Yeah, check its age... the REALLY old units... maybe before 1986 didn't clean too well, so older housemakers still don't trust even never units too much. My mother virtually washes the dishes by hand THEN puts them in the dishwasher. Ugh. The Dishwasher is one of the few machines I haven't taken apart myself, so I'm speculating a bit here... first, I'm thinking that there is some sort of recirculation pump in the design... perhaps as that wears, the soapy water pressure is reduced. I also would check the house water pressure... if its low, the unit might not be getting enough water or might effect the rinse effectiveness. I've noticed in a lot of houses, the water supply is piggybacked onto the kitchen sink plumbing and is an afterthought, rather than coming off a larger supply line.

That list is comparing the early G1 to the MyTouch... most of those issues have been taken care of, and rooting the phone really is the only way to go to unlock the features. As for the virtual/physical keyboard issue, I go both ways... I have the Storm and the G1... I just maintain that the current G1/MyTouch screen is too small for the virtual keyboard... too little space is left over when it comes up... the Storm suffers from this, as well, but to a lesser degree. Of course, Google anything trumps Apple's IPhone.

The subject line sounds like something your kitchen psychiatrist would ask you. I'm not sure what you mean by coming out of sync... especially if it has push buttons instead of a dial-time timer setup. Personally, I would try fixing it... you have nothing to lose by opening it up a little and seeing how it ticks. Especially if there is a color issue with the replacement, as that tends to start a domino effect that only ends with all the appliances changed. Plus, as Camino noted, the older appliances were built better. Most appliances are REALLY simple. Additionally, a lot of them use common parts, so a local appliance parts store can help you find what you may need. I also peruse PartsSelect.com, which has a mountain of exploded diagrams showing the parts and how they go together. If you fail to fix it, then get a new one. Oh, BTW, don't be too drawn in by the whole argument of the newer one being more efficient. It will be, that's no argument, but most of the Energy Guide numbers are total BS. Sure, it might be energy efficient enough to get a rebate, but the real world usage will be more in line with the old unit. I bought an Energy Guide super efficient AC to replace a unit last year. Electric didn't go down... after finding out how the Energy Guide rating is determined, I set up the unit to be as efficient as possible... but then the unit functions better turned off! It didn't come close to cooling the room, let alone the house! (15K BTU). So, its just a load of government free cheese for the appliance manufacturers.

Not anymore so than a tractor trailer while deadheading... obviously taillights are an issue. I imagine its would be perfectly legal to have just taillights, license plate, a mansfield bar/bumper and either mud flaps or fenders.

I don't find the MyTouch to be compelling to upgrade... Its mostly like the G1, but without the physical keyboard... I like the physical keyboard. IMHO, the MyTouch needs a bigger screen if its going to double as a touch keyboard. Otherwise, I'd like the MyTouch a lot better if it had a slide out keyboard... in other words, a streamlined G1.

I haven't had glitches with either Storm (mine or my mothers) that couldn't be explained by user error. My mother is good at user error... plus the sales person mixed our phone numbers up during the upgrade, which was a PITA. It not that big compared to the G1 or enV phones. Hey, you want a big screen, you need a big phone. Only the IPhone has a comparable screen size to volume ratio. enVs are nice, but I could not get over the odd keyboard layout. I also felt the screens were smaller than they could be. My sister is the enV fan in the family... after using my mother's Storm on a regular basis, she is likely to upgrade to a Storm.

I like the Storm... so does my mother and sister. I have the Storm as my personal cell phone, through Verizon. IMHO, most Verizon phone are awful. The Blackberry Tour is nice, as its faster than the Storm, but with the traditional keyboard and smaller screen... I expect a new Storm with a faster CPU will be forthcoming. Yes, Verizon nickel and dimes you... and that seems to have translated into less free apps on the BB App store, which was really disappointing. Their 3G is pretty good... but overall coverage is the best. Bonus: Storm comes with 8 Gig memory card. I also have a Google G1 on T-mobile as my business phone. Awesome phone... plenty of free apps, easy to code for and easy to hack. Love it. Touch screen is more accurate than the Storm, but I kinda miss the feedback click the Storm does. Also the web browser is multisession, so you can actually have 8 web browser windows open at once... I simulate the same thing on the BB by installing Opera Mini as my "second window". T-mobile, whom I have never cared for much, was the provider I had at my last job, and T-mob has impressed me over the last few years... and since I kept the number and G1 was a T-mob exclusive, I stuck with it. 3G is spotty outside of the big cities. Other pet peeve... Weather Channel app is very slow (not G1 standard), but at least there is a good weather app for the G1... the Storms weather apps are lacking. The G1 also can become a wireless access point, allowing you to share the broadband. Finally, I also have a Sierra Wireless 3G USB Broadband device. I stick with Sprint for this, as it is unlimited, whereas VZ and T-mob tend to clamp down on serious overuse. Fast enough to not need broadband at any of my homes. My 2 years recently came up, and I'm tempted to upgrade to a 4G device with a built in Wifi access point, but we'll see. Sprint's network has also been suprisingly good... even in the sticks. They have a sweet antenna webpage that shows coverage very granularly. ATT is my least favorite provider. Sure, they have the IPhone, but I just don't care for the IPhone. Sure the IPhone can do everything the G1 does, but I prefer the open flavor of the G1. Also, the IPhone is just not great enough to put up with the worst cellular network outside the third world. I've heard lots of good things about the Palm Pre, but I forget which networks it is on. I also fear that Palm has been out of the loop long enough that a comeback to relevance is unlikely.

