  1. I had him take a "break" from car shopping to save up more $$$ from working at his part-time job. His driver's license test is scheduled for September 8 and of course being less than a month away he's itching to find a vehicle. Anyway, his latest Craigslist search brought this: http://southjersey.craigslist.org/cto/2512805947.html 1999 olds bravada platinum edition - 130k miles, $2,750 Since he works drive-thru (Boston Market), he's been eyeing up cars left and right that he likes. The Bravada has piqued his interest, and he already likes the Jimmy & Blazer but thinks the Bravada looks more 'upscale'... Any advice on areas to check if we go see this one in person?
  2. Hey FOG, would you be able to take some "better" pictures if it happens to sell before it gets advertised on the website? I'd love to have some quality shots of this truck for my collection. TIA
  3. Actually, here's two good sources of information for you to utilize for your write-up: http://www.1955gmc.com/ and http://www.classic-car-history.com/chevy-cameo.htm Some of my observations about this truck... - The rim color is not correct for the truck... GMC would have painted the stock rims white. - The color is not accurate too, as Chevy offered the '55.2 Cameo in white (bombay ivory) with the red trim - GMC didn't offer a white body with red two-tone, according to this site: http://www.1955gmc.com/1955gmccolors.html. Again, not horribly wrong, but not accurate of a '55.2 GMC Suburban Carrier pickup - The tires look too modern and the white-wall stripe is too thin.. many of these trucks are dolled-up with '50s typical wide white-wall tires. - The hubcaps are wrong too, should look like this: So, would I still buy it if I had that kind of cash? You betcha!!
  4. You and me both. I'd love to own a '55.2 or '56 GMC pickup - that's my ultimate goal. Take you're time, I'm a patience person It's there, I can see it in the first picture FOG posted Here's what it looks like from a direct angle: Any info you need, please let me know and I'll see what I can dig up. I'm no balthazar, but these are my favorite trucks So, do you think if I flew down you could arrange for me to take this out for a spin? I've never driven a Suburban Carrier pickup before...
  5. Btw, for those that can get to either of these shows, you can see it for yourself and climb the stairs into the driver's cabin too:
  6. Yeah, you, me and Drew saw it at the 2006 AACA Fall Meet in Hershey; I saw it again there in 2009. I agree with hyperv6 that it is a great feeling to climb those stairs up into the cab, park your but in the driver's seat and 'pretend' to drive I did that in '07 and '09, but only sat in the two-person bench seat (behind the driver's seat) in '09. Even that view is amazing! I'd love to go for a ride in the Futurliner before I die (bucketlist item).
  7. Not too shabby for a mega-ton bus with a 302 cubic inch GMC V6 gasoline engine (145 hp/262 lbs torque)
  8. for a very
  9. Do you think they could sell it to me for a cool $1,000??? Because that's my limit right now Awesome 1955 GMC Suburban Carrier pickup truck - I'd just be happy to sit in it! Very low production - if I recall correctly, 300 were built for 1955. That is definitely my holy grail of the truck kingdom. I'll be sure to check out pictures on the site when they are posted, and if you wouldn't mind letting me know via this thread, I'd be appreciative! Thanks for thinking of me, FOG!
