This situation doesn't usually happen to me. I have a N+1 setup with family versus family cars. Personally, if you liked the Fiesta, get another... but I'm not sure how your situation is going to pan out, as far as insurance and stuff is concerned. Reading your other thread, it sounds like you needed something that accelerates and handles a bit quicker. ;-)

Found on eBay: Because Crumple Zones are for Sissies.
SAmadei replied to wildmanjoe's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
If you are talking about this... ...its actually a totally different animal. This is a Peel P50. For starters, the Peel P50 didn't have reverse. -
Practice. Seriously, because the original fenders should have better matching paint. It all depends on how awful the dents are.

28 MPH Really? They must be sandbagging it... it looked like it was going faster than that in the video. My father's '68 Kurbmaster had a 235 6cyl and when fully loaded (probably about 4 tons), it was slow, but not THAT slow.

That sentence is so awkward, I can't understand what your point is. The blame is on the 7 year old? What I wrote: I wrote nothing about Daddy driving or signing a waiver. I wrote about a 7 year old who can afford, bought and is driving a Pagani ON HIS OWN. Its called hyperbole. That said, unless the child is a legally emancipated it would be the fathers' responsibility for his safety in any case. Its "SICK" that I expect parents to be educated enough to keep their children safe and take responsibility. OMG, I have the "sickness" of responsibility... I am doomed. Anyway, it ain't the car manufacturer or government's job to ensure your offspring survive. Remember, your friendly government will willingly take your offspring, hand them a weapon and throw them in front of an enemy tank to defend a foreign land. Pagani isn't doing that. Also, remember, that its likely Pagani's opinion that passive restrains, like air bags, are completely unnecessary... Racecars DON'T have airbags... they have very effective seatbelts. Had the government not forced air bags on the unsuspecting, unbelted public, we wouldn't have air bags that inflate with such force that they rip the heads off of children and short women. Its the government that put a MUNITION in your steering wheel... and now penalizes Pagani for installing bombs that "only" meet 2010 standards. They will... and I doubt those 5 cars will ever kill anybody. There is something about a 7 figure car that causes even the richest people on earth to drive them judiciously. Who cares? I do. And apparently a few others do. If you want the government to wrap you in bubble wrap, wipe your ass, and only let you out of your cage when its "safe", then that's fine, but some of us want to opt out of that... and we don't want to pay for your bubble wrap, keepers or diapers, either. Personally, I think everyone willing to trade freedom for a little security will eventually be turned into batteries for the Matrix... or Soylent Green.

Are you seriously suggesting this is about trying to blatantly break the law?!? The waivers are there for a reason. Some vehicles should NOT need to follow the FMVSS. Pagani is talking about bringing 5 cars to this country. Engineering an airbag system for their particular car that is passenger weight sensitive is not a trivial task. Its not like they are running "cheap old technology"... its a case where they need to completely revamp the system for a minor feature... and Zonda is going to build 40 a year. Lets say its a $5 mil project... thats adding $128K to each car. And why? The Pagani is a frigging RACECAR... With few exceptions, its probably the safest place to be while crashing at 140 mph... completely unlike some 2011 minivan with 22 airbags that actually meet the NHTSA requirements. Having the NHTSA dictate safety to Pagani is like Google taking server farm design suggestions from the Amish. And why suddenly be so safety anal to Pagani? For crying out loud the rental companies are not required to get the recall items fixed on the cars they rent and sell. Thats where the safety problem is in 2011. Personally, I'm tired of the NHTSA and their insane FMVSS. In my opinion, its just our way of locking small, new companies and foreign companies out of our automotive market... and we can still claim to have "free trade". The FMVSS should set some sane minimum requirements... let independent testing organizations, such as IIHS do testing and report on whats safe. Then let the consumer decide. If I'm 7 and can afford a Pagani, I should be smart enough to know that the airbags are going to kill me if I wreck it. OTOH, if the FMVSS is so much about safety... Why on earth are motorcycles and convertibles still legal? Why are cars still allowed to go over 25mph? So what does the NHTSA ruling change? Nothing. Some rich folks will import them without engines and register than as kit cars or something. All the NHTSA funds wasted on this... out the window. Next year the Pagani will be here legally, and slightly more expensively and the NHTSA will claim victory and will start working on new requirements that are total overkill. Personally, I'd rather the NHTSA use their funds on prostitutes than use their money to interfere with my purchasing options. Yeah, I might not be in the market for a Pagani... but I would be in the market for a Holden Ute.

What was the trap speed? That would have given my Iron Duke powered AMC Eagle a run for its money when I first bought it (on 3.5 cylinders). 0-60 56 seconds...

GM is out of the medium duty truck market... they aren't building anything bigger than 3500s now, right? Its a shame, I really liked the Kodiak and Topkick.

I wouldn't call it useless, but its wasn't as useful as it sounds, either. The lighting pattern the fog lights were putting out were much straight ahead. If you need the small amount of light that actually made it to the corner, you need to check your coke bottle lenses or stop driving at night. There is already way too much bright light out there that out night vision is compromised nearly all the time... and its nothing but an ever escalating war of lumens.

You got a magic one. No, not really. Similar results are being reported all over. How hard to convert a Volt to CNG? We have a CNG station that opened nearby recently...

Yeah, I remember that feature. Didn't like it that much, though.