OcnBlu is probably right... the Sunfire/Cavaliers were "sealed", as well. No dipstick... just a unmarked filler cap, and vague guidelines on how much to put in. In other words, GM feels if your low on fluid, you need a GM certified mechanic to diagnose the situation. GM also likely feels that if the fluid is dirty, its time for a brand new Cobalt. ;-) Oh, as for winter guidelines... damn, I'm still working on spring cleaning! Oh, yeah, I have to let the radiator water out of my Blazer, so it doesn't freeze.

Whats wrong with the LT1? Its a nice upgrade over previous small blocks. Sure, its no LS{1,2,3}, but then the LS series will seem lame when the next generation of cold fusion small blocks come out featuring 60mpg and 900 hp.

Your welcome... I just hope it helps, as insomnia is such a frustrating experience. Oh, one other thought... since it has a fairly light effect... its not going to knock you out cold, like Nyquil, the "I-took-it-and-woke-up-on-the-kitchen-floor-medicine", I recommend not fighting it. In my experience (and granted, yours may vary), I can fight it... say I take it and I find something REALLY interesting on TV... but then the body seems to get used to the Melatonin level and the sleepiness will go away after a while... say three hours after taking it, give or take. Then I will have a rough night of insomnia. I've done that too many times to count... whoops.

Well, I hit my peak of sleep deprivation in my college years, and I wish I hadn't. At one point I went six days with only about 2 hours of nap (4 days of cramming/exams then 2 days to pack up and move out), and it hit me bad. Hallucinations, weird behavior, inability to function... after it was over with I slept for three days straight... my sleep patterns never returned fully to normal after that. Later, reading about people who set records for sleep deprivation, I found that some of them suffered from permanent effects, and I wonder if my stunts didn't help bring on the following three-ish years of heavy depression and bizarre sleep patterns. Looking back on that period of my life, I'm shocked my friends didn't think I was hiding a huge drug problem or something.
-
Well, like I said, it takes some work. Problem is, that as you get older, the sleep problems get worse, so its best to get into certain habits sooner, not later. I try to go to sleep the same time each night, regardless if its a "work" night or not... I know that shifting my sleep is going to hurt worse later. As far as getting sidetracked into staying up late, I usually have a list of things I'm researching or whatnot... I keep a list by the computer, since that information will be there tomorrow... if its getting to late, I jot down what I was doing so I can pick it up the next day... and I'll budget more time for that. Don't get me wrong... I still seriously screw my schedule... but I've gotten better at repairing it. Good luck. Edit: Melatonin is still OTC and fairly cheap and non-habit forming. I would still suggest getting a bottle and trying it as it works differently on different people. I've been using Naturol 5mg... but 3mg is also available.

For all of this talk, I'm surprised nobody has advised DF to get some Melatonin. I've been a nightowl for years... plus I have sleep apnea, so I typically would work until exhaustion then would sleep for 14 hours. Even after getting used to a CPAP, and cutting my sleep down to 9 hours, I still had a lot of trouble initially falling asleep. Its very difficult to turn the brain off... Melatonin is the sleep drug the brain uses to shut off the the brain and make one tired... If I take a 5mg pill, it will usually make me groggy in about an hour... I try to take the Melatonin the same time every night. Sometimes it takes a couple of days for it to build up in the body, so one cannot expect miracles the first time you try it. And bigger doses are not always best, so I need to skip a night every 7-8 days, otherwise it I get too much. Other tips include not doing lots of exercise in the last few hours before sleeping, or drinking a bunch of caffeine or using the computer during that hour. I've gotten a pretty good grip on my sleeping habits, but it still takes some effort.

I think they are trying to avoid just using odometer readings, as one cannot be certain those miles are racked up in a particular state or in someone's (large) backyard.

And if you check out the models purchased via C4C in another thread... Acadia AWD 2007 1 2008 15 2009 616 2010 172 Acadia FWD 2007 2 2008 6 2009 1,099 2010 283 The government destroyed 3 2007 Acadias to sell 3 2007 Acadias. Double WTF!

Ever wonder what a Charger front end would look like on a Magnum?
SAmadei replied to Intrepidation's topic in Chrysler
I like it a lot. I always liked the nose of the Charger, but hate how the rest of the car doesn't match. With properly matching details, the Magnum should have been more like this, I feel it would have been more popular (Even though it is a farce of a wagon). I have a theory building in my head that familiarity breeds favor. In 1957, the Ford outsold Chevy... its hard to believe that what many considered the most beautiful car ever made would not be the top seller... my theory is that it wasn't that beautiful to the 1957 eye... it grew on people once it had hit critical mass... of course, in those years of single year design refreshes, it didn't translate into sales. IMHO, this is why its important to have wagons or any other body style readily adapted to the popular sedan... once the sedan hits critical mass, its success feeds into the other bodystyles. IMHO, its the nose that made the Charger so popular... and it would have made the Magnum much more so. -
I wonder where web surfing while driving ranks... nothing more ironic than like using platewire.com behind the wheel.