  10. Any updates?
  11. Seaside Heights Police now have new 2011 Ford Explorers in use... I know that Explorers were going to be available in the fleet dept for police duty, I didn't know that they were already available though. Saw about three or four of them, this one was parked at a huge fire scene when we got there yesterday: Link to article: http://www.app.com/article/20110807/NJNEWS/308070077&source=rss Link to video: http://www.app.com/VideoNetwork/1098323292001/Seaside-Heights-Restaurant-Fire-8-7-11-
  12. @Turbojett... hell, if one was really into trains I'd say post it here I guess to be fair though the title of this thread should be changed to TRANSPORTATION Holy Grail in that case... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I posted two vehicles that I would absolutely be thrilled to own as my holy grails (I mean, those two vehicles get my blood flowin' when I see them at car shows). However, my ultimate "holy grail", if money were plentiful enough that not only could I purchase one, but be able to maintain it throughout my ownership, it would be this:
  13. My truck Holy Grail: 1955 or 1956 GMC Suburban Carrier Pickup My car Holy Grail: 1957 Oldsmobile 88 hardtop or Fiesta Wagon
  14. Post what your own personal automotive Holy Grail is here; include pictures and a background story if you'd like I would recommend that you post no more than one vehicle per catergory... so that would mean one holy grail car/CUV/Minivan, one holy grail truck/SUV, one holy grail motorcycle, one holy grail airplane, etc. (you get the point )
  15. Some highlights from a local cruise show 8/2 for my town's Police Dept's "National Night Out" event... 1987 Chevy Blazer/Typhoon clone (Sy/Ty turbo V6 under the hood) 1991 Pontiac Firebird V8 (D.A.R.E. car; recently updated & modified) late '90s Chevy S10/converted into Oldsmobile Bravada 1947 Advanced Design Chevrolet COE (Clearly that was my favorite!! ) There was a really nice '89 Dodge Dakota Sport Convertible there that I liked a lot, but for some reason I didn't get any pictures of it.
  16. Welcome back, friend! It's nice to see you posting here again
  17. I'd love to go, but don't have that kind of "fun" cash to spend on a long drive like that. To whomever goes... please take and post a lot of pictures for us here to enjoy
  18. I rather like this color... almost always see El Camino SSes in black with white stripes, so I find it refreshing to see the colors reversed with the black vinyl top. However, I can't help you with the cash... I don't have enough for myself these days
  19. AND that it's based on the Taurus platform too
  20. I am not a 4 cylinder fan... I have two issues with them. Issue #1: the thing I disliked most on my '07 Saturn SKY roadster was the 2.4L 4 cylinder (although it is a great engine regardless)... everyone that looked at my car thought it had a bigger engine in it (i.e. V8). It moved the car, but I never owned a 4 cylinder before (drove plenty though) and was expecting the car to perform better than what it did (I wished it had a V6 to distinguish it more from the Solstice). Issue #2: while doing fire police traffic duty Saturday morning, a new Buick Regal CXL passed me by. As awesome as the car is, the sound it made as it passed by was just BLAH. 4 cylinder exhaust notes are not music to the ears (and ricers with fart can exhausts it's pure torture). I love the sound of a V8 and even most V6 (especially GM vehicles from the late '80s & early '90s <4.3L V6, 2.8L/3.1L V6>). 4 cylinders sound small by nature and don't invoke power. I love the Atlas 4200 I6 in my Envoy and have been happy with the 3500 V6 engine that powered my '04 Malibu LT, '07 AURA XE, and the wife's '08 G6. I foresee myself owning nothing smaller than a 6 cylinder, however a 4 cylinder may always be possible (the wife and I do like the new Verano, and we were impressed with the performance of the Cruze LTZ RS we drove at the Philly Main Street in Motion). However, comparing the 2.4L 4 cylinder versus the 3.0L V6 in the GMC Terrain, the V6 wins out hands down in my opinion.
  21. I'm not sure what you mean - it's the same targa-type roof like in the Corvette. The engineers on the progam told me the roof was 31lbs. Not terrible, but it's probably a two man job to get it stowed in the trunk safely. I'd love to find one, even an auto. From my recollection, you cannot stow the targa top in the back of the Solstice Coupe. The rear hatch/glass is a very narrow opening and the trunk floor was not modified for the coupe (fuel tank/cell was still in the same location as the roadster). If I'm wrong, please someone feel free to correct me.
  22. Congrats Northstar!! It's nice to see more new Camaros around here
  23. The link isn't working for me... anyone else have this problem? Anyone have another link to use? I just tried it. It works just fine. Good thing that that wagon was never released: poorly executed. It works... didn't realize that it was trying to redirect me elsewhere (once I clicked "back" it was fine). The question I have is that I believe the two pictures were taken at two different times... notice in the rear shot that the Chevrolet Cheyenne concept pickup truck is in the picture. I sure hope GM didn't scrap that too I also wonder where that picture was taken, as it seems there's a lot of new and some older GMC Sierra pickups in there too.
