  1. I believe that in the latest Truck Trend issue there was a small news blurb about the rising costs of used pickup truck and SUV prices due to the fact very few were leased 2007-2010, which tends to flood the market with low-mileage used vehicles 2-4 years later. So in that case demand is far higher than supply = higher pre-owned market prices. I would imagine this applies to cars as well.
  2. Pretty cool tagline... "Chevrolet - Building a Better Way to See the U.S.A." GM/Chevrolet should start using this again now with their current renaissance-like product revival.
  3. Nah, it was 3.73, which is the default in that configuration. You can order a higher gear, like 3.23, but that truck was off the lot. Thanks uncle davey, I am itching for another road trip, but I don't know where to yet. Well, the AACA Eastern Fall Meet is this week... Saturday is suppose to be warm and sunny

  5. ocnblu, let me state on the flip side of the coin, not all body shops are great to work with either. Take my '96 Fleetwood, for example. The body shop I took it to for repairs told me up and down there would be no problem getting the car fixed in two days after it was hit when parked Dec 22, 2009 (right after an unexpected early Christmas heavy snowstorm). The first issue I had with them was they took an extra day (all parts were ordered in advance - so they said - and no surprises were found requiring additional parts location). Why an issue? They saw a cash cow due to the volume of accidents from the snowstorm and overbooked way too many repairs (my car was taken into the shop two weeks after the accident). Issue #2 was that they never gave the car any quality control, again due to the volume of cars they had to repair. The front chrome bumper was misaligned, the left front cornering light (brand new) was never checked to make sure it lit up, and the new headlight was aimed way too high. For a repair shop that had plenty of "awards and trophies" on display, I didn't feel I got the "friendly and professional" customer service they advertised! But on topic, I agree that people treat their vehciles like an extension of their garage (for those that do not use them to store their vehicles in) or their basement - in addition to a landfill. I always remark to my wife after sitting in someone's dirty/filthy car that these are the people that will complain about the trade-in value they're offered when trying to buy a new vehicle after ignoring their own cleanliness for years.
  6. To be honest, I totally fell in love with this 2011 GMC Canyon SLT Crew Cab Off-Road (Z71) 4WD in Merlot Jewel Metallic back at my local dealer around the beginning of the year: My biggest disappointment with it, other than the plain-looking interior, was the fact the rear seat area wasn't as comfortable as I'd like it to be (an infant car seat and a child's booster seat took up the entire seat and were too close to the back of the front seats [can't stand being kicked in the back ]). Hopefully the replacement Canyon (if the GMC version comes out, and if the Colorado is even sold here in the States) will have more legroom in the rear of the crew cab model. It's a shame that beautiful red color is gone for 2012
  7. Well, since I'm finally making this a two-day event, my plan is to spend Friday walking the fields full of vendors, and spending Saturday looking at the car corral (vehicles for sale) and the car show. I'll have the 6 year-old in tow, but would gladly meet up with any C&G members to cruise through the car show portion on Saturday. Also planning to hit up the AACA Museum Saturday too, before heading back home (usually too tired from walking the entire show in one day).
  8. So, anyone else going? You can drive a Camaro, assuming you find Oldsmoboi in the crowd
  9. Totally awesome! On a slightly similar note, the "Imperial March" by John Williams is my ring tone for my cell... my cube-mates march by my cube when it rings, as they think they're being funny

  11. for a very newsworthy Mudmonster!!
  12. Attended the monthly county fire police association meeting last night, held at a different fire station each month. Presidential Lakes Fire Dept in Pemberton, NJ was the location of last night's meeting and the chief there mentioned the old Dodge fire truck in the garage (in which you had to go around it to get to the bathrooms). Don't know the year, but snapped this picture: Definitely a "work-in-progress", but judging from the dust on the hood it hasn't been touched in a long time. The wall going to the bathrooms had pictures of past trucks in service, one was a '58 Dodge Power Wagon, among some other cool antiques long gone.

  14. Oh, this truck has definitely got my interest, preferably a GMC version. A crew cab that can comfortably haul my family (the wife and my two little ones, the older one has his own car now ), or a regular cab 4WD could be a nice "toy" for my personal use. Though I crave a full-size Sierra, an appropriate styled GMC Canyon replacement could easily suite my needs (I still drool at '04-'09 Canyon regular cab, off-road packaged [aka Z71] 4WDs seen on the road).
  15. Well, that depends on how you look at it. New body styling with further differentiation between the Sierra and the Silverado, new models (i.e. Sierra All Terrain HD Concept), and new interiors would do wonders for GM's full-size trucks. The chasis and drivetrains are near perfect, though an upgrade to the 5.3L V8 would be nice (maybe bumped up to 5.5L) and the addition of the 4.5L V8 diesel engine for the 1500. A new body with a new interior could really spur sales of the full-sizers, especially since they've been on market for 5 years now (debuted late 2006 as 2007 models). However, I believe that's the plan, with this becoming a reality as 2014 models in 2013.
  16. I may be going for two days this year (Friday & Saturday)... does that mean I have two chances to drive?
  17. So, who's going???
  18. I hope this announcement will occur soon... patience is one of my many virtues, but damn! why does GM have to test it so many times?!?!
  19. With regards to 4WD/AWD SUVs, crossovers and pickups, I've noted in my experiences that people that own these vehicles think that: (1) they're invincible to weather conditions because their vehicle offers more driving wheels and need not adjust their speed or driving style, (2) rarely check the condition and/or air pressure of their tires (old & worn tires, even on a 4WD/AWD vehicle are no better than a RWD/FWD with new or new-ish tires) which tends to cause traction problems, and (3) have never learned to properly drive in unfavorable weather conditions with any kind of vehicle, let alone a FWD/RWD/AWD/4WD vehicle.

  22. Walden Schmidt - Ashton Kutcher's character - on last night's episode of "Two and a Half Men" drove/owns a silver Fisker Karma. I still think these are pretty cool cars!
  23. Back in 2005, and even now, this is the truck I would have killed for (especially since the sportside bed option was discontinued in 2004): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GMC-SLE-low-miled-short-box-5-3-V8-locking-differential-and-4-wheel-drive-/290612783347?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item43a9df28f3 I would have choosen either the dark blue metallic, stealth gray, or dark steel metallic exterior colors instead of black. Too bad this particular one wasn't closer to my home though...