Number plate recognition police cars deployed in SA
SAmadei replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Industry News
Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I believed they worked... only that thats why they are selling them and that the legislators feel its creditable enough to outlaw. Yeah, though covers, the spray on blockers and the pheromones for sale in the back of auto magazines are all snake oil. Some people put them on to keep their plate clean... yeah... then the UV turns them translucent... its a wonder they don't get pulled over. -
You can be in only one property at a time. Unless they are contiguous, you need to to be driven over roads... private airfields on each property are unlikely. Are you a complete hermit, living off the land? If you need external supplies... they come over those roads. If your renting them out, your paying for road usage for your tenants... pass on the cost. So then you would be against trash collection and schools taking unfairly from you, as well. Not only that, but you are paying for the luxury of knowing that they are there... IF you need them. Just like FEMA or the armed forces... I'm paying for it, but haven't benefited from either. No disaster in my neighborhood or invasion (or even PLANS of invasion) in decades. But I pay for it the same because, in theory, they are there if needed. My taxes are paying for parks and greenspace that I never use... No system is perfect.

Number plate recognition police cars deployed in SA
SAmadei replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Industry News
Its sort of a Fresnel lens... they are exactly made for defeating speed and red light cameras. In many states its illegal to put ANY covering, clear or not, over the actual numbers... some states are cracking down on plate surrounds, as well. -
Its funny, as I would nominate the Chevette and the first gen Hyundai Excel as the worst interiors... but not due to cheapness, but space. Both cars were absolute nightmares to drive... knees crammed up against the dash and console... worse, the Hyundai was stick... so I had to keep moving my left knee all about in a convoluted motion... I tried not to shift much. After a 7 hour drive in the Excel, I stretched something in my right knee, and ~15 years later, it still occationally bothers me. In the Chevettes, I found the cardboard covered in vinyl and bare painted metal acceptable... the same as some '50s and '60s cars... never drove one without a glovebox door... at least the hard plastic was pretty tough. The plastic in the Hyundai was very flexible and everything felt like it was about to break... but alot of modern cars feel like that, as well.

This has been a issue that has been on my mind for a long time, and as Cspec noted, tracking mileage via GPS is an informational nightmare. Your example of the Volt demonstrates that the gas tax, is broken as well, and the Volt is the least significant issue... how about people making biodiesel, woodgas or driving homebuilt electric cars... sure they are in the minority now, but are growing and some states have already crucified these pioneering greenies as tax scufflaws. Sometimes, you just have to tax certain items flatly. I think Camino suggested making these items part of the state's budget... then it comes out of everyone's pockets equally in your income or property taxes (in theory, as we know all about loopholes and other BS). The bottom line is that we all benefit from this infrastructure, even if you don't drive at all... your consumables get to stores, your bus takes you to the mall, your kids get shuttled to school, your trash gets picked up... all on roads. If you waste all this effort to build a big brother system to track mileage, how long before you have to pay higher taxes if your child does well at school or you have the garbage men weighing (or worse, sampling) your trash. "Oh, Mr. Smith, we found cigarette butts in your trash, afriad we are going to have to raise your health care tax." OTOH, I would not be opposed to seeing a small scale GPS mileage tracker system imposed for large commercial traffic, as that would be a fraction of the informational nightmare and its the big trucks do the most road wear, anyway. Plus its not really a big brother issue since they already are required to maintain logs.

I'm sure some HERF could fix the problem. ;-) -
They won't. If government put the money towards worthwhile needs, they'd only need a fraction of it. Message to FL... to cover your shortfall, get rid of the corruption and greed in your political system. FL is a BIG state... implementing reasonably convenient public transportation would be obscene costly, and in the end, it would go bankrupt. Who cares, the politicians will mortgage it on your grandchildren's backs and they'll only steal half the money. People point to Europe and Japan's fantastic public transportation, but they have WAY higher population density. Even in our (supposed) gleaming example of public transportation in NYC is slow, obsolete, expensive and virtually bankrupt unless they raise the rates... AGAIN. I know where you're coming from. The pundits want you to either move to a neighborhood near work which might be undesirable or expensive, or get a lousy job nearby. Of course, this does have the plus that the roads would be used less, as the poor lose their cars and homes and are forced into work camps, where they can work off their debit from the hovel right next to the Soylent Green factory. Some days, I'd do anything to chase my fellow drivers off the road... usually I advocate having a big red button on your dash that makes the car in front of you magically vaporize. ;-)

This might explain a bit... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Coach_Corporation Looks like they are kinda newish. There is a picture in there that looks like the same bus that was posted... Thread hijack ended? ;-)
