Interstate Battery! LOL!

No notes on the Challenger's disposition? Thats OK... we'll just assume you set it on fire in a parking lot, Breaking Bad-style.

Yeah, fallout is very sensitive to location, weather, topography... but these effects have been studied for years. I'm surprised no one has linked it to Google maps in some way. Of course, its like airborn pollution, so I know in NJ, its all from Pennsy and SW... unfortunately, a lot of potential targets... but I'd still try to GTFO if possible.

Alas, yes... was hoping to snatch one up dirt cheap, but unlike the last gen LaX, this one is retaining its value rather well. Its not just the LaX... with higher gas prices, the extinction of large cars being manufactured and C4C removing a lot of serviceable large cars from the used car pool, decent cars LaX sized and above are hard to find.

Cadillac News: Is There A Smaller Cadillac In Store?
SAmadei replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
At that rate, I'd be renting a truck every other month to bring home (or from one house to another) a couple 4x8 sheets of something. Not cost effective... I might as well give up on DIY. -
To me, 'Ran when parked' only means that the drivetrain is relatively intact and the engine is probably not siezed. Obviously, visual inspection will tell you how tampered with it is. When talking classics, being intact can be worth more than actually running. All those detail pieces, are important to some people, even if they need to be completely replaced, you at least know what you are looking for. Nobody is going to plan a restoration of a car sitting for a decade without expecting major drivetrain disassembly or replacement. (Well, maybe Black-Knight... ;-) Just Kidding!) In WMJ's case, I bet this guy would show you a bare, rusted out frame and claimed 'Ran when parked'. Most terms that involve the seller's opinion are normally way off. "Runs good"... riiiiigggghhhht.

This is both depressing and interesting... I feel better knowing I can survive an average strike on a nearby city, or even 20~30 blocks from a 'suitcase bomb'... but unfortunately, the site tells us nothing about fallout... which is something I worry more about. On more interesting results, its interesting to put in the 100Mt bomb and start adding zeros. At 7 extra zeros (1Pt), the entire Earth is consumed in massive sudden global warming.

I look at this as very dependant on one's skills. If you have the skills to operate these devices and drive safely, do so... but risk police intervention if it works out that you can't maintain a lane, swerve, forget to signal, etc. We already have laws on the books in nearly every state to write tickets for these infractions. If you cannot handle the distraction, pull over at your earliest convenience and adjust your radio station, use your cell phone, play Angry Birds, etc. Everyone shouldn't be penalized and dumbed down to the lowest common denominator.

Cheers or Jeers: 1979 Cutlass Hurst/Olds

'78-'85 was a great time for two-tones. -
Minivan. Liked the old one better.

I probably should have rebuilt mine... but I bought a cheap new one, and it has had several problems that have sidelined me. But I just didn't see a good way to reindex the unit without a lot of special effort. (It was burning out caps due to the Hall effect part being out of wack with the pointer.)

Cadillac News: Is There A Smaller Cadillac In Store?

I completely understand your POV as far as why you wouldn't putter around in a subcompact; to be honest, neither would I for very similar reasons. I was just confused as to how you worded your above post. To me it sounded like you were saying that being able to go 500+ miles on a 42-gallon tank was a good thing. But if that's worth it to you -- the safety of you and yours -- then if you like it, I love it. Well, I share Dfelt's opinion of having some steel around me, but I'd also like to add that going 500+ miles on a 42 gallon tank is not so bad when you consider that the big truck can haul some serious weight and the mileage will not immediately suffer. Put 1500 pounds in a Prius and its economy will plummet... just like how Top Gear demonstrated that a 3 series can be more economical than a Prius if you drive like you're on a racetrack. I don't drive my dumptruck too much because it gets 6-8 mpg, regardless if its full or empty. So I only drive it loaded, which isn't too often. -
Cheers or Jeers: 66,000 Mile 1983 Pontiac Bonneville
SAmadei replied to wildmanjoe's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
Yeah, the '83-'84 Parisenne was pretty meh... but at least GM gave the Pontiac B-bod its old, unique taillights for '85-'86. Personally, I didn't care for the French name... I liked it when GM dropped the Parisenne and the wagon soldiered on simply as the Safari. Simple and to the point. I like 'em either with or without the fake wood. -

Sorry, Olds, B-bod Bonne ended in 1981. I do still like the A-bod Bonne wagons... I just never cared for the sedans. Unfortunately, the sedan doors on the wagons are real tight for me. -
That looks like just west of exit 9B heading westbound on the North-South Freeway, not technically part of the Atlantic City Expressway. ;-) Oddly, I saw my first Equus the other day... BRIGHT white, driving past the WTC site. Was a pretty nice looking car. Unfortunately, the driver was a complete idiot.

