions or NJ Lottery (which would require me to play more than I do now, which is nil). The wife has a little over 3 years left on her 72 month loan on the '08 G6, and unless it's absolutely needed, we'll be keeping that car payment-free for 2-3 years aferwards. The '06 Envoy just celebrated its one-year anniversary with me yesterday, March 12, and is not close to being fully paid off (there's more than a few years left there). Unless a contingency plan is needed (wife wants a new Buick LaCrosse if that ever comes to be, and I have no idea what I could afford <truck, SUV> to replace the Envoy), a new vehicle is not on the radar for the wife or me. Now my step-son turns 17 in April, minumim driving age in NJ (probationary license). He failed the written driver's test last school year (Jan '10); a very nice Phys Ed teacher this past January offered to re-test students that failed last year. He studied that driver's manual from cover to cover, and passed. His grandmother and him split the cost of a driving school's 6-hour behind the wheel course, and he now has his 16 y-o's learner's permit with his driver's test scheduled in late September. Now he is saving up for a car, though my wife and I think he needs to worry about other things than a car (like what he plans to do re: post high school plans first). I'm for his gaining some freedom and independence, but our limited funds leave us unable to help him much. He is the one in the house most likely to get a vehicle, albeit very used, this year. I still have that beautiful white and gray '87 Pontiac Grand Prix LE on my radar, though lack the necessary funds to make that happen now. The GM dealership it is at is no longer a new vehicle dealership - first, they lost Pontiac in 2009, and then at some point late in 2010 they lost the Cadillac franchise (it is now just an AC Delco authorized repair facility). Last I checked (October), the two '80s GPs were still parked inside the garage covered up (I need to get over there soon to update this info). If things work out, I may try to obtain this car in the next 12 months (by work out, that means take the meager savings I have leftover from last summer and combine that with money I earn from selling off toys & some automobilia taking up a lot of space in my basement). Of course a wrench in the gears would be finding a '55-'57 GMC that would take the place of the '87 GP... No other vehicle purchases needed by family members or close friends to the best of my knowledge. Which sucks for me, because I like helping people shop for cars (and stopping at dealerships for brochures and info)
  25. Simply horrible. My heart and prayers go out to the survivors.
