  1. It's nice the 3800 is efficient but it's not a competitor for the 4-banger in the Corolla as a high-mileage product. GM needs something competitve in this segment. This is not a place where unfortunately "bigger, better, faster" works.
  2. Sorry but when you get out of grade school and maybe get a couple of years of economics under your belt in college you'll understand why raising the gas tax (and putting the revenue generated from it to good use reducing the deficit) is the right answer. Did you ever notice that gas prices have ALREADY gone up and doomsday hasn't arrived yet? If the government had raised the prices a few years ago by increasing the taxes, the result would have been no different than it is now other than the criminals who run the oil companies wouldn't be getting even more filthy rich than they already are. Can I do better? Somehow I'm sure if I had his money I'd certainly be willing to give it a shot and there are plenty of other candidates out there who would have done a better job. Time will prove me right. Even Donald Trump said it recently (and I'm certainly not a fan of his.)
  3. Ya know.... I'm one of GM's biggest fans... always have been.... and I love the new product they're coming out with - love the '08 CTS... the new Malibu looks great... GMT900's... can't beat 'em... but I *really* have to wonder when they're going to come out with a product that is "high mileage" competitive. It's time to take on ToyMotor where they live and breathe. When I look at the new mileage ratings (and exclude the Prius for the time being) there isn't much there to compete with the likes of the high mileage product ToyMotor sells. GM needs something that beats the Corolla. I don't care how they do it - import it -- build it at home -- or a combination thereof but this is where Toyota got there toehold and they need to be taken out of the game there. I hope they have a plan for this segment. Any comments from the masses?
  4. .... and of course the very mention of the name "Ron Zarrella" makes me want to puke.
  5. I absolutely LOVE these expressions from the column: "and that beast shrieked and howled" and "a truly nasty-beautiful machine in every sense of the word." Those were the days....
  6. The mileage numbers don't seem that impressive. How do they compare with other hybrids in its class?
  7. I wonder if the GTO will be back. The last attempt was a play on the retro craze that was happening. It's played out now. Let's just build quality kick-ass cars in every segment with a clear market in mind. The game-playing is over. I still think the P-B-G concept is worthless too. There will still be too much overlap and confusion on the part of the consumer.
  8. That's why they get 30 in the city.
  9. Pay close attention to who the author is. The author of the bitchfest about the tilt mechanisim is James Riswick. Clearly he's another "associate editor" (translation, "coffee fetcher") who can't think of anything else to write about and CERTAINLY nothing positive about the SRX. I'm sure he read somebody else's comments on tilt wheel and added his two cents. Nothing new or insightful with this guy. After enough time passes, all automobiles will be so homogenized that there won't be anything different about any of them and the only differentiator will be price, so they'll focus on who can build the car cheapest which of course will be eventually won by Hundai/Kia until the Chinese get their stuff over here.
  10. You ARE uninformed if you haven't driven a RWD car with traction control. This is the big differentiator from 20 years ago. Not sure what "Keep it FWD simple" means. FWD automobiles are anything but simple compared to their RWD counterparts. Selling to fleets is only a volume game. They don't make any money so don't help GM's financial situation particular when they make up major percentages of their sales. These sales will fill up factories which is fine when the need to do so is short term. It is not a long term solution to lack of demand.
  11. There is no way Cadillac needs a FWD DTS. They need to dump this platform and roll out a RWD DTS for this large car segment. FWD is dead, dead, dead for this segment.
  12. Speed and quality of the service. This story is old news. Technology marches on. Get over it.
  13. Get your facts straight please (typical whack job glossing over and twisting the facts. Must be the Cheney school of facts.) The "axis of evil" speech was on January 29, 2002 and NK triggered their bomb on October 9, 2006. I'd say that's almost 5 years and not "a few months." I'll take my apology any time. If you actually listen to the news you'll recall just recently the UN weapons inspectors determined NK had indeed NOT been working on a bomb until likely AFTER the speech. How is illegal campaign contributions anyone other than the US government's responsibility? Let's not get started on the Lewinsky affair. Look at the Repubican's own fearless leader just this week admitted to having his own affair while leading the charge against Clinton. There is no honor in politics and Gingrich is a liar. Plain and simple. Mushroom cloud.... there you go again with the fear uncertainty and doubt. Sounds suspiciously like "The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." and "Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof -- the smoking gun -- that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud." Oh yeah those aren't your words they're Bush words. Same technique though. Come back when you learn how to make an argument and can defend it.
  14. He does seemed to have softened his stance on many things. Attribute that to whatever you want. Dealing with foreign policy requires finesse which GWB has none of. The jury is still out on NK as we've been through this routine before however, if you really look at what's happened there, they didn't kick the inspectors out and build a bomb until they were called out as part of the "axis of evil." Personally if I lived in a country that had been labeled in the same way I'd probably do the same thing. I'm not saying it's right or wrong - just human nature and very predictable. Something a president should have ancitipated.
  15. You sound amazingly like a right wing whack job. It's always extremes with them and always with the "fear, uncertainty and doubt." Can't we find some middle ground? You can stick your head in the ground if you want and claim Bush isn't for high taxes and I'll point out very easily he's just dumping his spending on future generations. If we're spending for the war, we should all be feeling the pain instead of just the military. You can argue against socialized healthcare and I'll point out easily the giveaways to the drug companies we provided with Medicare part D. Regulations are implemented in response to criminal behavior. How do you propose we response to criminal behavior? Ignore it? Sheesh.
  16. Uh you left out something. A DUMBASS Oil Man hooked on Defense sits in the white house.
  17. The more I thought about this thread the more annoyed I am about it. Is it me or does anybody else notice it feels like everybody is picking away at the US everywhere you look?
  18. Lott is a criminal - plain and simple. We need congressional term limits. Period.
  19. .... and they should take another $100 billion from those dirtbags now....
  20. It's all a numbers game. I really am uneasy about buying anything just because it's for sale.
  21. The price differential is just more gouging on the part of the gas companies. More competition in the marketplace would drag the price down to match gas.
  22. All trends start somewhere... let's hope this is the start of a trend.