Industry News: Gas prices to hit $4 mark this Spring
SAmadei replied to Blake Noble's topic in Industry News
Just build a woodgasifier and start driving around for free. I foresee the gas price spector coming up everytime our economy starts to move in the right direction... and then stumbling... ripples in China/Inda... gas falling slightly... economy ramping up... China/India economy ramping up... gas prices go up... economy stumbling cycle for quite some time, at least until we can uncouple our economy from the problem. I'm not suggesting getting off gasoline, but some other solution. -
Industry News: Fisker Stops Work On Nina, Lays Some Workers Off

Why don't you grab a Volt, then? Otherwise, you are hoping for a technology to supplant a large percentage of the entire automotive fleet. Unfortunately, its not all that viable yet. Buy a Volt, while they are still availble, and don't expect them to be forced onto everybody... I'm not forcing you to buy a gasoline powered V8... stop advocating that the government waste my taxpaying money to try to force others into electrics. -
Cheers or Jeers: 57,000 Mile1966 Dodge Polara 880 wagon
SAmadei replied to wildmanjoe's topic in Auctions and Classifieds
This hits me hard... my Granpa had a '66 Polara (probably a 500)... after a series of short term Dodge Darts... and kept the Polara until 1985~86. Minty green sedan, my grandfather kept it sparkling clean... used to sew/patch up the interior by hand... In fact, I would suppose it was the car I was brought home from the hospital in (I remember my sister was brought home in it years later.) One of my favorite Mopar designs on the '60s. His car didn't have the gigantic speedo, his had the standard dual pod setup. I think just the 880 got the big speedo. Unfortunately, after my grandmother passed, the car had too many memories and he sold it to a neighbor who almost immediately sidewiped it to hell and likely went to the crusher. :-( Grandpa was a diehard Dodge man... so naturally, he replaced it with an Aries K. Ugh. -
Chicago 2012: Nissan NV200 Cargo Van: Comments
SAmadei replied to William Maley's topic in Chicago Auto Show (CAS)
You and Chris should do something more than 'sit in one' to try it out. Put 3 tons of newspapers in it, drive it at 80 mph on the BQE and drop it in a seedy neighborhood before the homeless steal your tires. Personally, I believe the current Econoline is a POS, as well... but at least its easy on the eyes. However, the big NV suffers from a problem I don't like on the Econolines... too long of a hood... its wasted space in a van... especially when parking in the city. I don't care about how soft touch the interior is, but I do care how far forward the load is going to shift when I get railed by a Suburban from behind... something which actually happened recently. I'm sure I'll be testing out a big NV sooner or later when I have to forktruck a server farm from Brooklyn to Newark or back. -
Chicago 2012: 2013 GMC Acadia: Comments
SAmadei replied to William Maley's topic in Chicago Auto Show (CAS)
Well, since the Outlook is out of production, no big deal. Now if the Acacia and Outlook were in production together w/ this body, then a rebadge might be an issue...but the sheeple probably wouldn't notice or care. GM repo'd all the Saturn Outlooks on the road? Otherwise they are going to be parked next to each other at Walmart. -
Chicago 2012: 2013 GMC Acadia: Comments
SAmadei replied to William Maley's topic in Chicago Auto Show (CAS)
I'd rather see GM reuse the G8 body... or the '06 GTO... or the '02 Firebird... or a '69 Camaro. Its amazing the technicalities GM attempts to use to avoid the 'rebadge' label... but its just a rebadge to me. -
Even my diehard Blue Oval friends have been complaining about the overall crapiness of the F150 since about 2002. I have a friend would would dearly like the trade in his 2002 non-Lightning "Lightning", but every new truck has interior, quality and drivetrain issues. Now he's looking for a nice '52-'56 F-100.

That NV is ugly, as well... but not as ugly as the NV200/Taxicab thing. Unless something amazing happens, real vans die with the Econoline/Express.