Cadillac is a big tease on their New Small Car - ATS teaser shot
SAmadei replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
I live in an area powered by tourism. People drive from all around to vacation here. Even Quebec and Ontario... We normally get a pretty standard cross-section of cars. Unless the 3 series, C-class and A4 are not suitable for vacationing... but we get lots of other quasi-impractical cars... Kappas, Vettes, Lotuses, Lambos... -
So I'm parked at night unloading a van, 4 ways on, doors open... and a stupid ass in a BMW SUV drives up behind me trying to make the right turn. I see his turn signal on... and that he has one fog light out. After lots of waving, they finally get a clue and and put the other turn signal on... drive around... I notice the fog light goes out and the other fog light comes on. Finally in front of me, I see the fog light has switched sides again to follow the turn signal. Kind of interesting. Not sure it was that useful, but interesting. Is this a new feature in the BMW X-series? Any other cars have this feature?

Cadillac is a big tease on their New Small Car - ATS teaser shot
SAmadei replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
I never seem to see many of them, aside from 3 series. Perhaps they just aren't that popular in South Jersey towards the shore. I guess when I drive, I must filter them out as speedbumps. See lots of larger Audis and Mercs. -
I snapped these at a car show earlier this year... Absolutely GORGEOUS car! You guys know this one is for sale: http://home.comcast.net/~hwdbry/57Olds/page_01.htm

SAmadei replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
but that's the market that Cadillac is lacking in and needs to be in to compete well. What is the sedan/coupe split on the 3 series? I seem to see more coupes than sedans. This ATS is not a coupe, yet. Edit: Also, I am not convinced that there is huge marketplace for a sub-CTS car. -

It looks pretty much like what I've expected so far... A CTS put through a funhouse mirror or a Photoshop stretch and shrink. Unfortunately, looking at the size of the wheels and comparing it to the door outlines, I find its size to be a detriment... but if you want a tiny 3 series sedan, I guess it could be desirable. -
I don't think that's fair. Sometimes you have to zig when everyone else zags, and VW is reaping rewards from this. Every company is trying to drive their small cars upward and with the way the economy is, we need some cars to have downmarket options. We need a true Beetle, a Hyundai Excel, a Dodge Shadow America.

Honda Civic No Longer Recommended by Consumer Reports
SAmadei replied to Cory Wolfe's topic in Honda
As much as I'd like to blame conspiracy there and bribes, its these cars' history of reliability and resale value. It takes a while for these items to change... probably 3-5 years minimum, perhaps a decade for resale value. In a way, this is why Toyota and Honda haven't been seen the worst of their problems yet... they are still relying on attributes from cars built half a decade ago and more. Hopefully this is just the start of karma catching up. -
I actually have only been carded (for age) once... a few years ago at a restaurant with a 'card everybody' policy... my mother, in her 60s also got carded, so it doesn't really count. I remember once I had a couple roommates younger than me... and a roommate MUCH older than me... like 25. At the time I was still a year from being legal. So we all put our orders in and send our old roommate in... but he gets carded (cause he looked 17) and had left his ID at home. I go in, and bought the same stuff and the clerk didn't card me at all. Whoops. Now its insane who they card for cigarettes. But I don't smoke (or buy). Well, if you spend the average 2 years at a job, with 200-400 associates and change jobs a few times, the requests add up in a jiffy. And that's not including vendors and stuff. Yeah, seriously. I'm trying to keep my FB number as low as possible and still function. The more "friends" you have, the more worthless FB spam you have.

Actually, I kind of like it. Nose needs some shortening. Of course, being its white, its hard to tell how well its done. Looks better than yesterday's Solstice tragedy. But the Solstice could be fixed easier.

Well, turning gray is not a totally bad thing... many grey folks are still quite youthful in appearance. I got my first grey when I was about 10, but its a congenital patch... I forget the medical term for it. Several of my friends also have them, but much more obvious than mine. The grey is really started two years ago... but it ready started pouring it on this year. Interesting. Went through a similar thing with a friend of over 25 years. Different reason, though. Nice. I've got quite a bit of longevity on both sides of the family, many on the material side lived well into their 90s, even back in the 1800s... but it seems the males in my father's side of the family are cursed in their 50s. I'm not so confidant I'll shake that.

Probably for the best, Ocn... it took almost all month to figure out last month's cuteness. ;-)

Not wrong. I'm kinda fortunate, too, in that I've stayed well preserved, at least externally. But its in the genes. Both my parents also were the same... for me, its like I grew into a 25 year old appearance in high school, and barely moved since. I used to be mistaken for my mother's brother. Keeping the hair is helpful, but now I have to decide if I'm going to fight the specks of gray that are going to finally betray my true age. I disagree that statutes of limitations for high school stuff runs out. People who would throw me under the bus in high school who suddenly want to act like old friends because in the real world friends are hard to come by... no thanks. I think its funny how Neil Young is turning into Jack Palance.

If anyone is serious about any of those cars, PM me. I could probably go take a look/get some detailed photos. I really wish there was a better list of cars. They claim to be 800 left, but the photos are barely showing about 200~300... and a lot look very similar (unless they are moving them around). Its a shame most are sedans and wagons... though some of those wagons are way COOL! Like the '61 FS Olds wagon. I'd almost like to preserve the patina on quite a few of them. Clear coat over rust?!?
